Nikita I was annoyed by her too at first. I found her to be spoiled, selfish and bratty but she is a little kind after she finally sees that other people have problems too. But in the end, she grew on me as she grew up a little and allowed herself to open up to others. In the end, I end up liking her.

Varsha She's spoiled, selfish, and bratty, but finally understands other people. She grows up towards the end, when Ahren does his horrible thing. THATS A SPOILER, so I didn't say it..

Lara Ahren was amazing. I love him. Period. And Eadlyn? Yup. Spoiled rotten royal who really does need to grow up. Hopefully that happens before the end of the next book :/

Ilana i feel like she was just put in a very tough position. think about it, she was the child of the couple that decided to do away with all that was tradition of the country and then when things got bad, she's forced to do what she believed she was rid of.

that and the fact that she's just got a chip on her shoulder becvause she doesn't want ot be queen....that's got ot be annoying as heck.

our lovely author is great at writing in teen angst and that's what we got here!

Mimi Jean I got the feeling that she was under a lot of pressure but she was also spoiled and had no consideration for others feelings but she kinda improved at the end of the book

message 6: by Natalie (new)

Natalie I think she doesn't want to get to close to anyone and she pushes people away if they get to close to her and I can also relate to Eadlyn because I do the same thing. And she probably doesn't know how to let loose and enjoy herself because of being the future queen she feels she can't make any mistakes and she tries to be perfect.

Megan At first, she annoyed me as well. But farther in to the story, I felt I started to understand her more. I understood why she acted like she did, and I kinda felt for her a bit.
Don't worry, it gets better! keep reading :)

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

She is a brat. She said that one of the boy's anticipation for a date was cute, as in a "Aww, look at the cute little boy. He actually thinks he can win!" type of way. She's horrid!

Felicia Despite the weight of her responsibilities on her shoulders I found Eadlyn wholly annoying, and pathetic. She is the stereotypical royal as mentioned above. I find that her bull-headedness wasn't decisiveness more so than cruel demeanor. She has no compassion or empathy. As far as her improving by the end of the book? I disagree. She had very little of a wake up call and it did even less to change her outlook and overall behavior.
To top it off I find that Eadlyn has precisely zero redeeming qualities.

message 10: by Aly (new) - rated it 4 stars

Aly I kind of hate Eadlyn, but I can't really blame her. I mean, arranged marriage that's a lot pressure you know. Plus the soon to be queen thing. And besides, she's learned to care for the boys as the book comes to the end.

message 11: by Korey (new) - rated it 1 star

Korey Daniels Yes Eadlyn was a bitch tbh when you really think about it I wish she was like her brothers and more humble then Kiera wrote her as I know her being the next queen and stuff has a lot of pressure but that doesn't mean you should act like a bitch towards the boys & she was just really annoying

Tanya I did not like her at all she basically made me regret reading the book. She isn't anything like her brother or mother who sure did give me a slight headache in the previous books but she was much more humble. Eadlyn just needs to stop being self absorbed.

Netters I agree, Eadlyn is rude sometimes. She thinks she's better than everyone else and that everyone should feel sorry for her. I don't understand why all those boys were head over heels for her when she didn't even give them the time of day.

message 14: by Steven (new)

Steven Crawley **SPOILER**

She's horrible, even knowing how tired her dad is, knowing how unhappy the people are, and how much the whole family and nation needs her to do this right she decides to just make a joke of it... She's rude, snippy, cruel to some of them, and honestly jack doing what he did I loved because it finally showed real emotion from her, even if it was terror... Then the way she speaks to her maid, and her not even knowing how the people are doing, how her father's doing, that her mom's friend can't have kids... She's so pathetically self absorbed being "the most powerful person in the world" that she's forgets she isn't the world but just as she's told another person with a job no more or less important than anyone else... I had to force myself to finish this book because quite frankly she disgusts me with her shallow self absorbed behavior, always trying to push the boys into a mold saying they are forgetting protocol or etc when she herself is mad and being so horrible because she says she doesn't want to be forced to do anything... **SPOILER**

Galaxy How to make an Eadlyn

Ingredients:
1 cup of stuck-upness
1 bottle of whine
4 table spoons of selfishness
3/4 cup of annoying
1 can of B with an Itch
1/2 teaspoon of love

Directions:
Mix everything in a dirty garbage can using a stick up the a**. Spray Bratastic
on baking pan then pour in mixture. Set the oven/stomach to 98 degrees. Wait 9 months. Give to the most awesome couple ever.

Serves 36

Everythingat1once I also think she was a total spoiled brat and I was pretty annoyed when she kept on saying "im the queen, no one is more powerful than me" & "im beautiful, strong etc" like gosh, tone it down a notch would ya? but I think once she started to warm up to the guys, she got a lot better. You can tell that she wants to be independent so she is trying to do so by being rude but I think, deep down, she really has a kind heart and wants to find love but is scared so she locks it deep down and cover it with rudeness and if you are lucky enough to be able to dig through all her rude and mean comments/ remarks, you'll find a heart of gold and it will only belong to you. So yes, i think she is bratty and annoying sometimes but I realize that that is how she protects herself so I started to warm up to her later on in the book once I realized that.

message 17: by Jasiel (new)

Jasiel she is so annoying. i hope cass wasn't too desperate to make such an annoying character. we thought america sometimes sucked, try eadlyn. she says," i don't think it would be wise to spend time on young men who are rude or unimpressive.". then goes on to say," i scanned the words in my head. nothing humiliating or incriminating in there.". that was literally so contradicting and condescending. first things first, every time someone tries to correct her, she is so aggressive like she is the uttermost definition of perfection. second, i'm pretty sure everyone was done with her when she had some kind of complain about e v e r y t h i n g. oh and i knew the ending of the book before the the 25th page... any originality in there??? ugh extremely done at this point *sighs*

Cecilia Morin I was very annoyed with her and I am hoping that through this series she will learn to care for people. I am also hoping that maybe her future husband will show her how to show compassion towards other people and family.

Larose YES!

Joyce I was more annoyed by America tbh.

message 21: by Candy (new) - rated it 1 star

Candy Zzz *SPOILERS* (Read at your own risk my beautiful flowers <3)

I hate Eadlyn. I didn't notice her "improvement" by the end of the book. She changed her mind about the marriage thing, but only because she didn't have Ahren to fall back on anymore. She realized that she was going to be alone, so she decided to get married. Well that's how I understood it. For me, that's really pathetic. In the end, she was only thinking about herself. She cared about the Selected, yes. But wanted to keep them all for herself. She cared about her brother, but didn't want him to marry Camille because she didn't want to lose him, yet another selfish act. In short, she never really cared for anybody else. Even in agreeing to the Selection. She may have considered her dad's condition, but in the end, she wasn't wholeheartedly participating for the sake of her people; she was doing it to listen to her father and get things over with.

So no. I don't like her at all. Hoping she changes in The Crown though.

message 22: by Tofu (last edited Sep 13, 2016 03:34AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tofu She's a spoilt, rude, brat who has no consideration for anyone else's feelings. I personally feel that she acts as if only her can be perfect and through that the rest of the world should be too. She doesn't see the people of her kingdom as people but instead as 'subjects' for her to do with as she pleases. I haven't finished the book... but I hate it. I see that she gets her genes from Maxon's father who was by far the worst character ever created and it generally pisses me off.

Cecilia Morin I dislike Eadlyn. Her personality is to annoying and she doesn't get what surrounds her. She doesn't understand people and she doesn't know how to deal with them. She makes changes that are so stupid that I am disappointed in her!

LeatheHatless For me Eadlyn was a great character with a lot of dept. I think people are not reading in fully.

When she says things like, I am strong, I can do this, I don't need them, etc... To me it doesn't sound arrogant or cocky because it's not bragging. Eadlyn seems to me a very anxious person. That is her way of dealing with stress.

I suffer from very bad anxiety and when I am put on a very though spot I tend to do the same. I focus inwards and try to do peep talk because If I focus on what is happening I will spin out of control.

I think she is seeing that things are happening to fast and getting out of control and she doesn't know what to do anymore. She is pretty much forced on something against her beliefs, that diminish her value as a person. How hard is that?

(I know I am biased but that's what I felt)

To be honest Maxxon and Ahren are much worse.

One for being incompetent on how to rule is country. Man so many things you could do! Make a summit with the rebelious, let them feel they are a part of the solution. Get them alternatives. Find a way to make the transition easier. I dunno.

I get that we don't know how things are and what he did but c'mon! The Selection worked because his dad was a freaking tyrant! It made people believe they had a chance to improve their lifes by playing that twisted game! How did he not grasped this!

The only thing he did was making his daughter an easy target and pushed her unnecessarily to the line of fire, WTH?

Oh... And don't let me start on f. Ahren that just became a major asshole because she asked him if he was sure he wanted something. Sure, totally called for..

message 25: by Nithya (new)

Nithya I HATE EADLYN! I haven't finished the books, but I thought Eadlyn was terrible. She was rude, uncivilized, bratty, spoilt rotten, superior, self-centered, inconsiderate, condescending and made me regret buying the books.

I know a lot of authors are going on about how 'strong' and 'modern' their characters are but they take it to the extreme. It is NOT acceptable for people to behave badly. Men being rude to women is an outrage, but the other way around and the women are goddesses. Feminism is not an excuse to be rude.

It annoys me so much!!!

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

eadlyn was indeed rude and she was really confused plus a little selfish and thought too highly of herself

message 27: by Lily (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lily Eadlyn, is kinda rude, but no one deserves to have food thrown at them!!!!

By the way, who do you think Eadlyn will end up with?
And do you think America (Eadlyn's mother) will live or die?
I really hope she lives!! :)

Lisa Ramos Nithya wrote: "I HATE EADLYN! I haven't finished the books, but I thought Eadlyn was terrible. She was rude, uncivilized, bratty, spoilt rotten, superior, self-centered, inconsiderate, condescending and made me r..."

You mean women being rude to men are goddesses while men are to put up with it.

Zlikespasta I can sympathize with the position she's in, but I don't know how well-adjusted parents can have such a snotty little kid. I only saw her open up a little bit at the very end when she gains some self awareness, but I don't know if I believe her decision to be kinder and less snobby.

Zlikespasta Sara wrote: "For me Eadlyn was a great character with a lot of dept. I think people are not reading in fully.

There's nothing wrong with her pep talks, and the position she's in is difficult. I don't think she's not a complicated character, either, but she's still awful. Being under pressure doesn't excuse the fact that she constantly lashes out at the people around her, namely the selected. She also doesn't know how to relate to or emphasize with the people around her and doesn't try to.

Natalie At the beginning I definitely thought she was self-centered, cold, and just a brat. It was even worse in contrast with America! But throughout the two books in her pov, I think she became a much better person. She matured so much, and saw the needs of others higher than her own by the end. (Like the end with Kile and her announcement at the end).

message 32: by Kate (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kate Yang I haven’t finished the book yet. And the reason I’m here is because I think Eadlyn is so rude and self-cantered and wanna check if anyone feels the same lol. I’m pissed off by her attitude and can’t bear to read it anymore, but I have to finish it!!

Cassie 'The Thinker Go Go Go Go' Mis. Roben Goodfellow'\Isabelle Lightwood I've started on The Crown, the last book. About half way through it or so. But I agree, in this one she was very rude to be honest and don't get me wrong. I like outspoken women in books. But she was a bit.... over the top and bratty. I didn't really care for her, but in this one so far (The Crown) she seems okay so far sure she still has her moments but it's tolerable.

Nargis bro yes I am annoyed with her, she does seem rude, but gets better later on

message 35: by Alia (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alia Abbas omg she was so annoying i guess she got better at the end but also did anyone feel that america was completely out of her character in this book?

Cassie 'The Thinker Go Go Go Go' Mis. Roben Goodfellow'\Isabelle Lightwood Alia wrote: "omg she was so annoying i guess she got better at the end but also did anyone feel that america was completely out of her character in this book?"

Me. She seemed different in this one ( America) . But then again I guess sense she got older she would be a little different. Seeing as she has so many kids and also the job of being Queen and age... it can sometimes change people but I did feel that way too.

Keily I kinda did, a few months ago I read this last one and no, I don't hate eadlyn but it was someone with whom I never felt that reader-character connection, and I think in the end eadlyn makes a "responsible" decision to take the throne. But I think that I formed couples, I understand that Kyle did not want to be in the palace and because I did not like Eikko at all, well yes but I am not convinced.
and I feel that Eadlyn behaves like a spoiled child, I like her brother Ahren better, I think that was her name.
that's it

message 38: by Lil (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lil I have never really liked her. She was spoiled, arrogant, and rude and just annoying. It's one of the reasons I did not enjoy The Heir. I was struggling to keep reading because she was pulling all the strings.

message 39: by ShelfIndulgence (new)

ShelfIndulgence Ok, so Eadlyn is stuck up and spoiled. The way she treats those she considers to be below her is seriously rude and condescending. She's selfish and she tries to manipulate her own brother. In short, she's a horrible character. And, just saying, my opinion of her has nothing to do with her gender. As a strong female lead, she's completely entitled to be independent and determined, but what really puts me off is her couldn't-care-less attitude towards other people's feelings. Even when she receives compliments from the candidates, she shuts them down for no apparent reason. She talks down to her own family and to her servants. The way she insulted Neena totally pisses me off.

Erica D`souza Yes

message 41: by Anna (new)

Anna Like I know she was very rude and spoiled but I really liked her from the beginning. I found America very annoying, and yes eadlyn also hav her problems. but I think that the to last books was better than the first three, and eadlyn was better than America

Lauren In the beginning I really did not like her but slowly she became a little better but I still love the original characters way better.

message 43: by WeirdBookWorm07 (new)

WeirdBookWorm07 I did think that Eadlyn was self-centered and spoiled and that made me upset with her character, but I do feel when she kept talking about how she was so powerful because I felt like she needed to feel like she was in control of her stressful situation.

Angie Nikita wrote: "I was annoyed by her too at first. I found her to be spoiled, selfish and bratty but she is a little kind after she finally sees that other people have problems too. But in the end, she grew on me ..."

i agree, in the beginning i was like okay when is this going to change, then she fell in love and i feel like she realized not everything is about her. the love forced her to see other peoples problems, of people she cares about

Mireille ⚡️ Honestly, when I read the last two books of the selection series, I started to really fall out of love with it. I missed America and her selection too much!

Angie she was annoying but i feel like i got to understand her the more i read. she was under a lot of pressure, and being spoiled didn’t help. america and maxon spoiled her because she was their first child and wanted to give her a great life. so by the end she didn’t annoy me anymore the more i understood why she acted the way she did

finnicksluvr im in the middle of "the heir" so imma patiently (kinda) wait for her character devlopment because she's just pissing me off. I'm all for badass mcs who don't need a lover but she's just kind of self absorbed. Yeah she's going to be queen and the pressure is there but that doesn't mean she could be mean to every single person she meets.

Edilene Alves Eu também detestei essa personagem,só não abandonei o livro na esperança d que ela não fosse aquela esnobe e q haveria alguma qualidade nela mas não teve nada d bom, decepção total.

shayna meee! definitely in the heir, she seemed selfish and was just overall on my last nerve! i think this was partially because i compared her to america, who always seemed sweet and kind.

message 50: by Thalia (new)

Thalia Fairley wrote: "Okay, so I'm not finished with this book yet, but so far Eadlyn seems very, very rude. I know some people had a problem with America, and I agree that her indecisiveness was annoying, but at least ..."
I found Eadlyn incredibly selfish, narcissistic, spoiled and annoying. It honestly for me at least, took something away from America and Maxon as characters and parents because they let their daughter grow up to be so ignorant and stuck up. She did improve towards the end but I just couldn't really forget about how she was and how she treated people and talked down to them (like Josie and Kile). Anyone else?
