Brandi (librandian) | 206 comments I mainly read this book to prepare for seeing the movie next month. Also, my teen library patrons have been lecturing me for years about not reading this series.

I was not underwhelmed, but I wasn't super impressed either. I liked the lore Mead created in that there are two different kinds of vampires, the Moroi and the Strigoi. Too often stories tend to stop vampires from being evil with no rationale behind the change to the traditional role of the vampire. I also liked the fact that it was not a run-of-the-mill supernatural romance in which the characters and the action revolved purely around the make-out sessions of the romantic heroes.

I am looking forward to the movie. I'm curious to see how it will transfer to the screen.

Leigh Collazo (mrsreaderpants) | 6 comments Brandi, my library teens harassed into reading this series, too. I read the first one a couple of years ago and, well, it was okay. Nothing to get excited about in my opinion. That Angelina Jolie look-alike on the cover actually makes me cringe.

We have the book in my MS library, and it is very popular. The book does have mature content that many MS librarians would not be comfortable with, but I've had it for four years without any challenges. Win or lose, I will stand up for books the students love, but I've never had to do it for this title (at least not yet).

I love to show my students movie trailers based on YA books. I showed The Fault in Our Stars trailer several times today (they loved it). The VA movie trailer, however, is has some really racy scenes--the desk scene, the scantily-clad girls--I don't feel comfortable showing it to my classes.
