How to find my old posts / comments

If you're using the app, not a clue. I'm sure the Mac is much the same as the PC.

Every time people ask for a how-to section on GR, or a FAQ, or a map or an index, Otis responds that he wants the site to be intuitive so he won't add those things.
So...everyone has to stumble around and find things by accident.

I've done a fair amount of stumbling around -- sometimes I find interesting things I didn't know existed. But more often I stumble around and don't find what I was looking for in the first place. Maybe some of us are intuitively-impaired. Maybe you could have a FAQ for those of us that are thusly "challenged."

I think there are one or two (or maybe three?) FAQs floating around the Feedback Group. The ones that staff created are sticky, meaning they remain at the top and have an asterisk. The ones created by members (which are probably more useful), I can't seem to find....they're there, somewhere...
One thing I would strongly suggest is joining the Feedback Group and just starting a thread whenever you have a question about anything, no matter how trivial you think it is. Lots of people are very familiar with the site and can help you out. Also lots of people are stumbling around just like you and would benefit from reading questions from other people stumbling around.

summary: search for poem
question:
I'm looking for a poem of which I have forgotten teh name of the author. It starts ...
The movers have arrived. Only the things with yellow papers, I tell them.....
Ends with:
The guest room smells strange. The old gray cat curls op behind my legs.
I know this is a tough request, but I would be so grateful if you could find it for me.
Hi Irene,
This would be better if you start a new topic/thread and put your question in it. At this point, your question is at the end of a thread, and most people are not likely to click on this to see your question.

I have to post here so I can try this lol.

Ok, it didn't work.
"go up to your name in the above post" maybe I misunderstood? Your comment was directed to someone who posted above you, so I thought she was supposed to hover over her name for the option to come up? Mine doesn't do anything when I hover over it.
Edit: 10 minutes later it worked. Weird. But thanks!

And it has the advantage of having a search box on nearly every screen instead of having to find a thread you've posted on or find a link in your profile.
(You guys with user names like Kate, Rachel and Irene are out of luck with this method, though.)

Correct. Until the page is refreshed, your post isn't assigned a message number (e.g. Melanti's post above mine is message 22). Once you post your comment and then refresh the page, you get a message number AND you can then click on your comment history.

So, i was wondering, since the original post/question has been solved/answered, how do we move this to "Solved"?
Or, we can't/shouldn't?

Only book requests go in Solved.

This is actually a "helpful hints" thread, so we definitely wouldn't want it moved to Solved anyway.

Just to recap and add a few more suggestions for finding your old posts (if you're on the desktop, not mobile, version of the site):
1. Your comments page for this group -- One method: Click "Members" in the right column, then Search Members by Name for your name. Click the "# comments" link beside your name. [Note: Not available on the Bookshelf page.]
(Update) 2. Your comments page for this group -- Another method: Rollover (hover over) your avatar next to any comment you made in this group. Click "See Comment History" in the small popup.
3. Your comments page for the entire site -- Rollover your avatar in the upper-right corner, then click "My Comments" in the drop-down menu.
4. Click "Recent Posts" near the bottom of your Profile page.
5. Search this group's discussion posts -- Enter keywords from your post into the Search Discussion Posts box in the right column. [Note: Not available on the Bookshelf page.]
6. Some people bookmark their posts using their web browser.

That's like... the opposite of intuitive.
Otis seems like a very nice person, but a lot of people need instructions. Everywhere, on every site. A lot of icons on other sites have gone wordless (no hover-over) and I have no idea what they do.

No, definitely no time out rule. Is this the thread you're looking for?

In addition, these two threads of yours were solved:
