Shadow Study - Book 4!

Love the title and also the possible title of the second book!
And ever since you announced on your fb page that it's going to be out soonish, I've been wanting to reread the other three hehe.
Lucky me that I still have the Glass trilogy on my shelf to read to sweeten the wait until Shadow Study is released! :-D

Thank you for the info and hope to see you in Cedar Rapids!

I suggest you read the Study books first and then Glass - it makes the most sense that way. I'm working on revisions for SHADOW STUDY now, but haven't started NIGHT STUDY yet - I plan to do that as soon as the revisions are done.
I hope to meet you in Cedar Rapids, too! It should be fun as I haven't been to Iowa and I'm really looking forward to the trip.

No you don't need to read the Glass books, but I would recommend it :) Shadow Study isn't coming out until March 2015 now (the tentative January date has been moved back to a tentative March date) so you have a year to squeeze in a little reading ;)

I 2nd this!! Oh boy, oh boy; I'm so glad we're going to get more wonderful books to read from Maria (:

Good luck with that Izzy! :) I'm hoping to have some time to write a short story about one or two of the characters to help with the wait. No guarantees - I'll have to see how much time I have between books.

is night study available already?? i've done reading until ice study, and I'm currently reading spy glass... :) do i have to finish all the glass series before reading the shadow study or night study?? i really love the story and i really love the way Maria Snyder write, she's awesome, it's so worth it to read all her books... :)

No - Night Study is not available - it is Study book #5 and won't be out until 2016 - I'm working on it now. Shadow Study is Study book #4 and that will be out March 2015. I will also be writing Study book #6 - but that doesn't have a title or a pub date. I hope this helps!

I'm not sure. I don't plan my books out in advance. I get a general idea for a plot and sit down and write. It is during the writing process where all the neat details and plot twists occur. I do like Kade and I know he'll be in one of the upcoming Study books, I just don't know how much or what he'll be doing.

Is Zitora having a comeback?
What about Kade? I liked him.

I do have sections from Janco's POV in SHADOW STUDY - he is such a fun character to write.
As for Zitora, I'm hoping to bring her back. Not sure yet how, perhaps a short story or novella about her quest and what she encounters while trying to find her sister.

I'm not too good at managing my impulsivity but I found a way to keep Shadow Study off my mind: I'll read the Inside Out series really slowly.

I was always curious as to what happens next, regarding Zitora.
This all sounds just so very awesome-sauce; can't wait to read it all :))

I did sent out a section from Janco's POV to my newsletter subscribers and I'm working on getting the first chapter up - which I'll give my subscribers a peek first before making it available to everyone. Did I miss something? I'd love an explanation.

Hi Deanna! That's a great question. My thoughts about the Commander are that when his mother's soul entered him, his body changed from male to female. It's due to her magic and if he decides to send his mother's soul to the sky, he will change back to his original gender.
I hope this helps!

Hi Maria! I'll be posting more updates about Night Study in November - right now I'm doing promotion to celebrate Poison Study's 10th anniversary, but when that's done, I'll have time to do more with Night Study.
-- It is tentatively scheduled to be released early 2015 in the US, but I'm sure the UK and AU will be releasing the book very close to the US date.
-- Yelena and Valek's POV will alternate chapters, starting with Yelena.
-- There may be sections of Janco's POV (working that out with my editor)
-- The reason the book is titled, SHADOW STUDY is because during Valek's chapters, there are a number of flashbacks to his past and the place where he learned how to be an assassin is called, The School of Night and Shadows.
-- The second of the new set of Study books (3 planned in all) is tentatively titled, NIGHT STUDY. No title for #3 yet!
-- As for the story - it starts soon after the events in SPY GLASS. Valek is returning to Ixia because the Commander has ordered him home - seems crafty smugglers have found a new route into Ixia and he needs Valek and Ari and Janco to investigate.
-- After an all too brief vacation with Valek, Yelena has to deal with an increasing anti-magician sentiment from the Sitian Council and she goes on a mission to find Ben Moon (Owen Moon's brother). Ben escaped from Wirral prison. Ben had tried to kill Yelena after Owen was executed in Ixia. To read the story about Owen Moon's nefarious deeds go here (in fact, Ben has a pretty big part in SHADOW STUDY so you may want to go and re-read the story before January). http://www.mariavsnyder.com/IceStudy.php
-- Familiar characters that are in SHADOW STUDY - Leif, Mara, Opal, Devlen, Reema, Bain, Irys, Maren, Fisk, and Kiki of course!
-- New characters - Onora (young hot shot female assassin), Gerik (new soldier for the Commander's detail), Ben Moon, Hedda (Head Mistress of the school of Night and Shadows), and Arbon (a fellow assassin trainee that was in school with Valek).
I hope that satisfies some of the curiosity (or did I make it worse?)
