I also think there needs to be a Shapeshifter Mythology category, since Vampires, Ghosts and Witches have their own- or maybe combine all of these into Mythological Creatures and Cryptids... for example I recently learned of the were-hyena mythology from the middle east and africa... very different from the European and North American werewolf myths.

I had exactly the same thought! :-)
Also, a category for Australian/aboriginal myths. I'm quite interested to read more about those.

I was told by another member of a good site to read about original myths and tales
sacred-texts.com
I haven't checked it out yet, but I wanted to share anyways

You can post stuff about dragons here:

Also, peeked in on the Asian Mythologies...it seems to be focusing on Japanese/Chinese book. Would it be okay to include mythologies from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and surrounding areas? Thanks!

I think Djinns/Jinn/Genies can be included on the mythical creatures thread here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
I've already posted some general info on them and would love for you to add to it or suggest books if you would like
And absolutely I would love to see more myths coming from other regions of Asia

I'm going to put one up right now if you want to post your books to it

A "general" folder has been posted

Thoughts?

Earth goddess – the mother of life.
Huveane - the first man, the conniver
Kaang - the supreme god, the creator
Adu Ogyinae - another first man, leader
Biloko – evil dwarf-like beings
The Zambezi River God- dragon like creature
Kalunga – the underworld of the dead
Anansi – spider god, a trickster
Amazon has quite a few fantasy, sf books based on these myths and Goodreads has a base of readers who seek out these books.

Done :) There is now a folder and discussion threads
I hope you don't mind that I used your description and posted it in the General Info for African Mythology

I hope that you can help finding some books about it though... I can't seem to find any novels based on them, only non-fiction ones!

I , too, would be very interested to see what kind of fiction is out there in this category
