Kelly (xitomatl) Hey She-Geeks!

We want to make this group as inclusive and exciting for everybody as possible, while fostering a lot of really great conversations and topics for our members, so we thought of introducing a suggestions thread where you guys can post thoughts on making this group better!

If you have any suggestions at all, feel free to post them here - these could be anything from discussion topics you'd like to see, to contest ideas, new ways to handle group reads, etc. No limits at all, no idea too wacky!

If you don't feel comfortable posting something openly, you can always contact one of the mods privately via private message as well.

I was hoping to get a traveling book up and running. Info here:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Good idea! Hopefully it'll take off and next time someone else will be able to start it.

Shannon (frejafolkvangar) | 107 comments Yasemin, why does the name She-Geeks negate our attractiveness or intelligence? Neither "she" nor "geek" is an insult here.

Rebecca (flusen) | 117 comments I have no feelings for the name. But I don't like the group picture. :)
However I don't have a better picture, but maybe something other than a typical American comic super heroine would be nice.

P.S.: It's not even that important, but maybe someone has a nicer one. ^^

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Aww, I like She Geeks. It feels in your face and proud to me.

Rebbecca, I'd like to see ideas for a new group pic. Options are good. A mod did suggest changing it at one point.

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments I like that. Kind of a woman of the month to represent us.

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments I like that! I'm a sucker for polls.

Jim (jkmfilms) | 109 comments I love the name "She-Geeks"!

And I'm not even a "she" :)

The poll idea is good, too...I love my superheroes (and heroines) but I tend to agree with Rebecca:

Jim (jkmfilms) | 109 comments Are any of the moderators members of the Goodreads Feedback group? Have you ever thought about doing a yearly challenge? Like "reading ## books with a strong female lead" or something like that?

message 12: by Natalie (new)

Natalie I've noticed over the last few months that the activity in this group has gone way down. We never had nominations for November reads, only one of the December reads had a post, and there has been no moderator posts in this group since the end of December, despite all the moderators still being active on Goodreads.

I've seen a lot of good ideas but little follow-through.

I've decided to leave, but I wish you all the best and would like to sincerely thank everyone for the recommendations and discussions.

Well Natalie has already left so I can't really respond to her.

On behalf of the mods I would like to apologise to anyone who feels we have neglected the groups. We all have very busy lives and yes we may have still been updating on GR but it is certainly easier to click read on a book than do all of the work required to mod a group.

I can't speak of my fellow mods but I have two jobs, I'm studying on a full time course and I have multiple disabilities that often prevent me from being productive (also we were quieter over the holiday period, I think that one explains itself). It is a lot of work to mod a group and most people had given up on being involved in discussions long before we stopped updating them.

I do sincerely apologise for the lack of presence her lately, I'd like to promise that it will get better but if we put all of the effort in again and no one responds I can almost guarantee that we'll stop again.

I hope that everyone in this group will work as hard as we do try to to be a success.

message 14: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (frejafolkvangar) | 107 comments No worries, at least from me, Stefani. I have a health problem that makes me less productive at times too, so I totally get it. I didn't really check GR over the holidays anyway, so I didn't notice I wasn't missing much.

Thank you so much Shannon, it really means a lot to me that you understand.

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments I hate to see people leave the group, and I know we have been slacking as of late.

Personally I can't commit a lot of time to the group now as I just had a baby. I'm spending less time on GR than ever before. However, maybe the mods can split up duties so that we don't miss the monthly reads going forward.
