Factual error - Scandinavia
Lars Nilsson Lars Sep 05, 2013 02:19PM
I am still reading the book, but am getting disturbed by one recurring factual error - Finland is referred to as being a Scandinavian country. That is not correct.
Scandinavia consists of Sweden (where I was born), Norway and Denmark.
Scandinavia plus Finland makes up a geographic entity called Fenno-Scandia, a name which is normally not used in day-to day talk. If you also add Iceland, then you have the Nordic countries.

I think Matthews wrote to the common (albeit geo-politically incorrect) understanding. Maybe your frustration is more with the lack of worldly knowledge than the author? I shared with my spouse (who teaches world history to a group of home schoolers) and your comment encouraged research - and now enlightenment! Thank you for the post!
