Trixie | 93 comments I read this in college, around 1992 or 1993. I seem to remember flames on the cover, but it might have been just red, yellow, and black wavy designs.

There is a woman who is divorcing a mean man, and he's involved in genetic experimentation. He wants revenge on his soon-to-be ex-wife and her new boyfriend (I think) and he turns into kind-of a werewolf, maybe by accident.

I don't remember much, not the names of the characters or the title or author. I do seem to remember that when the wife went back to her husband's place to get something, he had purposely not dusted where she had left her keys, as a sort of petty reminder to her when she came back, and that when she did come back they were piled high with dust. (Kind of an arrogant "you'll come crawling back" statement.)

I also remember a hospital scene, and that when the mutated-werewolf husband ate a random victim, he thought her blood tasted "coppery" or "metallic," maybe because the victim was on her period.

Sorry, that's all I got.

Shadow Fires by Leigh Nichols (Dean Koontz)? Shadowfires by Leigh Nichols

Trixie | 93 comments It could be...the cover is dead on! I'm tempted to say this is it but I'll have to see it before I move this to "solved."

Here's a fairly detailed plot summary:

Trixie | 93 comments I think this has to be it! I've forgotten a lot, obviously, since much of the plot sounded unfamiliar. But on the strength of the cover alone, this has to be it. Thank you so much for all your help!

You're welcome. I think you remembered a lot for a book you read twenty years ago. My memory isn't that good...which is why I rely on Google, Wikipedia, etc... :)
