The Red Knight was really awesome! I can't wait to read
The Fell Sword, when it comes out Dec. 19th.
Even if it means, I can't read along the Fantasy pick in December, but The Red Knight should be read by way more people, so it has my vote and full support. :)

The Lies of Locke Lamora

(hopefully this has not been read yet, didn't see it after a quick search)

I have that borrowed from a neighbour! have been meaning to read and return for a while now

message 9: by John (last edited Nov 11, 2013 12:07PM) (new)

John (johnred) I'll nominate Dune one more time for Sci-Fi...hopefully I am not the only person who has not read it yet :)

Freya (flamecat) | 1835 comments Mod
John and Roger, if it hasn't been a BotM before then you can certainly nominate it - even if many of us have read them there will be some who haven't and we can always either re-read it and/or join in the discussion so no worries :)

I'm going for Rivers of London, i accidentally bought the sequel Moon Over Soho and i just have to read the first one first!

Yup, only other rule apart from that is that it must not have been nominated the month before. So if something you want to nominate for December was nominated for November, you'll have to wait til January to nominate it again =)

Also, weirdest thing: I tried to add Rivers of London to the list and it just doesn't appear. Had to do it manually, dunno what happened there o.o

It's because It used to be called Midnight Riot, why must they change names!

Ooh, and good nomination Freya, i just bought Seeds of Earth for £1 today, good timing!

I think it's a US/UK publishing thing. It was called "Rivers of London" in the UK, but the US publisher feared that the title would scare american readers off (what is really stupid in my opinion and doesn't seem at all to fit into my view of the american readers I know from here).

So it was called Midnight Riot in the US.

And Seeds of the Earth is a book I wanted to read for quite a while. Interesting books to choose from so far. :)

Hehe cheers guys - It's been sitting on my shelves for a while, so I thought it might be due a recommendation! :D

message 16: by Antonis (new)

Antonis (antonakis) | 62 comments I wanted to nominate both a fantasy and a SF book, then I realized we can only nominate one.. so ok I said.. I'll go with fantasy! My first option from my to-read pile was Throne of the Crescent Moon but then I realized that it was nominated for November so it will have to wait. Next was Range of Ghosts but I will wait to nominate that for January as another reading group I'm part of will be reading it then. So... maybe I should pick a SF title instead... I must have a little time to think about that! :D Sorry I'm thinking out aloud, I do it often! :p I think I will have to wait for my nomination just a couple of days longer...

message 17: by Douglas (new)

Douglas (douglascfisher) | 34 comments Like the nominations enough to not add anything this month. :)

We decided that runners up wouldn't be included automatically anymore but you can nominate the book after a month had passed - e.g nominated in oct didn't win, you can nominate it In December again. Allows more variety and voting :)

message 19: by Adam (new)

Adam (amilesb) | 35 comments Seeds of the Earth looks really good!!! I've also picked back up where I left off in the middle of the Dune series so I'd love to see some discussions there too!

Sorry you feel that way Darren, we're just trying to give as many people as possible the chance to vote for new books each month. You're more than welcome to vote for a book again, but by giving a month break means that a variety of books can be voted for each month! Hope that makes sense... feel free to discuss here if you're still not happy :)

I'm not sure how it's 'cruel'... we've experimented with several ways of nominating and this seems to work, as it means we get different nominations every month and we don't have too many nominations at once.

You're more than welcome to renominate Imajica for January if you wish =)

message 22: by Hilary (new)

Hilary I'm going for Rivers of London.

message 23: by Tom (new)

Tom | 216 comments A Crucible of Souls
had this on my shelf for a while now thinking of reading it when I finish the heroes

message 24: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I nominate Warbreaker

message 25: by Kyle (last edited Nov 13, 2013 11:30PM) (new)

Kyle (kmucha31) | 42 comments Oh goodness, someone nominated Ilium? That book is incredibly mature and hard to follow. Or it could be because I read it when I was 13 XD

Edit**
I also nominate Theft of Swords for Fantasy

Hey Andreea, you can only nominate one book from one of the genres, sci-fi or fantasy :)

Which would you like to nominate this month?

Yep, I did - I love the Iliad, and I love sci-fi, plus Dan Simmons' Hyperion Cantos is AMAZING so I'm slightly excited to read Ilium at some point =D

message 30: by Antonis (last edited Nov 14, 2013 06:59AM) (new)

Antonis (antonakis) | 62 comments I would like to nominate The Hammer by K.J. Parker but I don't know if I'm eligible to do so, seeing that there are already 7 nominations for fantasy and Andrea hasn't replied yet.
EDIT: You know what, scratch the above, there are already way too many good fantasy reads up there! I will make matters simple both for me and Andrea above by nominating Ancillary Justice myself so that Andrea can nominate the other one! :)

message 35: by James (last edited Nov 17, 2013 05:22AM) (new)

James Chalk (james_chalk) Is it okay to nominate my own book? The Meat Market for science fiction. If that is against the rules or too arrogant and pushy please disregard this post.

message 36: by Kyle (new)

Kyle (kmucha31) | 42 comments Sounds fine to me James. When I would go onto the /r/Fantasy subreddit and ask for book suggestions, I loved when book authors told me about their own books while still suggesting what they were reading currently. If you think your book is pretty good, no reason why you should keep it to yourself.

I'm afraid one of our rules is that authors cannot nominate their own books. Sorry!

message 38: by James (last edited Nov 17, 2013 05:58AM) (new)

James Chalk (james_chalk) No problem, sorry for breaking the rule :)
I have a nomination for a science fiction book not written by me or anyone I know. I discovered this book a few years ago. I greatly enjoyed it and all of the sequels.

Keeping It Real (Quantum Gravity, Book 1) by Justina Robson

Keeping It Real

Ah, this is where GR notification system proves a pain... I'll have to remove James' nomination and add the other two I'm afraid, as they were first and it's a max of 8.
