NBRC: Tower Teams Read 2013, Round II discussion

I thought with the team becoming more active it might be nice to have a topic where we can plan out books we want to read for challenges. So for example, for October's upcoming read-a-thon, I want to make a list of books I want to read to get my goal. If I make the list here and cross them off as I go, it gives me somewhere to interact with people and keep myself accountable.

This is what I plan to read so far. I'll add to it later.

Kissed A Sad Goodbye - Task 3

I've already started on these books since they are pretty long

Phantoms by Dean Koontz for task 1

Audiobook is 12 cds

AND

A Dark and Lonely Place by Edna Buchanan which would fit task 2 (black and orange cover)

AND

End in Tears by Ruth Rendell which would fit task 3 (murder mystery) or tasks 4 or 5 spell it outs.

I think others have said they would read task 3 books as well.

Jackie and I are reading books for task 3. Is someone else reading a book for task 3? Otherwise I will find one that fits. After the first 3 tasks are completed than the spell-it-outs should be easy.

So, at this point. This is what I've got.

I've got my 3 books well under way and unless life gets in the way hope to finish all three tomorrow. Then I will work on some task 4 or 5 books. I am in 3 other big challenges that will determine what I read from then on. I absolutely have to learn how to say NO to these reading challenges.

Can members please post something like this every 2-3 days? The mods would like to keep a fairly current total of pages read. I will check every day, but the post will also notify me that there has been more completed if I lose track of where everyone was last time I had checked.

Also, as the mods posted in the regular thread, speed of reading is no longer an issue for part 2. The books can be read and posted anytime during Read-a-Thon, I just have to post the tasks in order.

And you being the mathematician will do the figuring for posts regarding how many pages right when people read something other than paperbacks. For example at the moment I am listening to 2 audiobooks, reading a kindle book and reading a large print book. I don't know how you will figure percentages or pages from that. The kindle book is easy because it gives percentages. But 100 pages in a lp book is not the same as 100 pages in a ppb. Clear as mud?

For audiobooks, tell me how much of the audiobook was listened to. For example, listened to 3 hrs of 12 hr book. This is the best way since the book usually says how long it is. If you can't find that, then number of cds listened to out of the total number of cds. I have found that the book is usually split up pretty evenly on all CDs.

For large print, tell me the number of pages read and the total pages in the book. For example, read 100 of 650 pgs.

For kindle give me percent read.

With that I should be able to figure out pages to be counted from the percentages. With entire books read, I just have to find the corresponding regular print version and use their page counts. Shouldn't be too difficult.

No, I don't want to know how you do your figuring. I was just trying to make it as easy for you as possible. What you said is what I figured I would post so all is good. Thanks for helping us.

Sheila, I am putting your page goal at 3000 since earlier you said 200 pgs/day for the 15 days.

Read the last 11% of the Kindle book to finish this book for Task 3 - Theme #5:Face your Fears (**) - (multiple murders)

Dare Me by Megan Abbott

Read 26% of kindle book
