OK, so the thing that is bothering me so far is how Kate has just adopted Jessica from the get go. I mean, literally the first situation they got into, she was mentally saying "my kid" ... It's the possessive "my" that bothers me. Yes, she should protect her, but it's still creeping me out.

I am also getting really impatient with dragging out what Kate is. Just say already!

About Julie(Jessica??! ) yes she got attached to her too fast but I liked their relationship.

I think it's in book 3 that her whole story is fully revealed, but in this one you get hints and you can tell what's what !

In simple words (view spoiler)[she is Roland's daughter, he is the most powerful necromancer, kind of their king.and a bad guy. She has his blood so she has powerful magic and her blood is very strong and has its own magic and she necromancy powers. That's why she Burns her blood so nobody can find out who her father is. Like Rebecca, I was really annoyed at the teasing hints about Kate's lineage. I was worried it would last the whole series, so I'm glad to know we get some more info in the next book. A little mystery is fine, but I hate getting strung along.
