Would any of you be interested in doing a monthly group read here on PNR/UF?

Basically, we'd have a poll each month to choose a book to read. Members will be able to nominate books, and then the group would vote.

At various points during the month, discussion topics would open up, most likely split up by chapter groupings so readers who haven't made it as far won't have to worry about getting spoiled.

We could focus either on new releases or open up nominations to older books, as well, depending on interest.

Sound like a good idea?

If you've been an active group member for a while and would be interested in helping moderate a book of the month board, please send me a message. :)

Carolyn F. I'd like to.

Theresa Ramseyer | 1 comments I would kind of like to do this, but our local library is small. How about an emphasis on one book, but also a preference for the author, meaning her/his other books are also fair game, with spoiler warnings?

That's the biggest problem I have with fiction group reads. Often the library doesn't have that exact book, but it does have another or more by the same author.

I know about ILL (interlibrary loan), and that may be easier now that the new library system does that automatically, but I can't always/often afford it right now. Things will get better :).

S.K. Munt (wordwhisperer) I would if I was interested in the book :)

Oleander | 94 comments I will participate if I or the library has the book. Another option is to do what Theresa suggested and have an author of the month. People could post their reviews and thoughts on any of that authors books.

Wow, my interlibrary is free. That would suck if I had to pay for it.

Genevieve Guzman (_genevievemarie) | 5 comments I would be interested. I'm new to GoodReads and this group, so it would help me become more active.

Belkis (bminaya) | 861 comments I'd love if we had a monthly group read. All of the other GR groups I'm part of have one or more monthly group reads and I've often wondered why this group doesn't. I participate in our monthly reading challenges already but would love a monthly read as well.

I do like the idea of having the author as an option, so if you can't get the actual book, you can participate in the discussion, too. I would just worry about having a huge number of topics for each month's read and inadvertent spoilers.

How does this sound: each month, we have 2 book choices for the group read, a primary choice and an alternate. If you can't get hold of either of those books, you can choose a book from either of those authors, but before starting discussion of that book, let a moderator know which title you're reading so they can be sure there's a topic for it.

Katherine | 7 comments Hi there. New member of this group, but I'd love to be part of a group read. Would suggest we pick books that are available digitally, as that's how many (if not most) of us get our stories nowadays. Generally more affordable too.

hIpnoticraQs (raqnbelly) | 48 comments Any suggestions?

message 24: by Nessa (new)

Nessa I have been in a reading rut *sad face* so I think a monthly book/author read is a great idea. It would totally help me be more active again lol.

Lanie (Lanies Book Thoughts) (lanieadamsk) | 93 comments Lol, I hate when that happens! I'll pretty much read most things in the uf\pnr genre.

message 26: by Kori (new)

Kori | 7 comments I'd join in a monthly read. But if someone sets it up they should do like a weekly discussion on so many chapters each week. I've been in groups where they have 2 books each month that they list that you "can" talk about but without any real discussion structure usually no one ends up doing it together.

message 27: by hIpnoticraQs (new)

hIpnoticraQs (raqnbelly) | 48 comments I read a lot of series books. Is anyone interested in that? I'm in a reading rut as well :( I did just check out two books by Adrian Phoenix today. The first is a Rush of Wings the second is In The Blood. I also checked out Colleen Gleason's The Vampire Voss, The Vampire Dimitri and The Vampire Narcise. If anyone is interested in reading these that's groovy or they could be something I read until we get everything straightened out. I like the idea of a weekly discussion also. Monthly would be too easy to forget.

Kori | 7 comments We have all been talking but no ones really decided...... why dont we post some books we are all interested in and vote for one then set up a thread for the book and post what chapters we will discuss each week? I can get it all set up if no one else wants to or if someone wants to help me with it that would be great too. So who is all in? And ill get a thread going that we can start voting on some books. Just list your name and email so I know who is really serious about it.

Sounds like a good idea - I will nominate a book once the thread is up :0)

B. Hughes-Millman (bhughes-millman) | 2 comments I see that there was a suggestion to start a group read. I belong to another group that does this quite successfully. Is there still any interest in making this an ongoing topic?

B. I think that most people decided that the monthly challenges were sufficient and this topic never really got anywhere.
