I Read Therefore I Am discussion

If anyone is interested in doing a Readalong of some Doris Lessing - I'm going to read The Grass is Singing in Feb. (I've seen some really good reviews)

I have to admit that I was going to skip the monthly read for Jan-Feb and read the Casual Vacancy which has been sitting on my kindle for months now.

I think Laurel was talking about March for Meditations - any suggestions for months for the other ones?

I will be reading Dante with the help of a good Italien friend in another group as well (I assume you need all the help you can get with Dante ;)) and we were contemplating to start in April. Group juggeling! ;) Would that be too close to meditations though? Probably. Anytime from April on would be fine by me though.

Any of the timings are fine with me, I'll go along with what's convenient for everyone. I've decided to get the Clive James translation of Dante although I cringe at the price, especially as I already have a copy on my shelves!

We can put the Meditations back a bit if you want - I haven't even got a copy yet anyways ;)

Ok - sounds like April is a definite for Dante - Any time is fine for me for Meditations.

@Hilary - I was planning on treating myself to a copy of Divine Comedy as well - not sure which one to go for yet but it's bound to not be cheap cos I want a really good introduction and lots of notes to help me along!

@Laurel. The Clive James one has good reviews but they do mention that it doesn't have a lot of notes, supposedly because it doesn't need them! I'm not sure what to do myself - I just didn't enjoy reading the copy that I have.

I'm following someone on twitter who is reading this and can ask which version she is reading.

Just been reading about it on wiki and sounds really interesting, but sounds very loooonnggg too. So I might give it a miss.

I did a bit of research as well (though no way I will be reading this in English, which is a bit of a shame because quoting will obviously be harder) and I think the go-to translator for Dante is Clive James like Tracey said. @ Tracey - we're only reading the 1st book - Inferno this year , Purgatory next year and we're not planning on reaching Heaven till 2016 :0)

I've only read Inferno so I'll browse back along with you all and then hitch a ride the rest of the way up.

Ok, so we have Plato's Republic at the moment and in April we're attempting Dante's Inferno, in May Angela and I are reading The Unbearable Lightness of Being and in June it's Richard III.
Are we still wanting to read Meditations?

I afraid I've struggled with Plato and haven't got very far at all. I'm definitely up for Meditations as when I've dipped in and out it's very interesting. I still haven't decided whether to get a new copy of Inferno that might be a better translation, but I'll join in anyway.

I'm defo still up for Meditations as well - shall we go July or is that too far away???
