This is the thread for Chapter 12 of Seveneves. I hope you're all enjoying it so far, let us know all your thoughts :) (but no spoilers for later parts of the book please!)

If you could meet the characters from the book, would you?
Do you like the storyline?
Are there any surprising moments?

Krazyaboutbooks | 17 comments I feel that the whole situation with the Arkies was avoidable only if Ivy had been more open with them and understood that human don't like living in tiny enclosed spaces with little change and little to no interaction with those of the Genpop as this leads to susceptible people believing in Propaganda spun by shady characters.

I most definitely agree. So I really was not enjoying the whole 'Arkie' and "GenPop' split which happened in this section and let me just say I so wished that Julia just keeled over and died already!! I just didn't find it anywhere near as interesting as all the stuff we've had going on up to this point where we have seen not only survival and extreme missions but adaptation to this lifestyle. Flipping Julia swoops in and tries her best to really screw everything up, and I have to just say that I really hated her character (which I suppose is a good thing as I don't think she's designed to be likeable).
As for Ivy and her status I mean I understood where she was coming from but as you say if she'd been a little more understanding initially or paid that bit more attention then none of this 'split' would have had to go on...

The whole Big Ride was pretty anticlimactic for me in the end. I don't know if it was because we got so heavily into the science at some points that I didn't fully appreciate everything or if it just wasn't written as well as it could have been but I kind of expected more...

With that said the cannibalism was certainly NOT something I had been predicting happening and waiting until there's just 11 people on board to go back and join up again was a tad on the crazy side! But unexpected!

As for the ending of Part 2 with the 'Seven Eves' (by the way I like what he did there with the title referring to the Bible and so on as opposed to 7 evenings as I had originally assumed). I thought that the talk about all the genetic modification was very interesting and the disagreements and such were fun to see unfolding.

Overall the end was a little sudden but I felt as though the book could easily have cut off there... We'll see how part 3 is tomorrow when I (hopefully) finish up the book!
