This thread is where you can chat about all things PIFM, ask questions and once books have been read, review your selected reads. A complete free for all.

PLEASE NOTE:

PIFM is meant to be FUN and not to be taken seriously. I would appreciate it if all participants just chilled and not get worked up about voting, who votes, who doesn't, etc. Please bear in mind that some will just want to vote, many don't come on everyday and most of us have time constraints. I just want a relaxed approach to it all and for you all to just enjoy the process! I'd really appreciate your courtesy in this matter. Thanks.

Kirsten (kmcripn) The temperature makes me think it's August already.

message 3: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments HOttest driest start in forever. Maybe August will be unseasonably cold? :)

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Put my August books up.

message 5: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) If unseasonably cold means we'll get under 100F, I'll sign up for that! We've hit a record for the most consecutive triple-digit temps.

Amber Martingale It's been relatively nice this summer, so far, here in Belleville, IL. unlike last year!

One book in the lead on my list. And that's the one about Edward I.

message 7: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Wow! Looks like the race is pretty close.

message 8: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale The book about King Edward I is still in the lead with 3 votes.

Will vote and hopefully put a list this month when I have time

Kirsten (kmcripn) Perri - It must be love. You have to be loyal and true to follow the Cubbies! I am a Mariners fan, so I know something about loyalty.

message 11: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Faouzia - Don't forget to vote!

The Cubbies wouldn't be the Cubbies if they didn't break your heart!

Brenda | 2434 comments Perri, I saw your notes in the other threads. I didn't realize how "twisted" my list was. :-) Funny, but I voted for Afraid for Lynn. And I added it to my TBR.

My husband thinks I'm plotting his demise by reading all these books.

Wow! What a great list. It was difficult to pick just one.

That's funny, Brenda. Sometimes I get on a True Crime kick and my DH worries too. But maybe it's good to keep them on their toes ;)

DH, Perri?

message 19: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1266 comments I'm taking an August break on PIFM. Summer seems to be so busy I am not keeping up my reading speed. Therefore, no lists, no votes but I intend no offense.

Darling Husband:)

My DH thinks you need to mix in some humor and easy reads. He thinks all the serial killer books must affect the brain.

BTW, some great choices this month.

message 21: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 1126 comments I do find that if I read too many thrillers/horrors in succession my thoughts do feel ever so slightly darker as I think about the nutters in the world so I balance things out by reading something lighter and completely different from time to time!

I second what Lisa said, there are some great lists (as usual)!

Hey Christine
Great list this month. I have been dying to read I Let You Go but I didn't think it was available in the US until next year, how did you get your hands on a copy?

message 26: by Perri (last edited Jul 12, 2015 07:32AM) (new)

Perri | -43 comments Christine, Lisa, Sophie, The Din DH can stand for a number of things depending on mood ;) I totally get that too many horror/crime etc. affects my mind. It reminds me of that Nietzsche quote, when you gaze too long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you-yikes!

Pat, totally understand. When it feels like pressure, it's no longer fun! Take a break and come on back when it's right :)

Amber Martingale The book I mentioned before, the one about King Edward I (a.k.a. Longshanks), is STILL in the lead...with SIX votes!

Speaking of King Edward I, here's a video from Epic Rap Battles of History: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl7CL...

message 31: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Dead Wake, The Kind Worth Killing and Shutter Island are the favorites on mine.

HaHaha... I basically did a close the eyes and point a finger to make my list this month. My list is made up of free books, I have this problem trying to ignore BookBuzz and digitalbookstoday.

I've voted for everyone too.

I'll be back for Fall. Nothing significant is really happening in life, but I just feel the need for a step back. My genetic material finds comfort in slowing down! The world moves too quick.

The Twins came back from a 6-1 deficit in the 9th to win 8-6!! And I had turned it off when it was 6-0 in the 4th!

message 39: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie | 120 comments I'll have to check that out, there are so many UK books I end waiting forever to get my hands on! thanks Chris and by extension Pat!

message 40: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1266 comments Stefanie - hope you like them. Sue from Toronto is also ordering through bookdepository. They have done good with me. It takes about 1 week to get the books but from England to South Dakota - a week is good! I have no patience to wait over 1 year for the British mysteries.

LOL. it was one of the videos featured in the YouTube series ELDERS REACT TO... and all but one of the elders voted for either Wallace or Washington while one said it was a tie, just like you did.

Any of you baseball fans hear anything about the Cardinals recently?

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Twins fan here. Sorry you are sick, Aaron.

message 45: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale *giggles* I didn't ask what teams you pledge your allegiance to. I just asked if you'd HEARD anything about the Cardinals. LOL.

message 46: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) You brought up a baseball team ... same thing.

message 47: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale So? I just want to know if anyone heard anything about what/how the Cardinals are doing this season.

Too lazy to look it up in the paper and I keep missing it on the St. Louis NPR affiliate, KWMU.

message 48: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Don't really know... they're in the NL... so, I don't hear much unless they get in trouble.

message 49: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale LOL.

message 50: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1266 comments St. Louis Cardinals are in the lead for central NL. Pittsburgh Pirates (my team) are 2 1/2 games behind them.
