This is a proving to be a fine novel. I'm about half way in, and I'm extremely impressed.

Finished.

I found this book to be inspiring, and full of hope. I am completely in shock that this book hasn't received more attention. This book should have made Lansdale a star!

Some have compared this work to "To Kill A Mockingbird", I surely wouldn't say that. I find Lansdale's voice distinct, strong, poignant and unto his own. A moving work.

5 stars on this one.

JDB | 64 comments I finally read this and I have to agree with Kevin. This is a beautifully crafted story and I am shocked that it was never brought to my attention until finding it in this reading group.

I do find similarities to Mocking Bird, but more or less in a nod to that book and not so much as a different take on the story.

Lansdale is definitely on my radar. I plan on loading up my shelf's with some of his work. I heard The Drive-in is great in a whacky odd way, so I may give that one a go next.

James | 43 comments A great novel from my all-time favorite writer. I've been keeping my fingers crossed that something comes of the movie adaptation -- last I heard Bill Paxton is attached to direct, which is fantastic! Paxton proved he could do "Southern Gothic" with his vastly underrated horror film FRAILTY back in the late 90s.
