Sean O'Hara (seanohara) | 2365 comments Attack on Titan's the bestselling graphic novel in the country right now, topping even The Walking Dead, so I figure I can't be the only one here reading it.

(For those who aren't, it's a series about humans battling a race of man-eating giants. The soldiers are equipped with grappling hooks and steampunk jetpacks that allow them to fly up and attack the titans from above like an army of Spidermen.)

I'll admit the art is kinda bad at times, but man the story never lets up. I just finished volume 8 and the last twenty pages with (view spoiler)

I really enjoyed the anime and I'm not sure if it will get a sequel at this point and things left off in a pretty terrible place, so I may try to check this out at some point.

Mikasa is one of my favorite female characters in anime in a long long time.

John (Nevets) Nevets (nevets) | 1900 comments Wow, That looks like my kind of story. I see Funimation has the subed anime on there site. Can I assume they have the US distribution rights and may be releasing a subed version? I just watched the fist couple of minutes of the first episode and the animation art style reminds me a bit of Ego Proxy.

It's funny I like western comics, and Japanese anime, but with just a few exceptions, I've never really got into manga.

Sean, looks like another great recommendation.

Aildiin | 150 comments I picked the first volume on the kindle last night( volume 1-8 are released and 9-11 can be preordered), I am planning to read it tonight.

Tamahome | 7216 comments I was going to check it out, but my Goodreads friend Sean O'Hara only gave it three stars.

Nixi (competine) | 28 comments Does the anime follow the manga story? Because I've seen it, and I don't know if it's worth reading too, especially if it's exactly the same. And, although I love graphic novels and some comics, it's really hard for me to get into reading mangas, since they have 'million' chapters, and usually really slow starts.

Aildiin | 150 comments I read the manga and watched the first 2 anime shows and they covered exactly the first half of the book.
That being said in my mind the anime is better than the manga due to art ( very good in the anime, uneven in the manga).

I had not realized this before by the way but mangas on the Kindle store are actually very nicely priced, especially those published by Viz media..

That's just the first volume. It gets much better as the story progresses, especially once Levi, Hange and Potato Girl join the cast.

Subbed and dubbed. I fully expect it'll run on Cartoon Network at some point.

Sky Corbelli | 352 comments I started off watching the anime and immediately picked up the manga because... well, if you've watched the show, you'll understand.

So, I got the first volume, read it, and decided that I'd prefer waiting for the anime to tell the story; the art was often just slightly too painful for me to continue. The story, of course, is fantastic, so if you can't wait to find out what happens next it would probably be a wise investment.

As do I. Are they still editing out blood and gore, like they did back in the Gundam Wing days? Because that would be HILARIOUS.

Aildiin | 150 comments I might have spoken too soon earlier in this thread.
While the first 2 shows of the anime followed strictly what happens in the book it isn't the case anymore with the third show. The show focused on the cadet training whereas in the manga just jumps straight to the ceremony at the end of the cadet training and shows you nothing about that training...
