What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

This was a fantasy book, with magic.

It had a viking like leader antagonist who became possessed, and set out to kill mythical creatures who had godly spirits (something heavenly or pure) embodied in them.

He uses his fleet to ram and kill the whale for sure.

There was a scene of his fleet trying to invade, by sea, some land. The land had druids/wizards that kept blowing a strong wind to push the fleet away. They had to do it constantly, and some of the druids/wizards were dropping dead from over exerting themselves.

The main protagonist is captured at one point by amazons (or female rogues). He has to be led through their camp, which is in some forested dwelling. They blind fold him because the very sight of the place will drive him mad with ecstasy. It was supposed to be Eden like. Even though he's blind folded, just the very sounds of the place nearly drives him mad with ecstasy. When they pass, and he's unblindfolded, he feels ashamed about being so weak afterwards.

So, any ideas?

This was more than 10yrs ago. And I believe the book was maybe 10yrs older than that. So it was written in the 90s, 80s, 70s?

I'm confident that it was part of a long fantasy series. Maybe not with the same characters, but set in the same universe perhaps?

I think there were other books from the series to choose from when I read it, but chose it because maybe the cover looked more interesting. I don't remember what it looked like though.

The book was

"Darkwalker on Moonshae", by Douglas Niles.

It was the first book in the Moonshae trilogy. It was also the first novel set in the Forgotten Realms universe.
