I encounter books at the bookstore that I am iffy on, all the time. I figured it would be so much easier if I made a discussion where we can ask the other members about those books.
If anyone has any books that they are uncertain of, post them here. If anyone has read any of these books, let us know if they were good. :)

Here are a few I recently found...
Has anyone read them?
Were they good?

Assassin's Apprentice Part I-J.B. Redmond
Swoon-Nina Malkin
Sea Change-Aimee Friedman
Vampire Kisses-Ellen Schreiber
Led Astray by a Rake The Husband Hunters Club-Sara Bennett
Scandal Becomes Her-Shirlee Busbee

Jackie M | 452 comments I've read Vampire Kisses and to me it's just ok. It's not awful or anything. I bought the first three of the series for my daughter and she really likes them and I read them when I don't have anything else to read.

Are they like the typical YA vampire books?

message 4: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 452 comments In my opinion they are not anywhere near Vampire Academy or House of Night. They are true YA style books as they are very tame.

BK Blue (paradoxically) Well I have already bought these, so I guess it's a little too late. It was at a thrift store though, so it's okay. What do you guys think about these?

Wicked Widow
The Birth of Venus A Novel
Case Histories A Novel
Black and Blue A Novel (this one is for my mom, looks too depressing for me!)

I also got the hardcover version of The Historian, but I used to own the paperback version. I lost it when I loaned it out to a friend. So I know I like it already, lol.

new_user Zarifina, I haven't read those in particular, but I can tell you Whiteside and Holly are pretty spicy and have aggressive heroes. Judith Tarr writes well, but her characters are not that charismatic and imo, she drags with unnecessary scenes/details (coming from someone who likes details).

Wicked Widow was my favorite Amanda Quick novel, this was before she went fully mystery writer.

message 9: by BK (new)

BK Blue (paradoxically) Good to know! I have read some other of her books before, and I liked most of them. But you never know, lol.

I read [book:Black and Blue
years ago and completely recommend it. It is a little bit depressing, but I found it to be a very engrossing, emotional story with great characters.

message 11: by BK (new)

BK Blue (paradoxically) Well in that case, I'll give it a try. My mom has already started reading it though, so I will have to wait. lol

Good, I hadn't heard anything about them so I was hesitant.

I haven't read Wicked Widow but have read a few of Amanda Quick's other novels and they've been pretty good. This one sounds interesting. I have to add it to my TBR.

The Birth of Venus I did read. It was good, but got a bit weird for me in the end. I thought the writing was beautiful though.

Michelle (shadowrose) I've been rather curious about the following:

Water for Elephants
The Alchemyst
American Gods
The Time Traveler's Wife

message 16: by BK (new)

BK Blue (paradoxically) I have American Gods, and I enjoyed it. I love mythology too, so that probably helped a little bit. It's not really one of those you can read in one sitting, there is a lot going on.

message 17: by new_user (new)

new_user The Time Traveler's Wife looks like something Nicholas Sparks would write. Sad. LOL.

new_user, you're right, it does!! I kind of want to read it just to see what the hoopla is about, but i'm not so sure about it

message 19: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) The Time Traveler's Wife is a great book. I read a lot of bad reviews here but I thought it was a great book!
She wrote the book like a diary...You were always reading Henry or Clare.
I found out after I read it that a movie was coming out and I can't wait to see it.

message 20: by Angelc (new)

Angelc | 16 comments Thanks, Elvia! It's good to hear something good about it!

message 21: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shadowrose) Thank you, I think I've decided on American Gods and I read an excerpt of Time Traverlers and it seems very interesting. So it shall be added to my tbr list soon.

message 22: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) I have American Gods on my TBR list I think...at least I do at the library. I'm #14 on the hold list. lol

message 23: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I liked Time Travelers, others seem to either hate it or love it. Good thing is the movie is coming out and the trailer looks pretty good.

I just found Cry Sanctuary by Moira Rogers, and was wondering if anyone has read it? If so, was it good?

message 26: by Angelc (new)

Angelc | 16 comments I haven't read these, Joy, but Immortal looks really good!

I read Water for Elephants with a book group. Absolutely amazing!! I tell the host of the book group to choose another "Water for Elephants". I have loaned this book to several friends and with apprehension they have read it. They have all enjoyed it. As much as me? I don't know but it is definitely a book worth reading.

I thought so too. I saw it at Barnes and Noble yesterday... :)

stormhawk | 1184 comments American Gods is the only book on anybody's list that I've read. It's been several years since I read it, but I really enjoyed it. Once you figure out where the book has been and where it's going it's even cooler that you first thought.
