This is the UK cover I like the purple better! I don't know why they changed the covers and so drastically too!

It reminds me of what they did with this one!

I really like it. I like Maureen Johnson's writing style. She's very smart and funny.

I just finished ch 5.

and it's kind of scary (view spoiler)[ but interesting to think it's a ghost or something...but it can't be right? Right? ...... (hide spoiler)]

and the police guy (view spoiler)[ the guy who looked like a police but didn't "look" like a policeman. Is he a paranormal ghost hunter?? (hide spoiler)] I really like this one so far. I can't wait to see what you guys think!

I just finished chapter 15 too.
(view spoiler)[At first I thought Jerome might be a red herring, but now I'm starting to suspect him. He's a little too into tracking the Ripper crimes. And he seemed really unsettled when he heard that Rory saw the suspect.
I hope we see more of that guy she met in the library, is he a ghost? I'm waiting for the supernatural element of this story to kick in. (hide spoiler)]

I just finished chapter 24.
(view spoiler)[We had a new roommate character introduced. Boo, she seemed annoying but it turns out she's involved in the ghost stuff. I was really surprised that she's not a teenager, she's just posing as one. She really acts like one.
The ghost stuff finally is coming up.
I like how Boo got Alistair to do Rory's homework for her. I hope he comes back, I like him. I also hope Callum and Stephen start being nicer to Rory.
I liked the story about Uncle David and the Parakeets, I wonder if Uncle David will be involved in later books. Maybe he can see ghosts, and that's why he's sort of off?
This section ended on a cliffhanger. Poor Boo, I hope she's OK. (hide spoiler)]

okay, I'm 30 chapters in

OMG, so there is a pretty big section on Jack the Ripper history. If you are interested and can stomach it, I spent a good amount of time looking up the information they gave. it was interesting

I am at chapter 15. Holy wow, what a creepy story.

This book makes my list of firsts with - first book to make me jump because it's so creepy/scary. In fact I jumped twice during chapter 12. My boyfriend laughed at me.

It was so scary when they were sneaking back in and the bald guy talked to Rory. Is he a ghost? But that is too obvious. Jessica has a good point about Alastair, if there are ghosts it would be him (Jerome didn't acknowledge him) and the bald guy (Jazza didn't see him). And I guess Rory is the only one who can see the ghosts.

I don't like Jerome. And I really hope Alastair is real. I like him. (hide spoiler)]

I'm done! OMG this one is so good. I totally agree Mandiann, the atmosphere and story are just so consuming you literally lose track of outside of the book and JUMP at the scary parts!

I finished the book. I really liked it. It has a fast paced, thriller, sort of feel to it.

(view spoiler)[And I like how Johnson left a little cliffhanger at the end. Somehow Rory can banish ghosts without those machines the shades use. Maybe because the machines are gone, or because she was there when Jo and the Ripper were banished.
I still don't like Jerome. I think Stephen and Collum are interesting, their backstories were pretty sad.
I was surprised at how much I came to like most of the characters. Especially Boo, she started out so annoying, but I really liked her by the end.
Now that the characters are set up, I really want to read the sequel. I have it on order from the library. (hide spoiler)]

I am really enjoying this book. Not only has it made me so wound up and scared that I jumped because I was startled, it has also made me laugh out loud.

I loved it! Such a great book!! I am definitely in for book two.
