K. (kodoharty) | 101 comments Aww - Without a doubt this is my favorite romance genre:

1. Judith Ivory (a/k/a Judy Cuevas)
2. Lisa Kleypas
3. Julia Quinn
4. Judith McNaught
5. Mary Balogh
6. Julie Garwood
7. Connie Brockway
8. Hannah Howell
9. Kinley MacGregor
10.Elizabeth Hoyt

Toughy - I know that Hoyt should be higher because I loved every one of her books I've read so far, but I've only read her "Prince" series. We'll see after I read the ones on my TBR. Plus, I have LOVED Julie Anne Long's last two books . . . again, we'll see if she continues to pan out! :)

Oww! Had to edit to add Pamela Clare - She also could become a complete favorite (any genre). I've LOVED both the books I've read by her as well!
K.

Elizabeth Lowell belongs in there, and Victoria Alexander is fun, as it Lynsay Sands...

I would put Pamela Clare in there if I had more books to base it on, but so far have only read two - but they were excellent!

Good for us, Verity!!

Heath's westerns were just ok, but it's her Scoundrels of St. James series that I love. Julia Quinn's in there for the fun stuff in her stories.

message 19: by new_user (new)

new_user I wish I'd known that before. Tried a Western of hers first. :/ I'll make sure the next is a Scoundrels book. :D

message 20: by Verity (new)

Verity | 7 comments I should mention that Meredith Duran has catapulted to my top 5 fav authors. 2 outta her 3 books (DOS & WOYS) are 5*, her 2nd book (BBYT) is 4*. Wish she could write 2 books / month =^2

I totally agree, Verity. Not many debut authors can rock the genre like she did with Duke of Shadows.

Then I guess I know what I have to do!!!

You're evil!! But wait - when did I make such a ridiculous resolution? Must have been in a different dimension!! Besides, I won credits for 2 new books in a recent Count-off Challenge, so I'm good-to-go!

message 27: by Dina (new)

Dina (missdina) No way! Is anyone still keeping their New Year's buy-no-new-book resolution? I've already ditched mine a long time ago, but I'll probably renew it in a couple of months, LOL.

Jackie (thenightowl) Dina wrote: "No way! Is anyone still keeping their New Year's buy-no-new-book resolution? I've already ditched mine a long time ago, but I'll probably renew it in a couple of months, LOL."

I didn't have enough books to make that resolution this year, but I'm definitely going to have to make it for next year. I've acquired one too many books in 2009. lol.

message 29: by Dina (new)

Dina (missdina) I had more than 300 books collecting dust on my TBR when I made my resolution last year. I've "slaved" myself and managed to get it down to around 150 now - oh, what a chore it was, LOL! - so I guess I've been a "good girl" this year. We shall see if Santa agrees... ;)

message 30: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Wow, do you mean you read 150 books? If so that's amazing!

This year I discovered library book sales. Bad, bad discovery. lol.

message 31: by Dina (new)

Dina (missdina) I actually read more than 150 books this year... Remember, I ditched my buy-no-new-books resolution sometime along the way, LOL. I'm a fast reader and I'm still enjoying my sabbatical, so I've been living the life of the gods. ;)

message 32: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) *bows to the master*

Man, I wish I could do that. That's my dream right now. To take a long vacation in a tropical place with time to read in peace. I don't see that happening anytime soon though. lol.

message 33: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments I don't think I've ever read 10 historical romances ...

do John Jakes' Kent Family Chronicle's Count?

I also read Chesapeake and Centennial by James Michener. They are definitely historical, and did involve a lot of interrelationships between families over 200 years or so. (okay, Centennial kind of starts with "First the Earth Cooled" so that covers a lot more time. I guess Chesapeake did the same thing, because I remember a lot of the Geomorphology of the Chesapeake Bay being part of the story).

Mary (marynovik) | 56 comments I've been reading this list of favourite historical romance authors with great interest! Are any of you interested in entering your favourite author in the contest I'm running? The winner will receive a signed first edition of my historical novel Conceit, which is a Book Haven group read for August. The link is http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5... All you have to do to enter is to post a message in the thread telling everybody (1) the title of your favourite historical novel, (2) the name of the author, (3) what you like about the book in 2-3 sentences. The contest ends August 15.

Cheers,
Mary
