Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11457 comments Chuckled at your title.

message 7: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Thanks, everyone was being so clever and I couldn't think of anything better. :)

message 8: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Hi Dawn, I just noticed you were here too. :)

message 9: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I came to check it out when I saw you sign up and it looked like a great challenge, so I put my thread up too. :)

message 10: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I am so looking forward to this one! Glad you're here too since I'll be leaving tbb in January. :)

message 11: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I'll be joining you in that exodus in January. It's really only been the challenge keeping me there.

This one will be fun and I don't have to keep track of points! :)

Are you doing the Mount TBR challenge again?? I've signed up for fewer books in 2014 but I'm still gonna try it.

message 12: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm sure you are happy to be done with points! You probably have nightmares. ;)

I won't be doing that other group again, in fact I already left it. I'm just going to focus on the challenges in this group.

message 13: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments There are lots of challenges here. I'm tempted to try a couple others during the year so we should meet up in a few places here! :)

It also seems like a friendly group.

message 14: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm sure we will! :)

message 15: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Blind Assassin is an all-time favorite, Dawn. I hope you enjoy it. Ooh, and Woman in White too! Great looking lists.

message 16: by Tasha (new)

Tasha The Name of the Wind is on my tbr too.

message 17: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I have no doubt I'm gonna love Blind Assassin, Margaret Atwood is a fantastic writer.

And The Name of the Wind keeps coming up as such a good book that I figured I better get around to reading it. :)

message 18: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm pretty sure Blind Assassin is on my list too.

message 19: by Tasha (new)

Tasha yep, it's there. :)

message 20: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I've been trying to read it for a year so this is a very good reason to actually get past the first chapter!

message 21: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Hahaha, true, :)

message 22: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I keep doing the same thing. I look through all the other lists and find books I've been wanting to read, my challenge will be 100 long pretty soon and I don't think I can read that many! :)

message 23: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments lol. I've been wanting to get to that book for awhile also! :D

message 24: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Tasha and I were supposed to get to it a few months back but we kept getting sidetracked by other books. I thought I'd still give it a try though.

message 25: by Tasha (new)

Tasha yep, that's true. :)

I had a hard time getting to it but I may give it a try again sometime but probably not this coming year.

message 26: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I'm gonna try and read 1 classic a month again next year. It makes me feel more sophisticated and educated! :)

message 27: by Tasha (new)

Tasha hahaha, I totally understand. I'm taking a break this year... ;)

message 28: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments That's my goal too Dawn...one classic a month.

message 29: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments One a month seems achievable, though I didn't do so well at the end of this year. :)

Do you pick older classics or modern classics Marnie??

message 30: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments I'm going to start with The Fellowship of the Ring but I I think I will do a mix of both. Apparently The Woman in White is a must read for me based on the strong recommendations from friends here.

What is your January Classic ?

message 31: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood is on for January.

I have The Woman in White as my fifth for the year, I also added it based on a couple friends rec's. And The Fellowship of the Ring is sitting in my list of Chunkster Hopefuls so I might get to it this year sometime too.

message 32: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Blind Assassin and Woman in White. Wow. I wish I could reread those again for the first time!

message 33: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I know the feeling. :)

I think Blind Assassin will be the first book I start in the New Year.

message 34: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Nice choice! Dying to see what you think. It takes a bit to get your bearings with that one, but not too long. Loved Iris!!

message 35: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Sounds better and better. I love a well written book that's a bit difficult. :)

message 36: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments It's a bit of a puzzle and you need to pay attention to the details. This one may be right up your alley, it sounds like. :)

message 37: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Judy wrote: "Lol. Are you finding that you enjoy reading them? Any favorites?"

I am enjoying them, quite a lot but I always put them off to read something easier and faster. I have 4 favorites from 2013:
War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell
The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins
&
The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James

message 38: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments I have got to try Portrait of a Lady. I keep hearing good things.

message 39: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I was not expecting to like it as all and then ended up giving it 5 stars. Tasha liked it too if I remember right??

message 40: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Yes, I really enjoyed Portrait. :)

message 41: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Those ones were all audiobooks. I've tried a variety of different genres in audio and only like classics or mysteries in that format. So I listen to quite a few of them. Classics almost feel like they were made to be read aloud, at least it seems like that to me. :)

It took me two months of commuting to get through 60 hours of War & Peace.

message 42: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Damn, I had 30 chunksters all picked out and connected. Then I went to the library and found We, the Drowned by Carsten Jensen, I shall have to fit that into my first 6 somewhere....

message 43: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Probably wont be the last time ;)

message 44: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments True, I was hoping to stick to the first 6 but I can't even stick to the first 1! :)

message 45: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I see it in your first 6. Did you already fit it in? That was quick... :)

message 46: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Yep, I have two #6's right now, I'll have to move a few books over to the next posts but thought I'd wait and see if I add any more before I do!

message 47: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments I had to switch one of mine too. I sure do enjoy the flexibility of this challenge!

message 48: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I have had to add your #1 book to my TBR list. I was talking to a friend at work today and he mentioned it. I have to keep telling myself not to change things yet. N-o-t y-e-t.... ☺

message 49: by Tasha (new)

Tasha don't forget to update the book covers. :)

message 50: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Marnie wrote: "I had to switch one of mine too. I sure do enjoy the flexibility of this challenge!"

Me too!!
If there was no flexibility I would be hooped. I never can stick to my picks, something else always catches my eye or fits with a mood.
