Marie,
I've already read it and I agree w/ you about the Mermen. It's next in line to be reviewed if I ever get 5 min. alone w/ my thoughts. :-)

I've read it also! It's is a good read but not on par with The marked ones. It did come across more YA to me tho so I guess it's not really comparable. Can you believe we have to wait till April 2014 for the next instalment tho :(

The author is giving away free copies for anyone who hasn't read read it http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

I am working on an entry as a writing exercise. Will it be done in time? Who knows?

Believe it or not, the 1st draft is done. It wants revision, proofing and much better formatting.

Nonetheless, it weighs in at 3.5 pages.

Howard Parsons (howardparsons) | 234 comments Marie wrote: "I hope you get it done in time so I can read it!"

I think that it'll be ready in plenty of time.

Howard Parsons (howardparsons) | 234 comments Put on the finishing touches this morning. Will submit it to my wife this evening. It should prove interesting as she has absolutely no interest in fantasy but yet keeps saying that she wants to hear more my work on "Urban Mermaid". If nothing else, I get free proof-reading from this deal. :-)

Howard Parsons (howardparsons) | 234 comments No joy last night. CloudDrive didn't sync & when I got home, I found that the file only had the earliest revisions from that morning. @$#!&*

S.K. Munt (wordwhisperer) Excited :)

message 12: by S.K. (new)

S.K. Munt (wordwhisperer) Good luck Howard- I don't really do the short story thing- I'm missing that gene :)

message 13: by Howard (new)

Howard Parsons (howardparsons) | 234 comments Henceforth, any and all discussion of "Dear Mom, . . ." is moving to the "Just Talk" topic as part of an effort to get this topic back on course.

Very good Howard :) I'd love to read it :)

Yes and I've reviewed. Last month. Whoopsiedaisy about the thread!
Have you read TCOTD yet?

message 16: by Jen (new)

Jen | 403 comments Mod
Speaking of TCOTD I was speaking it the author about how disappointing it was that Mericle ended up with (it's been a while) what's his name but I think she had more chemistry with the "friend" and she hinted that there is more to that in the next book.. I'm thinking triangle

Marie wrote: "Oh Jen, You're sneaky. But, I am so happy to hear that. When Meri ended up with what's his name, it was bittersweet. I was kind of like, oh, well, I guess if they're matched its meant to be. But, I..."

Yesssss, I was thinking the exact same. Perhaps the ocean spirit had a mix up in the lab and Meri was wrongly matched to Jeff (whats his name) because I felt like Meri fell into insta love with Jeff and his kissing skills but her relationship with Matt (friend) had so much more substance/chemistry!

Jen | 403 comments Mod
If something does spark up between Meri and Matt, I am interested to see Matt's Match's (Sparrow is it?) reaction. Meri isn't the type to hurt her friend. Don't get me wrong I don't go around steeling my friends husbands but at times I found Meri totally Dull, like she didn't know how to let loose and have a little fun. Annnyyways, I don't know how the author will pull it off though because they don't really have control over their attraction to their matched do they? Thus squashing attraction to others besides their match. The spirit must change her mind.. It's the only way

Yes, I can see that! maybe with her total status she can sway the OS kinda like a billionaire business mogul or politician :)

I hope she spends some time underwater but returns to land for the majority of the book but the end of TCOTD implied a lot of underwater time to come

I can't remember an enchantress? her real father?

message 22: by Jen (new)

Jen | 403 comments Mod
Oh right of corse! I forgot a fairly major part there didn't I :) All I remember is the scene on the bridge near the pool ;)

you could be right.. her father may not be an arse at all! I mean he did seam to change all of a sudden didn't he with an abrupt goodbye letter to Merri's mother ?

Btw Did anyone release their first book today??

I hope it's something ridiculously sugary like fruit loops or something. Don't tell me you are celebrating with bran flakes or something;)

Seriously though.. congratulations I hope the response exceeds your expectations xoxo

I'm checking out your blog now! can you believe my reading calendar just became wide open (Thank you very much S.K) :)

I think OS will assign the much more likeable roomy with Jeff. And there you have it... We pretty much just wrote TCOTD #2

Howard Parsons (howardparsons) | 234 comments Marie wrote: "Also, do you think Meri's roommate is going to have a bigger role in anyway . . .I mean, she is human after all."

I remember thinking the same thing. I suspect that she will have a bigger role somewhere along the line.

Howard Parsons (howardparsons) | 234 comments Marie wrote: "Howard, I'm so glad you decided to join in.

She has to have a bigger role. I liked her, even though we didn't see much of her. She was doing her thing, and was happy to make Meri come with her. It..."

I'll be skimming this book in a week or two in order to cobble a long overdue review. (Have to review a book by some OZ author named Munt 1st!)

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I feel badly that I didn't like it that much. I don't have that many points of view on it. It was the meri thing, I just couldn't take to her. It was a good read I just didn't feel my heart pounding, you no?

I haven't read it but I'm seen the movie so I imagine how you are feeling! I went thru the same recently with "The fault in our stars"

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

I thought the fault in our stars was wrenching but in msk the main character girl DIES not the sister :'(

Howard Parsons (howardparsons) | 234 comments This gives me something to look for when I do my pre-review skim in a week or so.
