Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments Good question. I am supposed to be reading Falling Together as a buddy read on another site. I'm having a hard time getting into it, and my buddy has only communicated once. Hmmmm. I have The Solder's Wife sitting on my nightstand just waiting for me. Anyone read either one of these?

oh that's a bit sad. I hate when someone you rely on doesn't actually participate. I haven't read either but The soldiers wife sounds really interesting

At the moment I am reading Fatherland by Robert Harris. I haven't actually started it (that is going to happen as soon as I log off here :) )

I'm reading 2 books. Luminaries by Eleanor Catton which is the alternate monthly read for the GR Kindle group and The Golden Land by Di Morrissey for the AR Aussie Author 2014 Challenge. Just got notice that The Ocean at the end of the Lane has come in At the library So I'll be Starting it Soon.

Can you ladies start your own topics? If you can't let me know if you are doing a buddy read and I can set that up for you :)

Hi Jennie, it's one of the books for my January challenge with Megan, but I could read it at the very end of January. Would that work for you?

I can set up a new topic, but not a new folder. If you wanted buddy reads to be in a separate folder, you would have to do that.

No kidding. But once I start a book, I usually try very hard to finish it. You guys have me so inspired, I'm probably going to double what I said I was going to read.

Inkeri Marjory wrote: "Megan wrote: "You guys have me so inspired, I'm probably going to double what I said I was going to read. "

I agree! You guys are so inspiring!

I finished Sinuhe egyptiläinen by Mika Waltari the day before yesterday. The book was a great. I've had it on my TBR list since the dawn of time and I'm happy I finally read it. I wasn't anything I expected it to be and I was so positivley surprised by this that I ended up liking the book a lot. It was a lot easier to read than I thought and the story was much more interesting than I had aticipated.

Now I'm reading Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. It's pretty OK so far, I'm about 25 pages in.

We're having a historical themed month in another group, which means I have more historical books, such as To Kill a Mockingbird and A Thousand Splendid Suns, coming up this month.

I love that we are all part of different groups too, bringing with us all different bits and pieces (challenges/themes/etc) and ill set up a topic for buddy reads

message 20: by Sharon (new)

Sharon So what is everyone reading? It would be lovely if everyone posted what they are or have finished reading :)

message 21: by Inkeri (new)

Inkeri I'm reading Catch-22 at the moment. I'm sort of liking it, but it's not going to become a favorite. I also started reading To Kill a Mockingbird the other day.

message 22: by Inkeri (new)

Inkeri I just finished Catch-22 and I'm happy I finally read it, because now I never have to read it again. I just didn't like it too much.

Now I can continue reading other books and hope they'll be better. :)

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
At the moment im reading 3 books,
Im on the app so can't add links, but the main one is "Cassie's Cowboy Crave" a bit of romance. On my new ereader :)
Then im also reading the 2nd in the obernewton chronicles (a ya read from my childhood)
And lastly "the fatherland" by Robert Harris. But im struggling to get into it.
I always have a few books on the go. Always too keen to start books. :D

message 27: by Megan (new)

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
Actually, im reading the 3rd in the obernewton chronicles.

One of the reasons I have a few books on the go is because I live in quite a large house and im too lazy to look for a book. I keep one upstairs and one in the living room, that way I always have one close by :)

I'll let you know once I read it. It might not be this year though... :) I just have too many books I want to read and not enough time! :D

I'm currently reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. I'm almost halfway through and I'm hooked on the book. It's a very good book and the story just sucks you in.

I really enjoyed that one Inkeri. Looking forward to reading his latest one And the Mountains Echoed

message 36: by Inkeri (new)

Inkeri This is the first book by Hosseini that I've ever read, but I'm pretty sure I will be reading more books by him in the future.

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments Hi you guys, it's been a bad week, but I'm back to socialize again. Yippee! I have six books under the heading of Australia listed on my book lists, has anyone read any of them?

message 38: by Inkeri (new)

Inkeri I've never even heard of them Marjory. :) I'm glad to see you socialising again! :)

message 39: by Megan (new)

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
Sorry Marjory, I've never read them or any from those authors. I would definitely recommend reading a Bryce Courtenay book. Matthew Flinders Cat - its long but flicks between the eras, its set in Sydney tho. One of my favourites

message 40: by Inkeri (new)

Inkeri I just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and really loved the book!

Now I'm going to concentrate on To Kill a Mockingbird for the rest of the month and after I'm done with that I've read all the books I planned I would read this month. Yay me! :D

message 41: by Marjory (new)

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments Good for you!!! I'm about to start Where'd You Go Bernadette, and then I will have completed the January challenge too.

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments I am reading Cloudstreet by Tim Winton. In another book club, this book came highly recommended, but I am not really enjoying it that much.

message 48: by Megan (new)

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
it is listed as a modern Australian classic but I didn't enjoy it that much either. I don't think that it reflects Australia accurately either.

message 49: by Marjory (new)

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments No. It's very off and hard to follow. I don't feel as if its specific to one country, that setting could be anywhere. Cept of course for the funny words you guys use.......heehee

message 50: by MaryKatherine (new)

MaryKatherine (opheliaellie131) I'm STILL reading Outlander by Diana Gabaldon Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon

The only reason I haven't finished it yet is because I've been so busy! It's such a great book and I'm nearly finished, so maybe it's also a mixture of not wanting the book the end and being busy that's preventing me from finishing...
