Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) I have given this a lot of thought over recent weeks. I am unable to devote the time to OGSG that I used to and need to scale back.

I am looking for someone who has been a long time member of OGSG like myself, (I've been a member since 2008), who is devoted to the group and the best interests of the group overall, who is open-minded and can step in and be fair to all when negative situations arise. (They don't happen often here, but they do happen). Someone who is a consistently active member of the group.

If you are interested, please comment below that you would like to be considered.

**Please do not make other comments in this thread aside from the fact that you would like to be considered to be the moderator.** This is a personal decision on my part being the original creator and moderator of this group and therefore not open to debate.

Once I've made my decision, I will notify the person privately via message before announcing it to the group.

I will stay in the group and on as moderator for a couple/few weeks to help the new moderator get settled and learn to do anything she/he doesn't know how to do. Once I leave, the group is yours to do with as you please! (Including coming up with a new group name, group description, header/banner and profile pics).

If no one is interested, unfortunately, I will have to delete the group because I do not want to leave it without a moderator.

Venus Smurf | 8 comments I haven't been a member of the group for very long, and I've naturally been more active in some of my more established groups, but if nobody else steps forward, I'm willing to put in the time. At the very least, I'm a better alternative to deletion.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) I truly appreciate your offer! Makes me sad that none of the longtime members have volunteered.

message 4: by MissJessie (new)

MissJessie Jo, I considered it. But given the state of GR today, it's a nonstarter for me as one of these days I'll probably have enough and bail out. I hope the group remains viable; it's a joy.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) I may end up bailing on goodeads as well or greatly curtailing my use of the site, and that's *part* of the reason I'd hoped to find another moderator for this group. I'm at a loss given recent goodeads/amazon activities on the site - so deeply disappointed that a site I enjoyed so much and was so good for me has come to this.

message 6: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I feel the same way too, which is why I am also on Booklikes now. I don't want to be both the writer of advertising copy and the target of it for Amazon.

message 7: by Venus (new)

Venus Smurf | 8 comments It's truly a shame that so many of the things we've come to love about GR are slowly--and not so slowly--disappearing. I'll be sticking around, though, because I still have too many connections through this site that I'm reluctant to throw aside.

In any case, Jo, while of course you should see if you can get a long-standing member to act as moderator, if it doesn't work out, I have the time. I'd hate to see this group disappear for something I'm capable of doing.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) And I truly appreciate that! It's not something I'm going to do immediately, and maybe if I can feel better physically a tad more often than I have been, I'll be able to get back into goodreads full tilt.

I've never used this site for book reviews or recommendations. If a book catches my interest by its' synopsis, I'll read it regardless of reviews. Reading is so personally different for every person. I've used goodreads for the interaction with others who share common interests with me, to chat about books, gardening, daily life - things I don't often do being a disabled stay at home wife, which is extremely isolating for me.

message 9: by MissJessie (new)

MissJessie Well Jo even if you "de moderator" I hope you don't bail out immediately from the group. The conversations here are always very pleasant and I'd miss you, and everyone else. I'm currently planning to hang around for the conversations on GR, just not add to their database with reviews or librarianing anymore.

And I hope you improve physically. Although, of course, one can use a laptop even in bed, as I know :).

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Ha Don't I know it re using the laptop in bed! But often I'm not well enough to do that. Ugh!

I am so sorry Jo. I hope your health improves. Rapidly.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Aw, thank you! Much appreciated. This is my lot in life unfortunately. Sometimes symptom management works, more often it doesn't. I thought dealing with it would get easier as I get older, but boy was I wrong lol! It's been well over 20 years now and I think it's all caught up with me recently so to speak!

I'm so sorry you are having a tough time with your health issues and certainly hope things improve in the future. I'm glad to hear you are not leaving the group as I think you were my first OGSG friend and I would hate to lose that connection. I'm very attached to this group as I feel I gain so much from being a part of it. The information, support and laughter have become a special part of my life. I've decided to stop writing reviews and will only use the site to track my reading list and keep in touch with special groups like this one.

message 14: by MissJessie (new)

MissJessie Well said Cheryl. Me too.

message 15: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I'm questioning whether or not I want to contribute to this site, but I love the people here and this group is special, so I'm staying, but probably not writing reviews here.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) OGSG - United We Stand!!! :-) :-) :-)

Elizabeth (elizabeth8921) | 273 comments I am not sure what all is involved but I have owned a nursery for 30 years, have a huge 1 acre garden and know alot about plants. Plus I love people.

I'd noticed your recent absence from the threads but had hoped it was due to summertime hectic rather than ill health. I'm so sorry to hear that it's your health keeping you away. When I joined GR, this was the first group I joined, and you were the first person to respond to my friend request. This is still the group I frequent the most, and my dearest GR friends are here. I'd be distressed to see this group dissolved. Although, Amazon may single-handedly destroy the entire site as we know it.

Elizabeth (elizabeth8921) | 273 comments Have not heard back from you. Anything I need to know or tell you about myself.
Stay well.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Refer to message # 8 above and thank you for offering Elizabeth! I appreciate it!

message 21: by Cheryl S. (new)

Cheryl S. | 3501 comments I'm so glad to see people are staying in the group even though we don't agree with what's being done to GR.

message 22: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I'm staying, at least for now, but I'm also liking BookLikes. Dawid, the CEO, actually 'likes' posts, replies to emails and is very responsive to the idea of new features. I like being able to blog there, just as authors are here. But I like the groups (especially this one) on GR.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) I'm also happy to hear folks want to stay on and I'm happy this group makes others happy. If y'all don't mind my being MIA from time to time, I'll stay on, things will stay as they've been and we'll play it by ear with how things go with goodreads. I've looked at BookLikes and it seems like a good site (don't they all in the beginning?!) but adding to my online life just complicates things for me even more and I don't need that so I'm undecided if I'll make an account there or not. Are they mobile too or have an app yet?

I have recently set up an account at Booklikes and so far it is just a personal web site with links to other member sites. Booklikes right now does not match Goodreads yet.

Goodreads is better for now. Most groups here have several moderators.
I have the Goodreads app for my iPhone and iPad, these apps are well made with good use of notifications that are independent of eMails.

The BookLikes app is just a simple book scanner to make adding books to ones account. No notifications of postings or much else.

I do like the "BookCrawler" app for my iPhone and iPad that can sync books with Goodreads.com. If Goodreads ever goes down, I still have my books and book reviews on my devices and computer, not just on some web site.

As for your original post, I have no wish to be a moderator, Sorry. However, I do like what you have created. If you do stay and do not remove this group, how about a quarterly garden book selection for group discussions:)

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) I tried for a few years to do seasonal gardening themed group reads here and it was like pulling teeth to just get nominations so it didn't work out.

message 26: by Mickey (new)

Mickey Thanks for reminding of my next dental appointment, my jaw hurts already :)

There is a group that has an excellent model for choosing book selections which is the "Sci Fi Aficionados". But you are correct in way, since this is a global club, gardening is different from location to location. What works here may not work there. As no one on in my area would have an interest in growing cactus. I do get most of my gardening help information from the local Master Gardeners Volunteer program.

Then again has this club grown since the last time you tried a club read?

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) It has grown since the last time I tried it but even more so with folks from countries outside the US. That would make it even more difficult, especially with availability with titles - what's available here in he US isn't always available overseas and vice versa. I can set up a Buddy Reads section where if you (or any other member) wants to read a gardening themed book, that person can post the title and start date in the thread title and then the title, author and description in the first comment of the thread - anyone interested in reading he book will comment in the thread and then you can all read it and discuss it together as of the start date in that thread.

I'll post a link here when it's ready!

Kimberly Comeau (kimberlykcomeau) | 299 comments Jo, I value the gardening information you share, but understand your health challenges. I'm happy having you contribute when you can, and won't mind the stretches of time when you can't. So yes, I'm fine with whatever time you're able to moderate. The group would seem strange without you.

message 30: by MissJessie (new)

MissJessie Yes, amen Kimberly. Without Jo it would not be the same at all.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Aw, thank you both, you've made my day!!!! :-)

I'm happy that you are staying and I hope that your health improves and you feel a great deal better soon. There are such nice people in this group, but it wouldn't be the same without you at all, Jo.

Cheryl S. | 3501 comments Not to sound like a broken record Jo--I too hope you stay.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Thank you Petra & Cheryl!!! :-) :-)
