Monthly Group Read... any interest?

That's the biggest problem I have with fiction group reads. Often the library doesn't have that exact book, but it does have another or more by the same author.
I know about ILL (interlibrary loan), and that may be easier now that the new library system does that automatically, but I can't always/often afford it right now. Things will get better :).

Wow, my interlibrary is free. That would suck if I had to pay for it.

I do like the idea of having the author as an option, so if you can't get the actual book, you can participate in the discussion, too. I would just worry about having a huge number of topics for each month's read and inadvertent spoilers.
How does this sound: each month, we have 2 book choices for the group read, a primary choice and an alternate. If you can't get hold of either of those books, you can choose a book from either of those authors, but before starting discussion of that book, let a moderator know which title you're reading so they can be sure there's a topic for it.

Sounds like a good idea - I will nominate a book once the thread is up :0)

B. I think that most people decided that the monthly challenges were sufficient and this topic never really got anywhere.
Basically, we'd have a poll each month to choose a book to read. Members will be able to nominate books, and then the group would vote.
At various points during the month, discussion topics would open up, most likely split up by chapter groupings so readers who haven't made it as far won't have to worry about getting spoiled.
We could focus either on new releases or open up nominations to older books, as well, depending on interest.
Sound like a good idea?
If you've been an active group member for a while and would be interested in helping moderate a book of the month board, please send me a message. :)
