Here are the obstacles for each week. Keep the books as close as possible to the finish and start date. Some exceptions can be made, but the point of this challenge is to play the GAME and each week has a new thing to do!

THE WEEKS

Week 1: Dec 31-Jan 7
Free For All
Any book, any genre!

Week 2: Jan 7-Jan 14
Male Author
Male Author's only!

Week 3: Jan 14-21
Fiction
Fiction. Any book

Week 4: Jan 21-28
Fiction
Fiction. Any book

Week 5: Jan 28-Feb 4
Book-To-Film
Popular right now! Many new books being turned into a screenplay. Must be one that has already been in theaters

Week 6: Feb 4-11
Free For All
Any book, any genre!

Week 7: Feb 11-18
Female Author
Female Authors only!

Week 8: Feb 18-25
Off a Friends “To Be Read” List
Pick a friend and find a book!

Week 9: Feb 25- Mar 4
A Genre You Wouldn’t Necessarily Read
Doesn't have to be a genre you dislike, but a genre that you don't go after. If you only read fiction, try a non-fiction or a biography. If you like historical, try a mystery or fantasy novel!

Week 10: Mar 4-11
A Book Off Your Shelf
Can be a re-read or a new read, but you must own it (e-books are fine too!)

Week 11: Mar 11-18
A Book Off Your Shelf
Can be a re-read or a new read, but you must own it (e-books are fine too!)

Week 12: Mar 18- 25
Read Favorite Author
Re-read or new read, but read your favorite author!

Week 13: Mar 25- Apr 1
Free For All
Any book, any genre!

Hi Lindy,

There are three ways of calculating who wins the Winter Games:

1. Books: the number of books are counted to reach the final score;
2. Pages: the number of pages read by all team members is calculated so that a final score is reached;
3. Points (taken straight from Rachel's post): each book is a total of one point, with the exception of books over 500+ pages they are 2 points. In the events of a tie, points are the last way to see how the team wins, its a sort of just-in-case.

Does this help?

Lindy (lindylee) Since I am blind I mostly have to read big print or deal with some kind of magnifier, do large print pages count or only small print?

Rachel can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see that reading large print books should be a problem. I also read large print books sometimes not because I'm blind but because I find the large print easier to read at times.

Lindy (lindylee) It does get easier as you age, but my viosion is 20/200 blind.

Lindy (lindylee) Maybe we coudl work on it before the challenge startys when we have more time. I need explicit directions, nothing lelft out.

Lindy-

Large books are accepted. You just need to reference the book and author. Your team will collectively help figure things out. Keep a running log on your teams board so you and your team can calculate it with you.

Rachel (hrhrach) | 82 comments I'd think the same way we fig out all to be fair is the good reads version has how many pages the (hardcover I think) book is and so we go with that, I'm just in the door and I'll go to full site n post logs n templates for my challenges.

sam (samlo28) | 37 comments Since the end of a week and the beginning of the following week overlap does that mean a book for either obstacle works at that time? Like for January 7th, can I read any book and/or male authors? (The any book obstacle doesn't give the best example but I think/hope it makes sense.)

message 11: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hrhrach) | 82 comments If I understand your question, and I'm just helping til the pros can help ya but I believe the answer is if you're not done with the wk ending that day's then I'd finish that first ASAP (but its understood sometimes life gets in the way and so Rachel's said just keep it as close to start n end dates as possible bc that's part of the game.)
In that case when u DO finish wk ending the 7th YOUd start the male author. But if you're done today then male author starts today. If you have all day to read and wanted to get another any book in and start male author later in the day that's certainly your prerogative. I think its more about staying on sched and reading a book that fits the criteria for each wk than quantity in this game tho.
Idk if that helps at ALL or if I misunderstood the question which is possible. If so Rachel will be along! Just trying to lend a hand:0) happy reading!

sam (samlo28) | 37 comments Got it! I just wasn't sure because week one ends today and week two starts today, so I figured I'd ask. Thanks Rachel!

message 13: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hrhrach) | 82 comments Yeah its good we have some overlap so if someone isn't done they have today toward wherever its needed!!

Yes that exactly correct! The dates a re just little guidelines, not necessarily a hard date that you MUST complete it by. It overlaps to give everyone time to finish the previous weeks books and begin the next weeks!
