Ethereal (Celestra, #1) by Addison Moore

I'm going to admit that Addison Moore is something of a name in self-publishing and have heard that she's going/has gone mainstream recently. Nonetheless, she's still far from a household name and I do feel her books are an example of how fun and committed a self-published series of books can be.

If I had to put The Celestra Series in a nutshell based on the five books I've read so far:
- Extremely sarcastic/sporadically idiotic heroine who is treated like the universe's personal chew-toy.
- Her almost comically dysfunctional family and absurdly mental small town she's moved to.
- Romance that plays out like a game of musical chairs.
- Brutal, startling violence

Okay, now all of that may not sound enticing but if you approach it with the mentality that Celestra isn't meant to be taken seriously it's a riot.

To clarify, I'm NOT suggesting you read the book to mock it but understand it's presented in an almost cartoonish interpretation of YA paranormal romance that is not presented in a melodramatic or tormented light. The main character, Skyla, jokes about her misfortune enough that it's black humor going on gallows. She's not taking her peril seriously, so why should you?

First 3 books in the series are .99 cents on Amazon.

Anne Berkeley (aberkeley) I love the Celestra series. To think that Addison Moore can keep your interest eight books and still going, she's certainly talented.

I know what you mean. I've been so burnt out on PNR set in a high school so the humor of this was a great change.
