Hey guys! This will be our january group readalong. If you have never read this classic before, please join us. If you have read this then feel free to reread and discuss this with us here. I'll be in on this as soon as my copy arrives! It's coming from your part of the world Amber, even though I could hop on a tube and be in London where it was set within half an hour! Sometimes life is very strange.

I'll follow your comments, but I don't think I can "squeeze" in to reread it now!

I've been so frustrated waiting for my copy (it was meant to be part of my Christmas present!) that I've reread two "retellings" in the meantime. One was from 1926, one from 1953.

Most of what passes as "Peter Pan" in bookshops is an adaptation, as you probably know. Some good, some bad. This 1953 one was endorsed by James Barrie.

Anyone is welcome to go to my page and read my reviews of these two. Although I'm expecting the real thing to be much more dramatic and cruel than these "retellings for little people" as one of the writers called it!

I just downloaded it this morning. Jean, when do you expect your copy to arrive?

Thanks Laura. Yes I really must look into how to tranfer some Project Gutenberg books on to my Kindle. I tend to just "order" them to be sent straight to the Kindle itself, and some of those free ones in the public domain are Project Gutenberg ones anyway.

It is a particularly beautiful illustrated copy which is coming, so I wanted to look at the pictures!! I probably will read it on my Kindle alongside though. That will be a lot easier on the eye. And I hope that it is at least James Barrie's own retelling - even if not his original play.

I'll try to start on this soon. Have a read 4 review request to do so will get on Peter Pan after that one.

I'd like to read the uncut version of this book as Brom read one like that which inspired him to write his dark version of Peter Pan The Child Thief. So I hope my ebook copy is that uncut version.

Yes, I'm doing that too Amber :) My lovely illustrated one came today but I need to read one on Kindle alongside. There are LOTS of versions, including his original play, but I am getting the one which is the novel in 17 chapters by J M Barrie himself. Then I should start by next weekend :)

awesome Jean! I hope you enjoy it. Katy said that it was disappointing. My fave peter pan version is Brom's A Child Thief so we'll see how my ebook copy fares later on. right now I'm reading wind in the willows and a dozen black roses so hope to get back to peter pan next. cool zoe!

Although I was familiar with the story having seen the various movies and whatnot, I was surprised by how sad the character of Peter Pan is. To never grow up physically is one thing, but he never grew up mentally or emotionally either. And to forget so much of his life, including his closest friends is tragic. On the surface, his life may be enviable, but to just go on every day with nothing to show for it is sad.

Have you ever read the book dustin? Just curious.

yeah, just finished it a couple days ago. It's the book that brought out the unfortunate side of Peter Pan. The movies don't tell that side of it

Oh okay. Well, I hope you enjoyed it. I've never read the original but have read brom's version of peter pan called the child thief and he's dark in that version too.

Just read about a third of this. I'm surprised by how whimsical and tongue-in-cheek it is.

Yeah I will Jean. I'm going to start on this soon. going to try and finish Ready Player One tonight or tomorrow since I am almost done with it and then will start on Peter Pan and Redwall.

I know Jean. Brom said that the book inspired him for the Child Thief so now I'll be thinking of that version as I read it. btw Peter Pan was evil in Once Upon a Time too.

Hey Jean, you can always buy a copy. They have The Child Thief on amazon and as an ebook. I got mine through my local library's ebooks library through the overdrive software online when I read it and thought it was awesome! Yes, I had looked into buying it through Amazon, but it's not that cheap, so I'd need to see it first (as I'm not sure I'd be able to read it) and my library doesn't have it.
