I agree with you Becky, the story really was heartbreaking. Rhett and Scarlet were both so prideful and guarded! I imagine what they might have had if the war had not scarred them so deeply...

I'd feel a little sorry for Ashley and Scarlett for their innocent encounter if they hadn't brought it all on themselves the entire time. I think they're deserving of the scorn they're getting.
I still think, though, even though Rhett and Scarlett are obviously made for each other, that they are living in a mutually detrimental, destructive relationship. They are violent and cruel to each other, a classic abusive relationship, although in their case I guess it just hides deep emotions. If they were constantly taking out on each other in passion, it would be a post Civil War-era 50 Shades of Gray (which is not a compliment). Still, you can't help but root for them.

Yes I kind agree with this except I think Rhett Butler really truly cares for Scarlett and it is Scarlett who is more like Christian Gray an overgrown child who will mistreat abuse and bully anyone who they think might care about them.
On this note though this is so tragic and so easily preventable if they had just found a way to be honest with each other.
