A guess - Six-Week Start-Up: A Step-By-Step Program for Starting Your Business, Making Money, and Achieving Your Goals! by Rhonda Abrams?

the book is less flashy- it's a simple, plainly written read, fairly short (maybe 100-150 pages tops), and explains common mistakes that employees make when starting their own business (mainly, thinking that they can either a) delegate without managing, or b) do all the work themselves).

I think you are looking for:
The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It
by Michael E. Gerber.
Is that it? :)
And, if you are opening a business, good luck! I hope it's a success.

the book recommends developing checklists that detail everything each employee does. one example is of a hotel that takes all your preferences into account during your first stay, and then in every subsequent stay, the newspaper you like (Times, Journal, etc.) is waiting for you each morning, the bed is turned down the way you like, there is a chocolate on the pillow every day, etc.
does anyone know what this book is?
