I again am taking up my soapbox to LOUDLY protest the lack of intelligence and common courtesy that is sadly lacking in this world. Yet again, I am being subjected to bovine like chewing, crunching, rustling and slurping of food stuffs while sitting in my public library. What I want to know is how did this kind of behavior become normal and acceptable? Why do we allow this kind of rude and lazy behavior to continue? Why are the laziest of us allowed to perpetrate this kind of low, inconsiderate and potentially dangerous behavior is places that are clearly inappropriate?

Why is it acceptable to bring you morning coffee to a library or wander the aisles of Target, Wal-Mart,Kohl's or any other store just because you feel like it? Signs in the malls that banned food and drink beyond the food court have vanished,as well as signs in clothing stores. Tell me, why to I want to buy anything from a store that allows food and beverages near the merchandise? That blue raspberry slurpie is NOT the ideal accessory to my outfit, the one I want to buy or am currently wearing.

There are plenty of places to eat, drink,be merry and use a computer. Their called coffee shops, restaurants, and your own home. There you can eat whatever you want, no matter how loud, stinky, sticky or obnoxious and you will fit right in.

What is the dangerous part you ask? Spilled beverages on floors and keyboards for one. Highly allergic people a second. As I have repeatedly protested to my libraries head offices (only to be glad handed and nothing changes) anyone with a severe allergy who gets exposed to an allergen, will sue the library for all it's worth. Thirdly, and I am really trying to understand this one, the library has vending machines! I know it is for "monetary assistance" (meaning their broke and hope these will help)but put them in a designated room and don't allow the food outside of it!

My library branch (and many others) are located right next to schools. The library has pop, cookies, chips, candy and snack cakes in their machines. So this makes the library a haven for junk food that they can't get next door at school, allowing for rudeness, loudness, and not so lovely behavior. Instead of having a designated area for food, they are allowed on the computers and in public areas to be as loud and messy as they like, which makes me stay away from the library after a certain time to avoid the ravening hoards.

I am calling for an end to rudeness, to lazy behavior and an overall intolerance of this kind of thing. If we all protest, then they will have to listen.

Maybe I should start a picket line........

It's bad enough to bring food and/or drink into a library or store, but people are stupid and irresponsible with them too...

OHHHH! I HATE that one too! I find them in all sorts of places, the library, the grocery store, department stores...why do I want to fight your trash? Why is inappropriate behavior being encouraged like this? How did it start and how do we end it?

I read one in the paper recently and I thought how "?!" until I saw it myself at Target the other day. A man wrote in to ask about what he saw in a department store was the new normal. A woman was trying on a blouse in the aisle instead of the dressing room. I saw a woman do the same thing at Target the other day, and the dressing rooms were 3 steps away!

How has this become normal?
