Endless Knight discussion

Just finished Endless Knight at an ungodly speed...and now I wanna talk! Wanted to know what others thought of book 2. Personally I loved it because I didn't see where it was going and it wasn't just a rehash of the first book. I also love anything Kresley Cole writes and I appreciate that this book pushes the YA label. DEATH! Lets talk about him....I'm still thinking about it but I think he skipped ahead of Jackson after this book. Cole does a great job showing there are grey areas and most people good and bad. Evie was not that great of a person in the past and look at poor death!

Loved it! I'm on the fence between Death and Jack. My current personal theory is that Jack is Arcana, the dormant card. I so can't wait until the third book.

I loved death, but I agree Jack is more than just a muggle. And even though I'd rather have Evie and Death paired up, I think in the end it'll wind up being Jack and Evie.

First, I love how muggle is a term and everyone knows what it means. Second, I really can't wait ONE year for book three! That's SOOOOO long! Jack is till a hot cajun and I can't not like him. I know there are reasons he did what he did but I REALLLLLLLLY like Death. He isn't what I thought and he is a pretty complex character which makes me like him even more. Congrats to Cole for jumping on the hot, dominant, alpha male train. I think I want Death and Evie together...but i could change my mind..

With Kresley anything is possible, she's such a good writer I'm sure she'll sway me to want whatever she sells :)

I love Jackson. Everything about him. I believe that Evie's mom manipulated Jackson to assist in her suicide so that Evie would be protected by him. I don't think in my heart that Jackson wanted to do it and I know it probably killed him to lie to her about it. I think he did it out of compassion. As for Death, I like him, but not for Evie. Their relationship has been poisoned from the start. he doesn't have a deep love for her. he looks at her like a possession and he lusts for her because she's the only one he can touch. so no, I do not like that part of the story. it caused a huge emotional roller coaster though the book, which was good, but I don't want them together. I still believe in Jackson and Evie. And I think he's the card that will be activated when he kills an Arcana. I think he's going to kill one or both of the lovers for what they did to Clotile, and it will activate him into the game, probably as the Emporer. I CAN'T WAIT ANOTHER YEAR!!!

Plus Evie and Death got 4 months of one-on-time in EK with no bagman or anything.
Jack and Evie didn't have that really when u think about it, for there
Relationship to grow and focus on, without something going wrong or interrupted
And he has always put her well being befor his own..
Plus like I mentioned before, the whole ending was really wrong on his part because he is forcing her in order to save Jack
But regardless, I don't think Evie will do it,being the empress who doesnt get controlled like that
I guess we'll see how that gonna play out...

Chrissy that's a get point that Evie and Jack haven't had a chance to let their relationship grow uninterrupted. I also think that she won't go through with what Death want, it's just not her. All this talk ...I'm back on the Jack Evie train...don't judge me :)...but I still like death...

I think that Death isn't actually going to force her. That was just a cliffhanger to make us think it, but I think deep down he's honorable and it's gonna kill him but he's gonna let her go to Jack and he may even help save him. I do think Jack is definitely an unactivated card and there is gonna be a lot of bad mojo in the next book

Still reeling after finishing the book. Srsly, this is one of those rare moments where I can't decide what team I'm on!
I love Death. He kind of reminds me of Lothaire (the die-hard IAD fans know what I mean). But I love Jackson too! This is so hard. Between the sexy ruthless killer and the sexy bad-boy jackass (I say this affectionately), it's like Sophie's Choice.

Also, I didn't think Jackson could be one of the Arcana till now. Who do you think he would most likely be?

I have always love death from the first book. when Evie told her grandma that she just felt sad for death while looking at the tarot card, I was like I know there is more to just death with Aric.

Now for Jackson, I think he can be one of the arcana but, if he is, then how come matt can't see his future. He is always saying that he is unexpected. maybe he is one of the MINOR arcana that Evie and death was talking about when playing that card game..... hmmmmm

My new OTP is Death and Evie. I just don't know if it's possible since they're both Arcana cards. I feel sorry for Jackson and I still like him but... i don't know. i'm still shocked to know that the Empress and Death were married but the Empress tried to kill him. That sucks

I am so glad that I found others who think that Death is manipulative and obsessed with Evie. I have been reading comment after comment on how great he is. I found his so called love to be more of a sick obsession due to the fact that she is the only one he can touch. I also found him at the ending to be border line rapist. I have no idea if Evie will go through with it or not, but it was beyond wrong for him to proposition her like that. I can't stand Death and overall HATE the love triangle.

I loved Endless Knight. I still love Jackson though Death is growing on me. I feel sorry for the poor guy after learning his history with the Empress. What a sad lonely life. That Cajun boy is still my favorite. Like others have said, I'm not really a fan of love triangles. Even though I have softened towards Death after this book, the ending left me mad as hell. I do not like the ultimatum he gives Evie at the end; that should never be forced, she should always have a choice and obviously if she wants his help, he has left her with no other options.

Oh, I love your way of thinking that Jack could be the Emperor. That would be awesome.

I think Jack is the Emperor or the Sun card and he will be activated when he kills one of the twins or both!!!

It wouldn't surprise me if Jack end up with Selena with he's activated. She pines over him and I think she might play a big role in who Evie might end up with.

This was so amazing! I am rooting for Aric (Love the name), but at the same time, Jack is still on my mind. I don't think Selena and Finn will die. I think Joules and his alliance might save them. I do think that when Jack becomes activated ( and he will, because Mathew is intrigued by him and all the hints KC thrown in), he might become attracted to Selena.
Well that's just me guessing! We'll have to wait a WHOLE year for the third book!!

Waiting that long to find out is gonna be super stressful. But think of all the theories we can come up with in the meantime. ;) At least this isn't as bad as waiting in between books for the Fever Series. That one literally made me crazy for a five year span. I'm only just becoming slightly more sane.

So, I have a theory after re-reading Poison Princess and parts of Endless Knight and here is what I think:

SPOILER ALERT:

I think that if Jack turns out to be more than just a human and could actually be a card (like others have suggested) that has been laying dormant and just has not been activated yet, that he has some past with Evie and Death is keeping that from her. I think there is more to Evie and Jack's relationship than meets the eye. I think this love triangle may have been around in a past life and the only one who remembers it is Death. I think he may just be a master manipulator.

I also had already suspected what was revealed about Evie's ex-boyfriend and Jack's connection in Book 1. I thought that same thing when Jack revealed to Evie why his father had nothing to do with him. I also think that his other secret was something Evie's mother begged him to do because she wanted Evie safe and knew that she wasn't going to make it anyway.

Back to the trio, in a nutshell, I think Evie and Jack were lovers in a past life. Death is pissed that it's happening all over again. Thinking back on how Jack always quieted the voices in her head whenever he was near her, she always felt desire for him but not her boyfriend (book 1). It's just a theory but I think we will find out in Book 3 that Jack, Evie and Death have been down this road together before especially towards the end of book 2 when Death asked her if he had let go of his anger and come to save her and her mother would she have fallen for him instead and she said, "yes." I think he's pissed at himself because he now knows who Jack really is and Jack is back in her heart again. Their history is repeating itself. Evie may have been Death's wife in a past life, but I also think she and Jack were lovers. Another thing that got me thinking this is that Matthew kept saying "whenever he helps, he hurts" as if this is an ongoing thing with Jack as if it is something that has happened before. Although it does not explain why Matthew kept saying "not Arcana" when referring to Jack. Maybe because Jack is a minor card and not a Major Arcana. I don't know, but I do think we have only just scratched the surface of Jack and Evie and Evie and Death's past relationship.

I think Tina suggested that Jack could be the Emperor card. It does suit his personality. I looked up The Emperor card and some keywords used by card readers sound a lot like Jack: authority, control, common sense, egocentrism, leadership, experience, organization, etc.

Oh and that cliffhanger ending, shit is about to get real. I just hope nothing happens to Jack and this does not turn into some supernatural Hunger Games where he gets tortured by the lovers and loses his shit, just like Peeta did in Mocking Jay. I will lose my shit if anything happens to that sweet Cajun. I can't wait for Book #3.

I have one small theory...how I dont feel that Evie will have sex with Death after all...
I think she might use her Empress powers to put him to sleep and run to save Jack....(sigh) if only :/

omg, I was thinking the same thing!! I just kept envisioning Lothaire and how he kept ellie at arms length because he didn't want HER, he wanted Saroya. When Death was treating Evie that way, I just kept thinking of Lothaire too!

I loved it! I can't decide which team I'm on, though. I guess I'll have a year to figure it out.

I agree with you. Ultimately Death will let Evie go, he's too honorable not to. Evie will end up with Jack, I just hope Death gets to finally experience happiness himself. I also think Jack is the unactivated card. More specifically I think he's the Emperor card. I guess we'll have to wait another year to find out what will happen.

Almost done with this book and I am loving it. I am 100% with Jack and Evie I mean I feel bad for Death but he is a bit manipulative. I have fallen for that Cajun and he is more than just a muggle either he is one of the unactivated card or maybe a god.... just a theory.

I agree. Love triangles are the worst. I always think there should be a threesome at the end that way no one gets hurt and they all end up happy together but that's just my kinky side talking and this is YA so ya know that ain't gonna happen. lol

LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!! I'm team "I don't even care". Which is completely weird for me because normally I have to be on a team. I just love them both.

Death has so many more layers than I gave him credit for in P.P. Jack is still pretty much the same as he was so where could you go wrong? I love the cover of this book because if I open it completely I can stare at both of them. Holy hotness! That's not creepy is it?

I'll be honest, I hate the cover. Death looks silly to me. But, I never buy Kresley's books because of the cover anyway. :p

My theory is that Death will not go through with his threat and do the who if you love someone set them free thing ...Jack will kill one of the lovers and his card will activate. But I think that one of them will die in the end ... Jack or Death ... Whichever one dies, Evie will have their baby ending the games and the other man will raise the child with her. I also think that Selena ends up falling for Gabriel and Lark and Finn patch everything up in the epic battle at the end where one of the friends also dies .... Just trying to figure out what DVO stands for ...

If the third book in the series is as well written as the first two, then I will grudgingly wait for the next even if it takes a year. I believe Death has an unhealthy love of Evie and Evie has Stockholm Syndrome for Death. I can't wait to see how Kresley Cole spins the story because she has a great talent. I get frustrated with love triangles, because unless it becomes a threesome, I always feel sorry for one of them.

Yet, Death seems to have a good heart and hides the fact that he hates to kill until he is forced to with no other option. He even opened himself for Evie to kill him because he's truly tired of living 7-thousand years alone. My heart breaks for him.

Yet, my heart breaks for Jack too. My guess is that Jack has the same symbol on his card that Death and Evie have. Matthew stated to Evie after she was taken by Death that "Jack was unexpected." Somethings is afoot in the continuing plot and I want to leave my speculations as a surprise. The next book will be like Christmas morning when more is revealed.

How many more books will there be? If there are 22 cards - with maybe 5 cards dead - how many more books will it take to find out how it ends?

How did I like it? Let's just say that I am going 2 go absolutely insane until the next one comes out.

Someone mentioned (I think it was on KC's FB page) that on the wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Empr...) of the Empress(tarot) the Hang Man is kinda of her consort but then I found this link http://www.tarotschool.com/HangedMan_... I was conviced.

Man, this was so good!!

I really think that Jack is the Arcana that won't be activated until he kills another card. My money is on him being The Hanged Man. If you look at the card, the way he's hanging looks an awful lot like a cross. Jack wears a cross with a rose in the middle, and what did he do when he first saw Evie go full empress? Make the sign of the cross. Maybe this was something in his subconscious pulling up the memory. The wikipedia entry on The Hanged Man also says that he and the Empress are consorts, like someone else mentioned, and that the card symbolizes sacrifice. He's proven over and over again that he will sacrifice for Evie.

One last thing that I may be totally reading into is that the Hanged Man is called "our lord uncanny" on Lark's list of cards. I just noticed that one of the Cajun sayings on Kresely's website is "C'est suprenant," meaning "That's uncanny." I searched for this saying on my Kindle and Jack says this to Evie in Poison Princess when he's describing the rest of the world after the flash.

The only thing that makes me unsure is Matthew always saying "Not Arcana" when it comes to Jack. If Jack were the yet to be activated Arcana, wouldn't Matthew know? Or maybe he does, but is just focused on the endgame? I don't know. What do you guys think?

But with the fool he seems to be very literal. Jack isn't arcana... Yet. Maybe that's why he keeps rambling that.
