Lynai | 1188 comments I got this from another group and I thought this could be a great (and fun) idea here too. Since we could not open each and everyone's profile here and look what each and everyone's currently reading (my english prof said "each and everyone" is a sort of redundancy but well, each and everyone uses it, so what's the point?), can you just put here what you guys are currently reading? Aside from our monthly group reads, since it has a separate thread already, I guess. I think this would also be a great opportunity to discuss books.

Mr. Moderators, you can certainly move this thread to the folder where it belongs. :D

I'm currently reading The Smoke Jumper by Nicholas Evans. It's my second book by his (the first one's The Horse Whisperer) and I can say that I'm loving it more than I did with the Horse Whisperer. I think I want to be a smoke jumper too (well, almost). :D

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments Right now I'm reading The Modigliani Scandal by Ken Follett... an early bestseller from him way before Eye of the Needle hit international fame (which I'm gonna read next)...
I'm reading all Follet books before I start reading his magnum opus The Pillars of the Earth....

I hope we can get this book to be in our book club discussion... though Pillars is such a thick book it might take someone 2 months or more to read...

well that's what I'm currently reading...

message 3: by Lynai (new)

Lynai | 1188 comments I've read 2 of Follet's. One is "A Place Called Freedom" and the other is "Lie Down With Lions". They were both good, Follet writes quite well, but some "censored" scenes in both books were, for me, altogether unnecessary, so I wasn't able to give them both the 5 star rates.

message 4: by Violeta (new)

Violeta (violetagloria) | 46 comments i'm currently reading lots of files, includingyour posts. been absent for so long.
ahhh the dekada 70. this is the first novel I read in high school which was not recommended as part of our classroom instruction.

message 5: by Violeta (new)

Violeta (violetagloria) | 46 comments oh. I'm really moved.

Hi Marco, I've read Brisingr last year. Please let me know what you think about it.

Lynai | 1188 comments I'm done with The Smoke Jumper. I'm picking up Midwivesby Chris Bohjalianafter putting it down last week. The graphic details on childbirth seem to disgust me a bit. Parang ayaw ko na tuloy magkaanak. LOL!

Maryse (belle_maryse) | 151 comments Marco wrote: "It's going slow...then fast...then slow again. Still around three-quarters way through."

Better than harry potter or not? Haven't read anything by Paolini but I've developed a sudden interest in his works ever since I found out that we share the same birthdate. Ehehehe

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Marco wrote: "It's too slow but all the new information came so quickly, it rounded up the story in the ending nicely :)"

I felt the same.
It may not be the best book in the series but it holds a lot of information that, I believe, are vital in the last book. ^_^

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Marco wrote: "Oh yes!! I can't wait...I bet Paolini will cut the fourth book and say, "Oh sorry, book's too big - gotta have a fifth book!" And keep us all on tenterhooks."

Hahaha, I swear if he does that I'm gonna flood him with angry emails! I've been waiting for that last installment way too looong enough.

Aiza Cecilia (koorichan) | 1 comments Hi to y'all. =)

I am reading The Gold Coast by Nelson Demille. And I am loving it! Sarcasm, great. Superb for me.

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments I'm reading The Modigliani Scandal by Ken Follett and on the part 2 of the book on a party given by a character a certain Filipino made a cameo role as a barman... tapos alam niyo bang yung Filipino barman na yun umiinom pala siya kapag walang nakatingin at siniserve siyang drinks sa mga bisita... grabe.. mabuking siya nung isang character pero pinayagan din siyang uminom...
this stratled me a little bit...
ganoon na lang ba lagi ang tigngin ng mga foreigners sa atin... mga servant....??? ba't ba lagi pag me appearance ang mga Pinoy may it be film or in a novel laging ang arrive natin tsimay...
siguro ayaw man natin o hindi talagang nakatatak na sa isipan ng ilang foreigners na maids or domestic helpers na nga lang tayo....
*sighs*... kalungkot lang... T_T

message 14: by Lynai (new)

Lynai | 1188 comments Jzhun, gumawa ka ng nobela na ang mga Pilipino ay mga CIA agents o di kaya mga ala Robert Langdon. Masaya yun. ;)

message 15: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments Now that you said it I think I'll ba able to meet the task... Kahit mga family members namin yan ang sinasabi...
yaan mo pag naka-conceive na ko ng magandang plot I'll publish it as an online novel... kasi baka walang maging publisher ito ehh...
nyehehehe... ^_^

Honestly, I don't really mind if foriegners associate Filipinos with servants.. It's sad but I refuse to let that define me. People will always have their misconceptions, after all, and I think the best way to overcome that would be by showing them that I'm more than just that.
I get annoyed though when intentionally try to put us down just because we're known for our domestic helpers. That's just spiteful and naiinis ako pag ganun. ehehehe

message 19: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (JenJen1221) I'm reading Emma and A Company of Swans

message 20: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (JenJen1221) Hi Marco...It okay so far...some chapters are slow, others are fun to read...I love it when Emma has a conversation with Mr. Knightley (these seem to be my favorite parts so far)

Almost done with Chocolat.

message 23: by Maryse (new)

Maryse (belle_maryse) | 151 comments Currently reading Carmilla by Le Fanu. One of the best vampire stories I've ever read, and I'd probably be done with it if I wasn't struggling with the PDF. Anyway, I wish Tim Burton would do a movie version of this book. I bet it would be visually stunning.

I've also just finished "Snow, Apples and Glass" by Neil Gaiman. It's a short retelling of Snow White from the Queen's point of view. And, oh, Snow White is a vampire. Ehehehehe

message 24: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments I'm on a different rudder, guys...
I'm reading more of Ken Follett...
Will start the long and daunting Pillars of the Earth... after I have made a review of the Eye of the Needle...

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

It was really fun to read. Glad you nominated it.
I'll be hunting for the sequel, as soon as I get home.

In that case, you better stay away from James Patterson's books. It'll probably just take 2 hours to read. Ehehehe

You're welcome Faye; great to be of service. ^_^

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

The truth was I'm also reading The Girl Who Played with Fire (aside from our current group read) which was pretty slow for me. I really thought this sequel will surpass it's predecessor, but it failed. It was like a tele-series and the sex stuffs were wayyyy overboard, maybe it was just me. And I am too much of a coward to tell the other group how I thought about it since they are so enthusiastic and has high hopes for this book. Shall I tell?

I already started on "Shadow of the Wind" two nights ago. I'm having fun reading it. It's fun hearing the old Spanish accent through Daniel in my head, feels like I'm home again.
