Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Shall we shebang again as we did in days of yore?

I'll host.

Let's leave the theme open. But please feel free to announce or describe your theme when you sign up, as it can be a big help to others trying to formulate ideas. (I'll be doing The Sounds of Youth.)

Update:

The announced deadline to join this shebang has now passed, so signup is officially closed...although anyone with an excuse/plea for entry strong enough to sway the confirmed participants can probably still be added late.

The deadline for mailing shebangs to me is tentatively Oct. 31--trick or treat!

As it stands we are a group of 8, meaning that each participant should burn 7 copies of his or her shebang and snail mail them to me with a self-addressed return envelope and enough postage to get the package containing everybody's shebangs back to you (meaning roughly the same amount of postage required to send your shebangs to me).

Those of you residing abroad can just send sufficient US currency to cover the purchase of return postage, and again just figure it to be roughly the same amount in dollars as you're spending in your own currency to ship the shebangs to me.

I'll PM my address info to each of you shortly...

Confirmed participants:

Jonathan
Emily
Smetchie
Aussie Junior Gail
Barb
Janine
Heidi
Misha

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments No worries, Misha. If you can do it, that would be grand, but I realize you've got a lot going on right now, what with the new job and the still recent move. See how it goes, and if you can fit a shebang into your fall schedule, all the better.

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments I am definitely in :)

smetchie | 4034 comments Yes!!! Me!!!! Pick me!!

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Hooray!

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Not me, but my daughter had requested could she participate in the next shebang. So she is in if that is okay?

message 8: by Jonathan (last edited Sep 20, 2013 03:41AM) (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Of course, Gail. That would be great. What is your daughter's Goodreads name so I can add her to the list? Or shall we just communicate with her through you if she's not on GR?

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

She isn't on goodreads at the moment. I'll check with her as to what she would like to do. Thanks.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm not familiar with this thread. Could someone tell me what a She Bang entails?

Good morning to everyone!

message 11: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Hello Aaron, a while back Barb put together a terrific FAQ page giving all the information one could possibly want regarding shebangs:

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

It is Friday evening here Aaron. Good morning to you.

message 13: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments Interesting twist Gail ;) What shall we call Gail Junior for shebang conversations?

message 14: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I'm in! Thanks for the heads up, Jonathan, and for organizing this shebang.

message 15: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I'm considering doing a Murder and Mayhem shebang. I haven't used iTunes for a while, but when I turned it on today I discovered a playlist of Murder and Mayhem-ish songs I'd made after listening to Smetchie's Murder and Mayhem shebang. I did sounds of youth as a bonus with the literary shebang.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

@Jonathan

Thanks. That clears things up.

@Gail
It's Friday morning here, Gail. Enjoy your evening.

message 17: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I don't have time :(

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

My kingdom for a seltzer.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

Stomach pains. Good title for a song, too. I must begin with some lyrics.

Plop, plop fizz fizz, oh what a relief it is. Or:

A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants.

Good, huh?

message 20: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments I'm thinking I will do sounds of (an angsty) youth too, there is also a holiday playlist I've been wanting to whip out but any excuse for the Violent Femmes!

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Great. We'll collaborate.

message 22: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Barb! Janine! Great that you can join the shebang!

Sarah, so sorry to hear that you're too busy for this round. Hope you're working on interesting things.

Misha, I'm not sure exactly what the mailing deadline should be...I guess I was figuring on maybe around Halloween--does that work for you?

Aaron, are you in?

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Not sure yet, Jonathan. Will let you know.

JOY!

message 25: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments hmmmm. Here I am the one always lobbying for shared-theme shebangs...but I can't do Sounds of Youth. No. I want to thoroughly un-remember the sounds of my youth.

I'm already working on a shebang and the theme is "Home" so I'll probably just do that.

message 26: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments (there isn't any Phillip Phillips on it)

message 27: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments Sorry for the multiple posts. I can't help myself when I've been away....

message 28: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments I wish I could do this one. Unfortunately, I don't even currently have my computer set up.

::SIGH::

message 29: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Boo to bad computer situations!

message 30: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Whaaaaaaat?!

Man.

message 31: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Yay, Heidi! Yay, Misha!

Susan, do you really have no possibility of getting access to a CD burner in the near future? It would be so delightful to have you aboard...

message 32: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Misha wrote: "Oooh, maybe I'll make mine the soundtrack for the NaNoWriMo project I'll be writing in November and you'll all have to try to guess the novel's plot from the songs on the mix."

That's an awesome idea :)
I wish I could join in. I just know better :(

message 33: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments There is a small chance I might be able to swing something. I will confirm by the deadline.

message 34: by Emily (last edited Sep 24, 2013 02:16PM) (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments You can do it! I believe in your swing :)

message 35: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments I'm digitising some of my old music first, there are so many cds that are not on my computer yet. There is also so much music wasting away on cassette tapes; there may need to be some iTunes purchases in my future.

message 36: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments My playlist is pretty much done.

message 37: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments I'm working on mine now, trying to capture what it felt like to be 4 years old in 1973 through the sounds of the era. It's going to be fun.

message 38: by Jonathan (last edited Sep 28, 2013 07:57AM) (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Hah! I'll keep that in mind as I make my selections, Misha, but I'm really going for the toddler's perspective on that strange and wacky era. It was a very peculiar time in which to grow up--although none of us realized it, of course, as we had no other frame of reference and were just living in the moment.

message 39: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments Oh wait...I wasn't interpreting youth like that young. That's really fun. Like what your parents were listening to....hmmmm

message 40: by Emily (last edited Oct 01, 2013 07:12AM) (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments I have narrowed down my shebang playlist to 7 cds worth (this is pre-aforementioned iTunes purchases)!

I think the next week or so of driving to and from work will be listening to my very long winded first draft and whittling away to my final mix. I am a bit excited at the tunes in my future; I think this is the first time I have had such an involved 'process' for a shebang...

message 41: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I love the process.

I bought some dollars today for the return postage. They usually give me brand new crisp notes with consecutive serial numbers, but this time they gave me used ones. New ones are so much better.

message 42: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments I've been working on my playlist, which is going to be pretty interesting (I hope), a groovy sound-scape of 1973--we really did use the word groovy back in the 70s--including several brief items of ephemera that give a child's perspective on the era. I'm hoping to create a subtle sense of a child's consciousness, a dreamy mood in which things are just beginning to come into focus. So there will be a lot of novelties, oddities, and curious segues...

message 43: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments That sounds really interesting.

message 44: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments Heidi! I missed that you're doing this shebang!! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
