2015 Reading Challenge [Closed] discussion

This book has been on my to-read shelf for ever, so I'm looking forward to reading it. Mice and men are probably not antonyms strictly speaking, however I perceive the meaning of the title to be antonyms so I'm placing it in this week :)
I read about half of it years ago, but am not sure why I abandoned it as I was enjoying it. So here we go (again)!

I enjoyed this book a lot! It's short but packs a punch. I hope you'll like it.

I think I will get through it this time, it seems like a really quick read (already done 38%)! :D

I finished the book this morning, and I have to say I enjoyed it! It was a quick read, but said a lot in few pages.
I thought it read a little bit like a play actually, with different scenes. The author set a scene and people came in and talked before leaving again, while the same guy that was in the first scene was still there polishing his shoes or something (like for example the scene in the barn with the African American stable hand, Crooks).

(view spoiler)[ I also found the parallels drawn between Lennie and Candy's dog to be interesting. Candy said that he regretted not putting him down himself, so that's why I think George killed Lennie instead of letting Curley do it, also by aiming to his neck, the way Candy's dog was killed. However, it was a little disturbing though to compare Lennie to an old blind crippled dog, as though he was less worth than a person of normal intelligence. But like I said, I guess he would have died a more painful death if the other guys had found him first or maybe they would have locked him up to rot in some dark prison and he would not have handled that well. Another thing I thought about is that he didn't seem to regret killing the girl or be sad about it at all, he was only sad because he thought he wouldn't get his bunnies. I had a little hard time finding that believable... Or maybe it's just that he has a hard time relating to other people? (hide spoiler)]

Anyway, I thought it was an interesting look at both the life of a travelling farm worker during that time, and at racism and prejudice and discrimination against handicapped (Candy) or mentally disabled people. And also the common dream of all to have a place in this world. Thought provoking, and I liked it!

I love this story :)

I liked most of it, there were a bit too many metaphors and Margo was absolutely unbearable, but I would probably read it again.
