Evan (sampsom) | 578 comments I like space. It makes me happy the thought that there are billions of miles left undiscovered. I was born in the wrong generation but I would love to see space being colonised and planets being tera formed to hold human civilisations. So yes they should spend more money but not just U.S.A the European countries and all others!

Som Yep Evan the whole world should fund them; think it's always of a great importance; greater than we realize. We're in continual search for a spare habitat; since it's evident that our planet will eventually decimate after running out most the life providing resources (my prediction: by 2060 tops); we should expand our chances of finding one; only elite technology can provide you that futuristic platform. And NASA has been proving it. As for providing scientific alternatives of life preservation resources; our science isn't advanced enough for that; prognosis remains, that it wont be that advanced even after 50-60 years.
Reminds me of my seminar topic about construction of 'Lunar structures' and possibilities of establishing life in Moon...(it was basically a fail in the 'life' part haha)

OT: There's 'A' difference between NASA and NSA (pun of choices lol), one's evil and one's a hope....It's the NSA's snooping that must not continue...

Shweta I don't know if America should continue spending money on NASA or not but I definitely think they should reduce the amount they spend. There are BILLIONS of dollars spent on NASA on a yearly basis and I feel that America should take a great deal of the money they spent on years of exploration and findings and use that money to better their country and help their people. The billions that is being spent on sending satellites and technologies into space could be better used to provide better support for those living in poverty, provide better health care services, etc.

Assuming that the world is a lost cause and instead of trying to fix it and help its people, spend a great deal of money and resources on finding another place? I don't know, I personally don't like that idea in the slightest.

Xdyj | 127 comments On the other hand, had it not been for NASA, ESA as well as the space program of the Soviets, we probably would not have the global telecommunication & navigation system we have today, and our abilities in dealing with natural disasters would be much more limited. A lot of programs in NASA are not just about developing techniques for space travel, but also about researches on climate change, biosphere, solar wind etc. which do directly benefit our everyday life.

Besides that, information gathered from various NASA programs is crucial for our understanding of the most fundamental physical laws, which may some day lead to the next technological revolution & completely change our way of life.

Also, the annual budget of NASA is negligible when compared with those illegitimate & disastrous foreign wars the US fought in recent years & is still fighting now. The Iraq war alone costs more than 10 times as much as NASA over the last decade.

You bring up some good points and I can completely understand where you are coming from. However, I never denied that NASA has made a huge contribution to American society. I can understand that NASA is in charge of some very important things which is why I would say that the fund for them shouldn't be discontinued completely. But I just feel that not all research NASA does holds more importance over the well being of their citizens.

That being said, I can recognize that the Iraq war has cost the States A LOT of money, just as NASA has however, I do not know enough to be able to make a fair statement on that. So my apologies for that, but I still stand by the fact that NASA's fund should be reduced slightly and more should be put towards the people and their well being.

Just so ya know, guys. NASA isn't just about space."
