R7: A Bookwork Orange

How many of you have played before and How do you guys want to work this,?
My daughter suggested we all read the same book each week, I suppose it's an option? I have been on a team where a few of us read the same book a couple of
weeks.
Dawn, do you do the organising thing like I do? Ive got some books sorted already. Do you all want a list of what Ive found so far?

Ok, first up let me just say I am completely frazzled by real life at the moment. I probably should not have committed myself to the challenge but I am looking at it as I will need the reading time to unwind. I won't let the team down. I just may not be around as often as I was in past rounds.
Secondly, I can't be captain someone else will need to be. The point of the captain is to make sure I don't miss any points. So I need someone who can keep track of my missing head.
Third up, I kind of organize. It depends on my time. I really liked your method from last round Kathy. But it is time consuming I didn't get through it all before the game started last time and just never finished it.
Just from the experience of reading every teams thread from every round it really is all up to the luck of the draw. I have noticed though that statistically teams that pick the same items each week have a better chance of winning at the end, it isn't necessary.
I have never played on a team that we all read the same book, or that collected the same items each week. The reading the same books worries me a bit. I am trying not to do re-reads this year, unless I just need the comfort of an old stand by. I usually get my books from the library. And I can't afford to go buy a lot of new books right now. So what I can read is limited to what I can get.
I suggest that we don't have to read the same books but maybe the same items. There were two teams that did it last round. One used Random.org to choose their other words. One everyone just said I have these items and they worked out what fit best. I am OK with either. However, I have found that for me it works best to try to get rid of the hard items first a lamp is pretty easy to find in almost any book while an elf might be harder in certain genres. We could set a pattern at the beginning and alter it as we go and items are removed.
I can be up for which ever method you all like the best.

From songs:
Orange Crush (it's been used but it was the obvious)
Orange Blossom Special
The Power of Orange Knickers (while the song was a little melancholy "Orange Knickers" makes me giggle like the minion who says "bottom")
Orange colored Sky
Orange ball-peen hammer
Orange County Girls
Agent Orange
Orange Rolls
From Movies:
A Bookwork Orange
Other shades of Orange: Carrot, Tangerine, Pumpkin, Gold
Lil' Golden Books
Tangerine Tome Tacklers
Pumpkin Pages
Carrot.... yeah I got nothin'

As for names, I like A Bookwork Orange or The Power of Orange Knickers (what's not to like? LOL)

I'm good with going for the harder items first, but think we should all look for the same items each week, its the best way to take this game out!

Definitely agree on trying for the same items. Seems to be the way to (hopefully) get ahead of Mr. Randomizer lol.

I've never been on a team where we always selected the same items each week, but I like the idea of it. I've always tried to go for the harder items first, if they happened to be in the book I was reading (wouldn't go out of my way to find them in case they were called later in the challenge), but those could possibly be different for each person since we might like to read different genres. However I'm fine with trying to collect the same items each week if that's what is decided we do.
I think the hardest items for me are:
PEOPLE: Hunter, Elf, Thief
ANIMALS: Frog, Rat, Wolf
MISC: Nudity, Story, Fictional Place, Fictional Character
PROPS: Statue
I can be captain. I made a spreadsheet to keep track of our points, here's the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/c...

FROG is in

RAT is in

Nudity is easy to find! Nude, naked, unclothed etc, just look for all those kind of words.
I must ask Dawn, all our book characters are fictional(!) so will any of them count? I havent found a fictional place yet either.
If we want to win this, the best way is to be organised, and the best way to do that is to work together, and find the same items each week, or else we just end up at the end with everyone still looking for different words. We debate between us which is the best to find each week after we have the called words. Just remember that most of the time, I will just follow your lead, as it is much later in the day before I get the notification.

So excited for the first item to be called! :D

The only negative I see with all of us selecting the same items every week is if the ones we choose are then called. Instead of just one or two of us being hit all of us will be. Though if were lucky maybe that won't happen too often.
Excited for this to start :)

As for the same items yeah in the beginning it is not cool if all players can't claim all the items because we've already claimed it. But at the end when we all only need one more item on a category and we each need 5 different items, then a different item is called from that category. We would only have 6 of the 10 points four that category instead of a possible 8.

Oh, that's SO good to know! Now I don't think it'll be that hard at all! :)
True. I've never done this challenge where we've all collected the same items, but I think it'll be a fun change :) Do we want to use Randomizer to decide the other items or list all the items in the book we want to read that has the two mandatory items? Either way is fine with me.

God loves a tryer! It was worth a shot.
Personally I think we can just discuss among ourselves what to search for, it becomes more obvious as you go along, what needs to be found, and I pretty much just follow what you guys decide as far a itens go. The important thing is that we all work together from the get go.

I would like to propose we do the random.org generated list for the other 3 items. Then use that as a starting point for the items to claim. If it picks Bridge and someone doesn't have bridge we change that one, or if someone has a word they think is hard we go with that one.
And not to be too strict on it if 4 of us have one thing and one person can't find it don't sweat it, just the next week we swap so by the second week we all still have the same items.

Week 1
Animal: Dog
Bonus: Wing
And using Random.org these are the other items we are going for:
People: Brother
Misc: Girl in red
Props: Mattress

Animal: Dog:
"Frank Walters. Wanted-dead or alive. Crimes: horse theft, murder, rape; appeard he'd even shot someone's dog." Page 117
Bonus: Wing:
"His eyelashes fluttered across her hipbone like the wings of a butterfly." Page 258
People: Brother:
"Then the letter arrived from his brother." Page 42
Misc: Girl in red:
On the Cover
Props: Mattress:
"Alexi sprawled on the tousled mattress, watching Cat through half-lidded eyes." Page 31

I was thinking: for the really hard items like fictional place, should we wait until they get called/are the only item we need left? So far I haven't found any books that fit that one, so I think it would be hard to find two if we claimed it early then had to reread later.

I just don't want to end up with 4 hard items at the end. I think the easy ones should wait until the end.

Im halfway through, but am waiting for Dawn to conirm or deny me "WING" Fingers crossed, or chances are first week in, Im going to be holding us up!

Oh no, I haven't finished it yet! But I found one that has all the items in it :)

For me it was a four

Grayson Cody

Classic Kristen Ashley!!
Gray’s eyes took in my smile then they moved to mine and he ordered gently, “Say you love me,
Ivey.”
My body eased under his and I whispered, “I love you, Gray.”
Shed tears over this one.
Loved it.
Loved Gray.
Loved Ivey.
Loved Lash.
Loved Brutus.
Loved the family Ivey always wanted, and finally got.
As always we have our uber sexy Alpha male that KA does SO well,
and to compliment him, we have our strong beautiful, sexy, alpha female,
KA also does so well.
Our couple meet, fall in love, and then the drama begins and this is where
the tears began as well. These two were so perfectly suited to each other,
it was the perfect story, until Ivey's brother came back and all hell broke lose.
I have to admit, I was intrigued by this, because I had had to run through the
book to find words for a challenge, so when I came across
His arms gave me a squeeze and he replied in a whisper, “Anything for you, babe.
Anything.”
“I love you, Lash.”
I was shocked! and needed to read this and get to the bottom of it NOW!
This story spans several years, some of them not happy for our couple.
A lot of assumptions are made that cause a lot of problems. but as always we get our HEA,
It was just a long time coming.
Great romance, but honestly, a bit drawn out near the end, I loved the story, and how it
all fitted together, But It probably should have finished before it did. An epilogue that spans nearly five years! It was almost a book in itself.
Still worthy of four stars.
CALLED ITEMS:
DOGPAGE 4. Even in this weather, I’d noticed kids
playing in the playground, folks walking their dogs, men jogging, women jog-walking.
WINGHe was totally lying. This thing was still running on a wing and a prayer.
CLAIMED ITEMS:
BROTHERMy stupid, f***ing, loser, dickhead, user, asshole brother.
GIRL IN REDMy body encased in
crimson. A see-through blouse with puff sleeves that fit me like a glove, body-hugging blush camisole
under, sexy, alluring but just hints you could take and let your imagination soar. Skintight, crimson
pencil skirt that hugged my ass, hips, thighs and went down to my knees. Crimson slingbacks with a
pointed toe and a high, lethal heel. Smart, thin, crimson leather clutch tucked under my pit. A ruby
pendant surrounded by diamonds at my throat, not huge, not small but still, it had to be said,
borderline ostentatious. Matching studs at my ears.(Just couldn't resist the whole thing!)
MATTRESS:I decided I’d order up room service, slip into something comfortable, call up a bunch of movies and spend my time lazing in bed with a movie marathon.

For me it was a four read

Review: I love this series. It is positively cheese-tastic. It is soooo cheesy and sometimes not so believable, but that doesn't hinder the enjoyment of it because you really can't take these books seriously.
Dog: She seems completely oblivious to Laszlo's puppy dog looks. pg 144
Wing: My wings were stripped off... pg 190
Brother: ...for you like they would your brothers? pg 298

Read: A Match Made in Texas by Karen Witemeyer, Regina Jennings, Carol Cox, & Mary Connealy
Finished: January 31, 2013
Rating: 4.5 Stars
REVIEW:
A Match Made in Texas is comprised of four novellas all having to do with matchmaking of some kind. The first three have a secret matchmaker who sets up the first three couples and the fourth one we find out the identity of the matchmaker and watch her meet her match.
A Cowboy Unmatched by Karen Witemeyer - 5 Stars
After reading both Short-Straw Bride and Stealing the Preacher I was waiting very impatiently to read Neill's story. I fell in love with the Archer brothers and wanted to see what lady would get paired with Neill.
The story was great from start to finish. The only thing that I could complain about was that it was short, but that's just me wanting more of this family and not anything having to do with the story itself - since for a novella it was absolutely perfect! It didn't feel rushed at all.
The romance was so sweet! There were some very heartwarming scenes, but I won't say more as I don't want to spoil it.
If you've read the previous two books featuring the Archers I'm sure this is already on your must read list. However if you haven't, even though the story could stand on its own, I would suggest reading them in order as you'll get so much more out of it if you do.
An Unforeseen Match by Regina Jennings - 5 Stars
I LOVED this story! It was so sweet and romantic, but at the same time it took on such a scary and serious issue - blindness.
I loved how Grace was a wimpy, dejected woman but wanted to find ways to be as self-sufficient as she could be.
Clayton was a great character. I loved so many things about him and I don't know if I should mentioned specific things as I don't want to spoil the story should you decide to read it. I will say that once I learned his full story I was even more impressed with him.
This story almost felt like a full sized novel and that's hard to do with a novella. The pacing was great and the conclusion oh so perfect!
This story turned out to be my favorite of the four, which kind of surprised me after how much I loved the first one - I didn't think any of them would top it.
No Match For Love by Carol Cox - 4.5 Stars
The story started out great and continued to be so until the last 10 pages or so, then everything wrapped up so quickly and neatly that it was a little boring. I think the only reason this happened is because it's a novella so I'm cutting a little slack, but after the first two being completely enjoyable this one fell just a little short so that's why I gave it a half star less.
This is the first story I've read by Carol Cox and if it's any indication of her other books I've been missing out on some wonderful books, as I'm sure a full length novel won't have the same problem. I'll definitely be checking them out soon.
Meeting Her Match by Mary Connealy - 3.5 Stars
This story is by far the shortest of the four and I wish it wasn't. The story felt super rushed and a bit crazy at times.
I felt so badly for the heroine of this story. So many things have happened in her life that are just terrible.
I know the ending was supposed to be funny and cute the way it wrapped up, but I just found it first of all unbelievable and to be completely honest wrong on the parts of so many. I would have like it so much better if it happened differently.
There was also quite a bit of repetitiveness and with the story only being 75 pages I felt that took away from the story.
One thing that bugged me, and I could be miscalculating this, was when one of the characters from the previous stories is said to be expecting in December of 1893 and then a year later is said to be round with child (same baby). No specific date was given of the actual time of the ending of the story, but with the characters bringing out Christmas items it sounds like it's close to December, if it's not that month already. This was only a minor thing and didn't affect my rating.
This was also the first story I've by Mary Connealy. I'm sure I'll be reading one of her full length novel sometime, as I do own one of them, just not sure when I'll get around to it.
On the whole I greatly enjoyed A Match Made in Texas and highly recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. I was asked to give my honest opinion of the book - which I have done.
