The Next Best Book Club discussion

Heading to the Library..."The Host" & "New Moon" are in for me!!!Just in time...Looks like I will need something to do indoors with this umpteenth day of rain.

I have the Woman in White lined up to read next, followed by Dry. I am trying to read the books for the July read, and I am reading the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies which is priceless.

I am almost done with Count of Monte Cristo. If I dont finish it tonite, it will making the trip to Inner Harbor with me tomorrow. Along with my next planned read:

The Borders Trilogy by McCarthy.

Fiona - I was at my local Borders and one of the booksellers told me that Stieg Larsson is deceased, but that he finished a trilogy, the first being The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I see you are reading the sequel; is the third one published as well? Perhaps you could post the name of that one too.

Next up for me after I finish Shanghai Girls will be The Angel's Game. So many people in this group are reading it!

I keep trying to get The Shadow of the Wind from the library, but for months, that title is always checked out. Frustrating. I hate to put a hold on it, as I never know when my schedule will overwhelm my reading time, and popular titles have a closer return date.

I will keep trying - it looks to be worth it, from all the buzz, here. I was quite intrigued by the premise.

Next up for our local book club is a title by Jimmy Buffet.

Thanks! If I can find out the title of the 3rd and it's U.S. release date, I'll post it. The bookseller was quite knowledgable about them so he may know.

Agreed on your thoughts of the 4th book, but I'll bet someone will finish it, given the anticipated success of the series.

Its called The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest and is out 1 October in the UK and 31 October in the US. Those are both hardback, but it looks like it will be in paperback at the end of Oct. in the UK (seems weird to me so I wouldn't rely on that info.)

the next instalment of books that im waiting for is the 4th vampire academy book blood promise and the 6th house of night book tempted! i have to wait until october for tempted but only one more month for blood promise yay!!!!!!!!

Unless someone makes a reservation for any of the other books I have from the library, my next book will be A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood. Though it will be a while since I just started The Night Watch by Sarah Waters.

I am eagerly awaiting the end of Mrs. Dalloway (the longest short book ever) so that I can start Five Spice Street.

Next up for me is What We Keep for another book club.

I'm waiting patiently for Inkheart on audio at the library.

A couple of those are on my TBR as well. I thought The Host was great and Breathers was just ok...I was disappointed by that one.

I'm currently reading Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry which is really good. Up next is Breathers, finishing off with Cell by Stephen King. it's a zombirific summer! :)

Why oh why do I do this to myself? I read <i>Wide Sargasso Sea</i> recently and really loved it. The writing is gorgeous. <i>Sarah's Key</i> is also on my list of books to read, as soon as I can catch it at the library. I'm too lazy to put things on hold.

I went to the library today and got out three other books though. I'm currently working on [book:Motherless Brooklyn, with A Curse Dark as Gold and A Spot of Bother waiting in the wings.

Rachel, I like your zombirific summer idea. I have several zombie books waiting in the wings and thought it would be fun to set a month aside and gorge on zombie fiction!I just recently added Patient Zero to my Mount TBR pile and I'm glad to hear it's a good one.

Next on my list is The French Lieutenant's Woman, then possibly Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, but that's subject to change.

My next is Practical Magic. I´m curious about the differences from the movie

I can't plan too far out, because I always end up changing my mind. But for sure here are the next two reads:

1. Sworn to Silence
2. April & Oliver A Novel

Both are fairly new releases and I'm excited to get to them.

Im making my way through the Border Trilogy, so when I am done with The Crossing, I will be reading Cities of the Plain.

After that, its a free for all. Which ever book calls to me the loudest :)

I'm about halfway through Wide Sargasso Sea and I agree wholeheartedly. The writing is also compelling - I had other plans for my reading this week, but then I started WSS...

Also listening to Woman in White, and wasn't sure I'd like the format of 'witnesses' telling their part of the story, but this one is also compelling, and since I do my listening when I'm gardening or cleaning, I'm doing a lot of both so I can continue the story.

My daughter told me the same thing, so I worked it into the Summer Challenge, along with A Thousand Splendid Suns, which she told me is even better.

i thought a thousand splendid suns was good, but i liked the kite runner better. i think i liked it b/c of how heartbreaking it is.

I loved the book of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns is on my TBR.

Recently saw the film of the The Kite Runner. It's good but nothing compared to the book.

I bought Whisper in the Blood for a camping trip I'm taking next week, but I peeked and got hooked. One less book to take with me. It was very good for mystery lovers though.

I still have The Time Traveler's Wife and Almost French. Those will have to do...if I can avoid reading them before I leave that is...

What isn't on my "next to read" list? This past year I've developed a bad habit... I will start a book and instead of finishing it, I pick up another one... Since joining this group though, I've finished Rejuvenile by Christopher Noxon (interesting read) and The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by Ann Rice (became incredibly boring halfway through). I just restarted Timequake by Vonnegut. After I finish that- I will probably try to finish Sin in the Second City or possibly retackle Only Revolutions

I've picked up Vanishing Acts by Jodi Picoult. I have so many that I want to read I'll just pick up one when I'm done. I choose randomly from my many stacks.

Well I have 18 checked out from the library

but Undoneis a sizzler ( no renewal only keep 21 days) that is the MUST read, which means 3 hours today while the kids swim

the inside book is The Turnaround

The Photograph by Penelope Lively for me in print and Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne on audio as soon as it comes in at the library.

Seth, I am currently reading The Likeness and really liking it.

I'm reading Emmanow. And the next few books I plan to read are The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, Love in the Time of Cholera, Middlemarch, and Anansi Boys.

I need to finish up Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and then I need to start my book club book that is due next week, Away.. but I am not very excited about it :-(

I'm in the middle of The Exorcist right now and it's pretty good despite the annoying writing style. After I finish that I'm going to be starting on Dark Water by Koji Suzuki.

I seem to be doing the same thing - I've started several books - but when they don't catch right away, I'm on to something else.

Next on my list (after finishing Lindsay's Dexter By Design) is Martin Amis's Dead Babies which was a group read for the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die group but I had to read a few library books first and missed the group read. Hopefully I'll get Catch-22 before the group read deadline expires.

It's a collection of short stories but the back says that the first story "Floating Islands" is the one that the movie was based on. I'd love to read The Ring but I can't seem to get my hands on a copy.

I have so many on my list but after I finish Bag of Bones.I think I will read Lullaby and Goodnight by Wendy Corsi Staub it will be my first time reading this author but have another that has been sitting on my bookshelf forever.Library books and series reads always seem to get in the way of books i actually own.

I had heard that as well, but I didn't think the second book was out yet. I thought it was coming out at the end of the month?

Next on my list is Never Let Me Go and Lisey's Story
