I just got this book. I'll join you guys. Have any of you started shatter me yet?

I can't believe you guys haven't read this book yet. I mean its publication was like a year ago. I love this book so much. You guys will run into Tahereh Mafi's beautiful prose. It's extraordinary.

I just stared it the other night, so please feel free to join in! So far I'm really liking the plot. The prose is just taking a little time to get used to.

Pretty good so far. The writing is really good and creative. But... the constant strikethroughs are kind of annoying. What are they supposed to mean? The plot looks good. just testing this hide spoiler thing out LOL <\spoiler>

Chapter 4

Really good so far. Juliette seems to be good at keeping track of things! She has a good memory for numbers. Really like this book!

Ok, I am LOVING this book! I like Juliette's character and the way the other developed her. But I am starting to hate Warner. Looks like he is willing to do a lot (including kill people) to get power. (view spoiler)[ He killed Fletcher, and he forced Juliette to hurt Jenkins (hide spoiler)] The story is finally getting somewhere!

59%, I'm gonna continue reading tonight. Hopefully I'll finish it later or tomorrow.

(view spoiler)[ Warner is such a jerk. I can't stand him. I really like Adam. The prose is nice but I hate the strikethrough that happens in almost every chapter. It really takes away from the writing, as does the repetition of phrases in some of the sentences. Aside from that though, I think the plot is really good and it definitely picks up some more once you get halfway through! (hide spoiler)]

I loved Mafi's writing pose. I don't know how to say this in words, but something about her writing was sad. It gave me a sad feeling. It portrayed Juliette's desperation and loneliness very well.

There were many repeated words, run on sentences, and phrases without commas separating them. I thought this was very creative. It also hinted at Juliette's desperation. It made me feel for her.

Even after finishing the book, I still have no idea why some sentences were crossed out. I am guessing these are things that are true, but Juliette doesn't want to admit to herself.

I think there are two themes in this book: hope and loneliness. All her 17 years of life, she has never been touched. Everybody, including her parents, hated her. She has been isolated for 264 days. How much more lonely could her life get? The story also showed how important hope is. By the end of the book, she was happy and her ability didn't get in the way of her life. Also, she found other people just like her. She could finally feel like a human being.

My favorite character would probably be Adam.

Mafi's writing prose took me a little while to get used to, but once I did, it was absolutely beautiful. Sad would definitely be a good work to describe it. I also think Mafi did a great job at painting vivid pictures. At some points though I found the repetition to be annoying and unnecessary. I get the point she was trying to make, but it wasn't always necessary.

Aside from that though, it was a really intriguing story. I just didn't enjoy how it jumped from absolutely no action, to non-stop action. I found it a little overwhelming at first. I really did like the characters though. Adam is my favorite too! I'm just surprised Juliette was so quick to trust him when she's spent her whole life being weary of people. It was abrupt how Adam went from ignoring her to telling her that he's in love with her. I don't know how Juliette entirely trusted him. Regardless of that though, it was a nice read.

Yes, Adam's love of Juliette was a little too abrupt. The story would be stronger if the author developed Adam and showed the readers how he changed his mind about Juliette.

Overall, this story was an interesting read. I am willing to find out what happens next. Are you going to read the sequel? I might, I am not sure yet.

I agree. I was looking for more character development for Adam. Regardless thought I really loved Adan's character and I want to see him grow more.
I think I'm going to read the sequel because I want to see what happens next and how the characters further develop.

I agree with the issue about the prose of the story. At first, I was really frustrated with it that I almost wanted to throw it away. But once the beauty of it dawned on me, I was smiling like an idiot. I was thinking, "How could I think that it's abominable and exhausting?" It made me even smile wider when I realized how Mafi's writing style resembles Shakespeare. I know, I know. A lot of people would provoke that opinion. Well, here's the thing: I DON'T GIVE A DAMN! Because that's how her writing approaches me. I hope you guys would get your hands on the sequel, Unravel Me, as soon as possible. Oh and the novella Destroy Me, it is told in Warner's point of view. It is a short fiction occurring between the first book and second book of the trilogy.

@Jimbo Yes I agree! So am I supposed to read unravel me or destroy me next? Which one came out first?

Anyways, I have never read Shakespeare before but I can imagine that happening.

After Shatter Me, you need to read Destroy Me. Well, not "need" really. Because it's very optional. But to answer your question, Destroy Me came out first before Unravel Me. So I guess you have to follow the chronology of the story because of that. :D And after you read the novella Destroy Me and the 2nd book Unravel Me, you have to read another novella entitled Fracture Me (told in Adam's point of view) before you delve in the last book of the trilogy Ignite Me, for which, for the information of everyone, will be coming out next year of February. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Started! Only a few chapters in. I just love the writing style. How there are parts crossed out. Makes it fun to read!

When you get the time, I think you will get through this very quick. It's definitely a page turner!

(view spoiler)[The introduction of Omega Point as an underground resistance was interesting but quite a late addition to the story. Kenji's appearance was quite sudden because we only read of him once before he revealed himself at Adam's place.

Still have no idea what power Adam has! He probably has the same power as Warner.

The last chapter had me laughing. It was kind of comic how she had to wear a purple suit that made her look like a gymnast/superhero. The boys ogling at her made it even funnier.

I have read it before I want to read the newest in the series. I always have to read all the books in a series before I move on to the newest book.

Yes I definitely enjoyed the book but it didn't wow me... I like it but i couldn't help comparing it to other dystopians I've read and I didn't find it as impressive. I will be reading unravel me though :)
