yes, we are very flexible on this one, as long as it fits within spirit of the " street", that's fine. Only the Main Genre ( street grouping) has to be noted on main book page.

Oops. Just went to check to be sure Taking the Leap is on the non-bios shelf, and there doesn't seem to be such a shelf. Do I just need to verify that "Non-Fiction" is on the list of Top Shelves on the book page (It is.), and that the book is in fact not a bio?
Susan wrote: "Oops. Just went to check to be sure Taking the Leap is on the non-bios shelf, and there doesn't seem to be such a shelf. Do I just need to verify that "Non-Fiction" is on the list of Top Shelves on..."
Agh! I knew there was something I forgot but for the life of me, I couldn't think of what. As we are limited to 2 Non-Fiction 'genre', I only split them between anything biographical and non-biographical. So for 'non-bios', as long as the book is not on 'biography' shelve or anything similar, then it's fine.
So, to answer your question, Susan, Taking the Leap is fine for this square.

I have a question about task #10 for the Community Chest. Since leaving a quote doesn't take very long, and can presumably be about one of the books we've read for that set, how does that affect when we can start planning for the next section (in order to obtain books from the library, etc.)?
Might it be reasonable to say that, when this task is involved, planning for the next set can begin when the last book before the Community Chest is begun, whichever book that happens to be?

I think you're exactly right, Susan. The rules say
When you start your task for Community Chest / Chance, then you may roll again. If your 'task' does not require you to read, you may roll as soon as you've started reading your last book for your last planned set.
I take that to mean when you start reading the book just prior to the Community Chest task.

Cheers!"
My pleasure. I know you've been swamped.
I thought I would just point out that, for people who might land on the graphic novels square who don't really like manga-type books, Stardust by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess is a terrific choice. It's a fairy tale for adults, and it's really a full-length novel that just happens to have beautiful illustrations on every page.

(*) denotes ‘streets’ – Your choice: Do Task & earn points OR Skip Task & be fined points
(#) denotes Non-‘streets’: Be fined points OR you can do task and avoid fine
Most squares will require that you read books from certain "shelves" except for some squares of which tasks are specified.
The 'group' of the streets of which there are 8 (those in colour boxes -the Main Genre, eg. Literature, Young Adult, etc) MUST be noted on list of Top Shelves on book page
For example, World War Z - you can read it for either one of the following 'streets':
-Fantasy > Horror
-Science Fiction > Speculative (Apocalyptic)
-Fantasy > Urban Fantasy (Fantasy listed on book page and urban fantasy on first page of top shelves)
-Fantasy > Epic (Fantasy listed on book page and epic on page 3 of top shelves)
-etc
I have kept the 'streets' to be as generic as possible so you should be able to fit books easily
Do Not let your balance to reach Zero (0) OR you will have to re-start the game from GO
Roll 1 Die and move a number of squares as per your rolls.
You may roll ahead & plan your reads up to the point where you reach Community Chest / Chance ("planned set"). Books may be read in any order BUT... all books must be completed before starting Community Chest / Chance Task.
When you start your task for Community Chest / Chance, then you may roll again. If your 'task' does not require you to read, you may roll as soon as you've started reading your last book for your last planned set.
Challenge open for 4 months (up to 30 November 2013) and whoever completed the challenge at the end of 4 months with highest points "wins"!
Challenge is complete when you return / past "Go" point after cycle/s around the board. You may do more than one cycle and continue to accumulate points.
For example, you have collected 1,000 points and are at "Literature > Contemporary". You rolled '4' which means that you will pass 'Go' and land in 'Non-Fiction > Bio'. Collect 200 points as you pass 'Go' (total of 1,200 points) and proceed with 'Non-Fiction > Bio' task.
GO! You may start reading NOW!
