It is time to start taking nominations for the November group reads. The first ten books, or those nominated by 20 October, will be the nominees. Voting will run through 27 Oct. Top 2 books will be the group reads.

Let the nominations begin.

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Out of Darkness Out of Darkness (The Starborn Saga, #1) by Jason D. Morrow by Jason D. Morrow
In full disclosure I've read this book, gave it five stars.
Its been free on amazon a lot so chances are many of you zombie lovers already own it.
I own the 2nd book in the series but haven't read it yet, as I'm saving it for a book challenge. I have the recently released 3rd book in the series on my wish list.
Anyway it's REASONABLY priced at 99¢
http://www.amazon.com/Darkness-Book-S...
338 pages long. Young indie author (mid-twenties).

Randy Harmelink | 2188 comments Note that Out of Darkness is on the KLL program.

I'm almost done with the 2nd book.

message 4: by Tammy K. (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Sounds like an endorsement Randy.
Are you seconding my nomination? J/K :-)

message 5: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresatheterrible) Oh...nomination time! I nominate Breathers: A Zombie's Lament orBrains: A Zombie Memoir. Hey...if we picked Breathers, we could follow up with I Saw Zombies Eating Santa Claus: A Breathers Christmas Carol just in time for the holidays! ;-) I'm gonna skim through my Kindle and see what I have on there so I can see what I already have waiting to be read!

Samantha Cheney | 16 comments We should read day by day shattered hourglass

message 8: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresatheterrible) You guys seem to wanna read Out Of Darkness pretty bad, but also, it seems to me as though you'd like to read the second book. I was thinking maybe both of them could be chosen...read the first, the the second book for the second half of the month. What do you guys think about that? I take your guys' word that its good, and this would give you motivation to read the second book. Just a suggestion!

message 9: by Randy (new)

Randy Harmelink | 2188 comments Yeah. It would be hard for people to START with the second book in a series.

It wouldn't really affect me, since I've already read the first book and am nearly done with the second.

message 10: by Tami (new)

Tami Bennett | 1 comments I nominate You and Me Against the World by Raymond Esposito. He is a new author but this book is awesome. I have read and given it 5 stars. I have read the sequel and given it 5 stars. It is so worth a read! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Shana Festa | 67 comments Devan Sagliani by Undead L.A. 1

I have reviewed this on bookie-monster.com and it earned my 5 stars!!

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) To avoid the awkward delay of locating a BOTM discussion leader next month, I'll lead Out of the Darkness if it is selected AND no one else is wanting to.
I do hope you've all picked it up while it was free, even if it's not selected as BOTM.

message 13: by Netanella (new)

Netanella | 2108 comments Four more days until Election Day...any more nominations forthcoming?

message 14: by Tammy K. (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) There is room for three more nominees.

message 15: by Netanella (new)

Netanella | 2108 comments No more nominations for me - but I am ready to cast my vote! All of the choices so far look really good.

message 16: by Tammy K. (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) I'd nominate more but I'd feel guilty.
I'd like to see us juggle a third BOTM in a special category that changes each month.

message 17: by Netanella (new)

Netanella | 2108 comments That's actually a cool idea, Tammy. What types of categories are you thinking?

message 18: by Tammy K. (last edited Oct 16, 2013 09:28PM) (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Specials could include:

*Zombies title with a female main character,
*Zombies book that take place in exotic locations (on island, in Asia, north or south pole)
*Zombie titles set in an alternate time line,
Zombie titles that are set another planet and or in outer space,
Zombie titles around a special date, what comes to my mind was the 12-21-12 end of the world prediction, there was a large number of books that used that date.
*However another way to look at a date might be to say any book that takes place over a holiday or vacation (Christmas, Halloween, Spring Break, Summer Break and so on)
*Another special category could be a non-plague transmission like voodoo or radiation and so on.
*Another category could be debut novels, the very first book an author writes.
Or a category for the series sequel of the previous BOTM (this would be best to wait like a year after we began the BOTM's so their is more to choose from)

The special category list (to poll on) could be done by starting a thread where members suggest the special category? Something that stands out from the average "normal" zombie read (aka no man on a mission books.)

We can have polls each month to Select the special category of the following months special category so group members can look up the books that they own or want to read the most before they recommend a book.

Colin Buckland | 7 comments I'd like to nominate Aftermath and Other Zombie Shorts by Edwin Stark.

message 20: by Philip (new)

Philip McClimon (philmwrites) | 7 comments I have been meaning to read The Return Man for a while, so I nominate that.

The Return Man by V.M. Zito

message 21: by Tammy K. (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) I just checked The Return Man kindle pricing.
It is cheaper to purchase a paperback copy of it than to get the kindle book.
http://www.amazon.com/The-Return-Man-...

What's up with that?

message 22: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresatheterrible) I know, Tammy...that's why I bought a hard copy of Tankbread. It was only .50¢ cheaper to buy the Kindle version, and I prefer ink and paper whenever possible. But some of the e-books are WAAAAYYY more expensive than I think they should be, but what do I know? I DO know that I'm a cheapskate, and if I can get a book used cheaper than new or e-book version, that's what I do! :-)

message 23: by Tammy K. (last edited Oct 18, 2013 10:25PM) (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Both hard copy and digital copy have their place in my life.
I've gotten lazy with reading digital copies.
I do love the variety that digital formatting has added to my life.
But if I can save $ by reading a paperback or using my local library, you can bet I'm going to go that route.

It reminds me of when MP3 format first became available.
It wasn't difficult to choose a single song vs a whole CD.
Most CDs had maybe 4 songs worth listening to.
Now, when I see that I can get a song under a buck, or the whole CD in Mp3 format for 6 to 7 dollars or play for the CD at 10 bucks plus shipping and handing....
Well let's just say I don't purchase any new CDs and rarely ever do I purchase a complete digital formatted (MP3) CD.

With Amazon lending library, the old fashioned libraries, and friends who will loan me their kindle edition there is zero motivation for me to overpay for a kindle book.

message 24: by Tammy K. (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) OK I'm gonna say this, the return man looks to be a dang good book. I added it to my amazon wish list, and if it gets picked, I will buy it with my birthday gift money

Since we're reading The First Days this month, I'll go ahead and nominate Fighting to Survive by Rhiannon Frater.

The Savage Dead

Looks like it has some great reviews!

Lana (pushindazees) I think its going to be really hard to choose between all the nominations this month.

When I first read this two hours ago, some how I seen the word Corrupted as the word Incorporated (adj. 1. United into one body; combined.). I thought "oh okay, that is mighty kind of them."
Having taken a moment to reread your comment, I think "How very wicked of them. You can't trust a Southerner, now can ya?" ;-)

message 35: by Tammy K. (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Since I only get one vote, it will be an easy choice for me.
But if I had to choose a second book as well, Yes this would be a difficult month to vote.

in pole position...last day to vote!

message 38: by Lana (new)

Lana (pushindazees) The poll actually closed first thing this morning. I tried to vote and it told me it was already closed, however, my vote wouldn't have changed anything so its all good :-)

Moderators Note: The voting error was on my part. When I set it up to end on the 29th, I didn't check the "time" it ended on the 29th thoroughly and thought it ended at 1159 pm on the 29th but it actually ended at 1201 am on the 29th. I accepted a few votes from others that were mislead but the final results are the same. More out today.
