Charles Vega is also known as Karl Lazer, and is Ivy's dad in the MSTV series. This is his discussion, so let's have a conversation about him!

Loved the storyline where Ivy thought he was her adopted dad but then he's actually her bio-dad!!! EPIC...

Cool. I do that with the later ones, but seeing as they came out pretty recently, I haven't read them as many times as the older ones.

Just read a part in Revamped (MSTV #3), where it mentions in passing the fact that Charles has two sisters - and I was like what the hell? It was when Olivia and Ivy didn't know he was their dad, or that he was Karl Lazer, but they were looking at Karl Lazer's file at ASHH and it said his family was his parents, and three kids; Kat, Karl and Karina.

I just thought it was weird that his sisters have never been mentioned again, not even in Love Bites (MSTV #6) where they go to Transylvania and meet his parents, or at his and Lillian's wedding, I mean, wouldn't they have been invited? (yes, we didn't actually see that wedding but it could have been mentioned) Does anybody think they might be in a future book later in the series? I think that would be interesting, but maybe Sienna Mercer has just forgotten she mentioned it?

I think shes just forgotten - I mean it was a passing comment wasn't it?

Yeah, you're probably right. I wonder what happened to them. I guess they were pretty stubborn like the Count and Countess and maybe just weren't as quick to forgive Charles. That would probably make sense.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. I just re-read Love Bites (MSTV #6) recently and at one point Horatio makes a passing comment to Ivy about how Charles used to play in the palace with his brothers. That doesn't fit, first he had sisters, now he has brothers??? What is going on! I guess it's a mistake. Or maybe he has brother and sisters. No, wait a second, if that were true his brothers would have been in the ASHH file. Must be a mistake, right?

Mistake alert! We are so nerdy (and cool, duh!) :D

Lol. I think it's the first mistake we've spotted so far though and this is the sixth book so Sienna Mercer did do pretty well (so far anyway).

He's the quote from Love Bites:

And here's a quote from Revamped.
Olivia turned the page, and her gaze fell on a creased black-and-white photograph of a stern looking vampire couple with their three children: a little girl and two boys. Behind them, an imposing castle loomed ominously. 'The Lazer Clan, Covasna' read the ornate caption. 'Count Rolen and Countess Rochette with children Kat, Karl and Karina.'

So Charles did have a brother, but just one. He also had a sister, but again just one. Hope that makes sense Emi. What Daisy was saying was that in Revamped he had (or so we thought) two sisters and then in Love Bites all of a sudden he has brothers. So Sienna Mercer may have made a mistake but so did we!

The first quote, the one from Love Bites, said the word "brothers" with an s. Do you think it's a typo?

Most probably or she just didn't make a note of what siblings he had.

@ message 19 Sophie Yes, I did think Kat was a girl and didn't pay attention to when it said one girl and two boys were in the picture. Just assumed Kat would be a girl. It seems like an unusual name for a boy, maybe it's short for something???

Oh yeah, another thing, in the quote from Revamped it says the Count and Countess are called Rolen and Rochette, yet later on, in Love Bites, it says their names are Nicholas and Caterina. That's got to be a mistake.

I noticed that but I thought it must be their last names. Guess not as they are different.

No their last name is Lazer.

Yo guys, I wanted to talk about what we think of Charles's character throughout the MSTV series. Personally I think in from Sercrets and Spies (MSTV #15) onwards he doesn't really feel like the same character as he was in the earlier books. He's a lot more childish and gets crazily obsessed with work (he's always been kind of a workaholic I think but the whole museum thing in Secrets and Spies just felt really unrealistic to me). Before he was quite suave and dignified, now he seems quite energetic and doesn't seem to take as much of an interest in Ivy and Olivia's lives. He seems to have slipped into the whole 'annoyingly childish dad' cliche which I really don't think he was before.

The main thing that made me want to talk about this was a line in Fangs for the Memories:

Rising to his feet, Charles wrapped his arms around Olivia in a warm and uncharacteristic hug.

Since when it it uncharacteristic of him to give his daughter a hug? I get the impression he's quite a conserved guy, but I can totally imagine him showing affection to his kids. Any of you think this was weird?

So, what do you guys think of this? Is this all in my head, or do you think Charles's character became quite inconsistent too? Or do you think this is him just getting older (or the twins getting older, so they're less open to hugs from their dad) - or even a mid-life crisis?! :D

Alright, I have more on the Charles's siblings mystery we talked about earlier in this thread! In Fangs for the Memories (MSTV#18) he said this:

"As soon as all this business with Jackson is over, I insist that you [Ivy] call your grandparents in Transylvania to give them the good news [Ivy's new power] yourself. My parents will be thrilled . . ." His lips curved into an outright smirk. "And my sisters will be very jealous, because not one of their children has had this happen. I only wish I could be there to seetheir reactions!"

So I guess this confirms he has sisters like the ASHH file said (maybe when Horatio said about his brothers he was just remembering wrong or something - it was like 200 years ago :D ) but now they have KIDS?! How did we not know about this? He's saying this in front of Ivy so her and Olivia must know they have cousins. Do you think they've met them? Will they be in it in future? Let's discuss!

Haha Charles is having a mid-life crisis, that could be it! A hug shouldn't be uncharacteristic, right at the beginning of the series he was cold to Olivia but since then I'm fairly certain he's given them plenty of hugs.

The sibling thing is so weird. Surely Ivy and Olivia would want to meet their cousins, maybe they have already but I feel like that's something that should at least have been mentioned if not shown. This doesn't mean Charles doesn't have a brother/s because it could be that it's just his sisters who would be jealous. Maybe his bro/s don't have children.

Absolutely - I can definitely picture Charles hugging Olivia and Ivy and I'm sure him doing so has been mentioned plenty of times. It doesn't add up! Actually (this might be getting a little too in-depth!) do you reckon it was the nature of the hug that was uncharacteristic? I don't really know what kind of hug would be un-Charles-like in Sienna Mercer's eyes though.

That's a good point that Charles's bros might not have kids. I totally agree Ivy and Olivia would want to meet their cousins - and their aunts for that matter! I don't think it's already happened given how close together in time the books are set - there just isn't enough room in between books for all that to happen. Though they must have been at Charles's wedding, right? If they have met it seems weird that this is the first mention we're getting. I'd love to see them in future books - do you think we will?

I don't even know about the hug situation, so weird! I'm not sure if we will see their cousins but I really hope we do because that sounds awesome. I love seeing more family dynamics in books.

"You act surprised." Charles frowned. "I'm cool. I'm hip." He turned on the spot, modelling his admittedly very suave-looking tuxedo.

I laughed so much at this part in Date with Destiny (MSTV #10). Charles is pretty cool. I only vaguely remember his character progression in the next few books so I'm excited to re-read them and pay more attention.
