Discuss in the comments your thoughts on chapters 1-8! What did you like, was there anything you didn't like? Who's your favorite character so far? Let's talk!

message 2: by Ivana (new)

Ivana Užarević (bookwormconfessions) | 7 comments I read two chapters so far, I´m on the third one right now. The story so far is interesting although it seems a bit rushed. Like everything is happening so fast. I like Zel as a character, she seems like she could be a strong leading character. And this feels like the kind of book where, when you finish one chapter, you have to read another one immediately :)

message 3: by Ilse (new)

Ilse (eelsaysbooks) | 3 comments Im really liking this book so far Im on chapter 8 actually haha.

message 4: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleengreens) | 6 comments I am loving this book so far. It's very well written and the pacing is fantastic. I wish I didn't have to sleep so I could keep going. I just want to keep reading so bad. I think this is going to be a fast read :)

message 5: by Adeeb (new)

Adeeb (adeebn) | 7 comments I read two chapters so far, and I LOVE LOVE the character names. I love how the sisters have a rhyme to their names. The world is still a little bit confusing but I'm sure everything will be explained soon enough.

message 6: by Arissa (new)

Arissa Cannella | 8 comments So far I am loving this book! I love the characters and how they all act. And I LOVED when Zel made Cy blush. Such a funny scene.

message 7: by Adeeb (new)

Adeeb (adeebn) | 7 comments So I finished reading all 8 chapters and I can say that the pacing is great and the story seems very interesting with all the chemicals and stuff. I just want to know more about what is happening :)

message 8: by Moriah (new)

Moriah I'm in chapter 3 and I still don't know how I feel about this book :P

message 9: by Jade (new)

Jade Kayy | 5 comments Im starting ch8. Not sure how i feel about the book so far. A lot is going which keeps it interesting but its very different. I just have so many questions and feel like idk whats going on

message 10: by Jade (new)

Jade Kayy | 5 comments I think my problem is i dnt really like the main character..... So far. She seems a little erratic

Moriah Jade wrote: "I think my problem is i dnt really like the main character..... So far. She seems a little erratic"

I have a problem with her too, but because she's somewhat two-dimensional.

message 12: by Dana (new)

Dana | 8 comments 1-8 totally hooked me.. I love zelia and I like hex and cy! Hex is so fun and of course there had to be a dark mysterious handsome guy aka cy! I'm loving this book so far!

message 13: by Jbb Lim (last edited Jan 27, 2014 09:18PM) (new)

Jbb Lim (jbblkh) There is no denying that it started out on a fast pace from the beginning. If this isn't so, there won't be room for character development after such traumatic and blurry experience that has been occurred. So far, I'm enjoying the chemistry among themselves during their first meetings in the foster home with mystery being placed for us to read on. Now, back to Chapter 9...

message 14: by Christine (new)

Christine Nguyen (cneve) I am just starting Chapter 8 now. The book is good so far, the pacing was a bit fast at the beginning, but the concept and mystery of it all is really intriguing. I am not sure how I feel about the characters yet, but I find it interesting that our protagonist is Zel and not Dyl (the one with supposed special powers) and I actually like Dyl a lot more.. and kind of find Zel a bit irritating? :/ I hope I am not the only one. The new characters sound interesting like Hex and Cy and I am excited to learn more about them! :)

Christine Nguyen (cneve) Jade wrote: "I think my problem is i dnt really like the main character..... So far. She seems a little erratic"

I am glad to hear this.. because I find her irritating a little. :/

message 16: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra (deamonicshot162) | 17 comments I'm enjoying this book so far, yet I don't know how I feel about it. There are some parts I do like about Zelia and there are some parts I don't like about her. It's defiant that I'm not going to set this book down quite yet. I loved the part where Z bursts into the holorec room because of what Cy said about her and when she takes off his shirt and throws it at him!! Very funny and bold. I don't think I could have any courage to do that if I was in that situation. Chapter 9 beckons...

message 17: by Justus (new)

Justus Stone (jrstone) | 2 comments The world has some definite potential. A little disappointed at another female protagonist who spends a lot of time saying how plain she is and how flat chested she is etc, etcetera. Then there's the cliche moody, handsome boy who will probably fall in love with said girl despite her "flaws." I foresee she has an ability, it'll just come out an surprise everyone at a key moment.

message 18: by Ryoku (new)

Ryoku Light | 14 comments I just finished chapters 1-8! It is a very interesting and fast paced book. I will probably finish this book within the next day or so.

message 19: by Thgtributeof12 (new)

Thgtributeof12 | 2 comments I have just started the book and I´m so exited. I´ve read the first chapter and I´m loving the world. It´s so good.

message 20: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Aguiar gazza I read five or six chapters and I'm putting the book down. I really didn't get into it, the world-building felt weak and I couldn't find a way to like the main character - I mean, she says so many negative things about herself that I thought I was reading Twilight or something, that really bored me. Also, the thing with the dad keeping secrets from his daughters, then he dies and they have to figure it out on their own... I was expecting this book to be more original. I'll keep track of the discussions to see if it's worth it to continue reading in the future...

message 21: by Mom2triplets04 (new)

Mom2triplets04 | 40 comments Just finished chapter 8. I'm enjoying the book so far. It's very fast moving and lots of surprises. Of course, I went into this book without knowing anything about it so I'm still trying to figure out things. I like the main character. I feel bad for her since she lost her dad and sister and now lives with these strange people. Want to know what happened to her sister so will keep reading on.

message 22: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin Hodges (caitlinyerlyhodges) I like Zelia so far! She's dealing way better than I would if I suddenly lost my dad and sister, and then was sent to live with random people after having my existence erased from the world.

message 23: by AdrienneViolet (new)

AdrienneViolet | 5 comments I don't read much SciFi or future type books so I have a slight struggle with all this new technology and imagining it all in my head. But it seems amazing the type of world the author has created. I just finished chapter 8. And wow so many emotions ! Its interesting these new characters that zel has to put up with. But I like that they are all kind of funny in a way that they talk to each other I can tell they are like siblings in that way. I feel for zel because right now its like her whole life has just been flipped. I want to read more about how she will possibly find her sister.

message 24: by Liv (new)

Liv (oliviareadstoomuch) I am totally loving this book so far! I think Cy might be my favorite character so far. I hope Zel finds her sister though, it would be kind of tragic if she didn't. I like the pace of the story so far, and can't wait for the reveal about Dyl's special traits!!

message 25: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Gil (smgt) | 7 comments Just finished chapter 8. At first i felt like the whole thing was to rushed and i need to go back an reread just to make sure i didn't miss anything it wasn't until the last couple of chapters that i started to really get into it. The more i read the better it seems to get. :)

message 26: by Judy (new)

Judy Patrick | 10 comments Just finished chapters 1-8 and I'm hooked! I'm liking the pacing and the world is pretty interesting. Zelia doesn't seem to annoying yet (like some female protagonists turn out). Loving all the new "family members". Especially Cy. He seems wonderful.

message 27: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Stansbury (jennstansbury) | 7 comments I'm enjoying the pacing of this book. I needed a book just like this. I can understand why some people don't really like Zel. She does seem a bit erratic but I like that about her. I think this book is going to be a quick enjoyable read.

message 28: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurasmit) | 8 comments The pacing of this book is fantastic. Also I love the fact they have holoprofs and holo studs. I want one too!

message 29: by Danica (new)

Danica | 4 comments I really like this book so far. I'm really into science fiction though, so when it comes to sci-fi I'm easily pleased. My favorite character so far would probably be Vera. I really like the idea of her being like a plant person, I thought that was really clever and cool. I know as a character she is kind of minor right now, but I really like her. She seems like the fun one of the group that keeps tension down and helps people loosen up when its needed. I hope we continue to see more of her through the book.

message 30: by I.S. (new)

I.S. Anderson (Eman1272) | 9 comments I finally got started on this. Had to finish Aliegant first. I only finished chapter 3, but it is starting to get interesting.

message 31: by Nick (new)

Nick (nicksquiggles) | 8 comments HOLY SHIT! The end of the first chapter is making me gasp already. I hope this book stays as good as it's started

message 32: by Taylor (new)

Taylor O'mahony | 8 comments Just finished chapter 8 last night. I have been enjoying it so far although more in the early chapters and then it slowed down for me a little. Although I think that because I read 70 pages in a day and then there were a few days I didn't read at all so hopefully I find more time to read it this week. There are definitely a few things that got my interest.

message 33: by cas (new)

cas | 7 comments omg I loved the ending of chapter 8 I can't even breath! first chapters were kind of sad with everything that happened but I see some kind of reassurance in Vera and the other kids (except for somehow Cy he's getting on my nerves tho I loved his reaction at the chapter 8 ending)

message 34: by Liz (new)

it definitely starts off rather quickly! Phew. Definitely had to pace myself so I wouldn't devour it in one sitting! And I looooove Zel. She's a nice balance of smart without being a robot.

Liz (elizziebooks) | 30 comments AdrienneViolet wrote: "I don't read much SciFi or future type books so I have a slight struggle with all this new technology and imagining it all in my head. But it seems amazing the type of world the author has created...."

Yeah, it definitely took me a while to get used to the holo technology! I still can't imagine what a holo stud looks like xD

message 36: by Nick (new)

Nick (nicksquiggles) | 8 comments Just finished chapter 8, loving it so far. I agree with some of your here that it is fast paced but I am loving it, I have read some slower books lately and I am excited that this is fast paced for a change :D

Also I really want a holo stud, it's like Google Glass but even better xD

message 37: by Jarrin (new)

Jarrin (buttonpop) I finally finished chapter 8; the critics were not lying when they said this was a fast-paced thriller. The descriptions of Zelia Benten's world are extraordinary and just down right brilliant. I honestly didn't expect to like this book this much. I Think the entire concept of a holo stud what be so cool. I kinda wish that her father was around a bit more before the accident, just so I can get a better sense of his personality.

message 38: by Ariel (new)

Ariel (arielbissett) WOOOO! I've just finished reading this first section of the book, and what a ride!
This book definitely starts off with a bang, eh? We have the tragic car crash, then Dylia is stolen, and then Zelia is brought to a new and crazy place with weird people!
I love the amount of plot going on.. we're constantly being exposed to new story, new settings, and new gadgets and technology. The only thing I'm kind of scared of is that character development is being sacrificed for plot... I feel that everything is a bit rushed.
What do you guys think? I'm definitely excited to keep reading!

message 39: by I.S. (new)

I.S. Anderson (Eman1272) | 9 comments I agree that the pace is pretty fast. To be honest I prefer things that way. Why waste time grabbing people's attention. So far I find myself wishing there were more characters with special abilities. I really hope Zelia turns out to have abilities also. The story will probably get boring if she doesn't.

I'M TOTALLY THINKING THE SAME THING. I really really hope she has powers!

message 41: by Maddie (new)

Maddie worden | 5 comments I love the first 8 chapters no page or word was wasted! I love the main character and how BA she is or when she just takes off her shirt and like to Cy "just have it back". Excited to see where the story goes and what happens to her sister.

message 42: by Bianca (new)

Bianca | 2 comments I'm really enjoying this book.I didn't like first and second chapter, but from chapter three it got better and better.
I don't want to put it down!!!

message 43: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Metcalf | 4 comments I'm really enjoying this book so far. I really like Zelia as a character and hows she trying so hard to get her sister back no matter what. The part where she takes Cy's shirt off to give it back to him made me laugh, I would never have the guts to that. I really liked how the story started and can't wait to see what happens next!

I couldn't resist starting this book a little bit earlier than I planned! I just finished chapter 8, and I'm really enjoying this so far! The world is awesome and I love all the little details and the cool sci-fi technology!

I definitely agree with what a lot of you are saying about the pace being really fast, but I actually love that! The only problem I've encountered is that there are a lot of different characters introduced quickly and I'm struggling a bit to keep track of who is who, but I feel like that won't be a problem for very long as I keep reading!

One thing I'm wondering though... how do you guys pronounce Dyl and Zel? I was saying Dyl like it rhymes with bill (because of Zel's 'Dyl Pickle' comment) but then Micah says their names rhyme! I've been thinking Dyl rhymes with bill and Zel rhymes with bell, but what have you all been saying??

Totally agree! I'm LOVING all the tech and world building, but I do wish we knew more about Zel's dad and his personality! We get that Zel really trusts him and listens to him, but we don't get much else! I'm hoping we'll learn more about her dad as the story goes on.

message 47: by Kellseigh (new)

Kellseigh I really enjoyed the first section of this book! Like a lot of people are saying I found the pacing in the first few chapters to be a bit fast, but I do like the pace closer to the end of this section. I'm enjoying Zel's perspective, and I think Hex is hilarious. One of my favourite things about the book so far is the science-y joking and little one-liners. I definitely found myself laughing out loud on more than one occasion. I'm excited to see where this story goes!

"I've just lost everything I've ever known and she's getting all hydrochloric acid on me."
There are no words to describe how funny I found this. This is now going to be my insult towards people who annoy me. "Gah, quit being all hydrochloric acid."

message 50: by Anna (new)

Anna Millard I'm loving this book so far! It's really intriguing and I like how fast paced it is. It's keeping me hooked. If anything, I could see how the beginning wanted a little something extra, but it didn't bother me too much. The fast pace that the readers feel sort of parallels what Zel feels and I think that's cool.
The -- what do we call them? Specials? People-with-powers? Anyway, those people kind of remind me of the Peculiars from Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. But that may just be because I just finished reading that.
