by Jamison Stone

---
Filled with magic and mystery, Rune of the Apprentice is an action-packed epic of adventure, love, and self-discovery.
---
In a world where magic, technology, and nature have merged, the few who can control Runes hold dominance over all of creation. All naturally believe that Aleksi, a sixteen-year-old orphan, was blessed to be born with a Rune embedded in his palm, but that’s only because they don’t know the truth—Aleksi’s Rune is so powerful, it’s killing him.
Asura, a brutal emperor who uses Runes to conquer entire continents, will stop at nothing to kill Aleksi and claim the boy’s power for his own. With his Rune burning its way through his body and assassins trying to cut out his heart, Aleksi is forced to seek out an infamous man wanted for crimes against humanity: Aleksi’s missing mentor, Rudra.
With visions of his parents’ murder haunting his days and the prophetic whispers of a young captive priestess illuminating his nights, Aleksi will only be able to unravel the mysteries of his past, rescue the girl in his dreams, and defeat the most powerful warlord the world has ever known if the one thing keeping Aleksi alive—his Rune—does not kill him first.

https://www.inkshares.com/projects/ag...
---

---
Alessandra has spent her extraordinarily long life in hiding because she is unlike anyone else. She has a secret that could change the world. Buried somewhere in her genetic code is the key to extended life, possibly immortality.
After being experimented on by as a child, Aless will do whatever it takes to keep herself hidden from Special Agent Mark Richards of the CIA; a man anxious for retribution after the murder of a loved one.
With eight decades of basically being alone and on the run, can she come to trust Grey Chapman, a new ally, or has she finally grown tired of running?
If you could live forever, would it be worth it?

A god-king's dream of immortality has all but faded in what remains of his shattered empire. Rena, a weaver, will soon discover that her skill with cloth is more than it seems, for she is the god-king's long lost daughter, and as such has inherited his abilities. Will she be able to master her magical gift to win back her father's throne? Or will the empire remain one of darkness and corruption?
___
For two hundred years, a man named Azzadul transcended the bounds of mortality, discovering a supernatural power accessible through the creation of special forms of art. But twenty years ago, he vanished. Some say he still lives, some that he was murdered. Now, with an empty throne, his empire is still in the midst of turmoil as his divided followers vie for power, uncertain if he will return. In Gholheim, his former seat, ruthless King Fyrian, head of the Keldarians who now control the empire, rules with reforms bent on suppressing any kind of artistic expression and thus obliterating any possible practice of magic which might threaten him.
Rena has a mystical ability to see patterns, a gift that allows her to weave brilliant cloth by intuition, rather than skill. By day she is a seamstress, but by night she is a criminal, creating wonderful artwork in secret. Yet secrets last only so long. Soon Rena’s activities are discovered by her uncle and she is summoned to King Fyrian’s court, where she is appointed to be his Mistress of Cloth. Rena leaves her old home and enters the corrupt halls of Gholheim’s royal palace, and there she encounters one of Azzadul’s former advisers who claims she is the god-king’s lost daughter. Her call to the king’s court is a tactful ruse, one the king himself doesn’t know about, for a group of conspirators is soon about to close in on Gholheim, unless Rena can harness her full power and claim the throne that is rightfully hers. Rena’s victory will mean the restoration of true freedom and magic—the dream of her father reclaimed—and the dawn of a life for Rena where she is no longer afraid to be true to herself.

From the time he first looked at Tolkien's map of Wilderland as a ten year old boy, John Robin knew he was destined to make his own world and tell stories about it. So, as he grew up and read the great fantasy epics, he began to create his own world with its own stories, history, and myths.
Over twenty years, he learned the craft of storytelling, writing three novels just for practice (unpublished), and all the while his fantasy world and unique vision as a writer ripened. The evolution of the Internet and the exciting possibilities of what technology just might do for human beings further inspired John to model his magic system and epic tale to also communicate a message about how mastery over one's environment might change the human condition.
After working for many years in academia and adult education, John left his job to pursue a career as a full-time editor, starting his own company, Story Perfect Editing Services. He has edited more than forty stories to date.
John's work has appeared in the Tantalizing Tidbits anthology (“One Who Waits”, a prequel short story to Blood Dawn). Blood Dawn is the first of many stories John plans to write in a series of stand-alone novels that will follow the evolution of a world undergoing magical revolution.

Fueled to urgency by a dire prophecy, she stretches her influence far and wide, carefully building her allies up while breaking her enemies down. As she manifests her will through schemes and lies, those closest to her begin to doubt the sanctity of her vision as its costs pile up. Could her well-intentioned interference cause more harm than good?

~Short~
After finding out the truth of her past, Mahren must leave everything behind and embark on a journey through love, betrayal, and sacrifice, while her fate may already be written in the Stars, for the Prophecy states: 'She must die, so all may live'.
~Long~
Mahren’s heritage was once held sacred among the people, now it means certain death. Change comes just days after she learns the real reason she has had to live a lie; hiding behind the guise of a young boy. That change comes in the form of Raiff Finlon, a childhood friend she has secretly loved for the whole of her life. His is a haunted past, and that pain of his soul will set them both on a journey into darkness. Perhaps it is already written in the stars, or maybe it is just a reckless decision that makes him follow her that day. There, hidden among beauty, he finds the lie. Overwhelmed by grief and hurt, Raiff sends Mahren away, hoping to protect their town, hoping to right a terrible wrong… hoping to never see her again.
Johnquil Mason is Mahren’s father. He is not about to let her leave, until she reveals another truth. Realizing his daughter is the one foretold in the sacred prophecy, he believes as so many others do, that she is the only one who can restore the Balance and wield a powerful weapon that can defeat Emperor Kahrus. There is just one problem, they have no idea where that weapon is.
Unbeknownst to John, it may already be too late. Emperor Kahrus has been on a quest of his own. He needs to find the one who holds the power of three. After starting the war with the people over twenty years ago, he slowly destroyed the world of the Sceleste. He killed them all, one by one; stealing their power and merging it with his own. Now that dark power controls him. He needs it to survive; he needs her or the power will consume him. He is drawn to a small town in the North. Instead of finding Mahren, he finds Raiff. Using the connection Raiff has with Mahren, he curses Raiff with a terrible and dark obsession; an unnatural need to find her. Having no choice, Raiff sets out with a group of brutal soldiers to track Mahren down and bring her to the Emperor.
Though Mahren is far from home, she is not out of danger. She continues to keep her disguise. In her search for the weapon, she finds Samuel Thomas; a man with a secret of his own. Certain he is connected in some way, she befriends Samuel, only to find that his business partner, Wilhem, hates the Sceleste, like most people. Yet his anger runs deep with a violent passion. Somehow, she must find a way to get the answers she seeks, while Samuel’s need to help others, along with his mysterious past, draws her to him in a way she cannot long ignore.
When John finds out that Kahrus now hunts his daughter, there is only one thing left for him to do. Tired of running, tired of hiding, it is now time to fight. He must inspire change, by giving the people of their small town the courage to stand up with him and take back all that has been stolen from them. Change is in the air, and it will start with the people of Serhena Valley, a place so named for peace.
~About me or 'Why' I write~
So that is the ‘what’, yet here is the ‘why’. I am a stay-at-home mom, who loves stories; especially the ones that teach us something about who we are, or make us think about not just the world we live in, but the possibilities of ‘what if’. I know the ability to dream is not entirely exclusive to the human consciousness, but awareness is, and it is through the sharing of our dreams, creating stories, that is the unbreakable bond of our human existence. I once had someone tell me they thought Fantasy was ridiculous; fairy tales and magic—children’s stuff and make-believe. So untrue. To me, it is through the genre of fantasy where the key to the human spirit can be found. Not just the fun of creating something out of nothing, because in a way, that’s not true either, but the idea that these grand and epic tales of heroism amidst a seemingly unbeatable and awesome darkness, where the smallest of us has the chance to prevail, can easily teach us about our own trials and heartaches that drive us, that push us forward—it is truth, wrapped up in a fantasy. During the ten years I was writing this, I went from thinking I was unable to have children, not knowing if I even wanted children, to the amazing miracle of my son’s birth. I’ve seen life struggle and survive. I have also seen life struggle and lose. She was a new friend, a new neighbor, and she was an amazing mother with boundless energy. I only knew Bethany for three years, but she was the kind of sweet and caring soul that would offer to help in a moment’s notice despite her own personal problems; a rare thing these days. Two years ago she came to me with the news that she was pregnant. She wanted many children, but they didn’t think she would conceive again, so this was great and awesome news for her and her husband, and their almost five-year-old son. But it was only a few weeks later when she told me that she had lost it, and they were going to test her for breast cancer. The tests were positive, and it was already spreading. They went after it aggressively, even with brand new treatments that were still experimental. Through it all she smiled and helped wherever she could. She shared her experience with others who needed hope and encouragement, she volunteered to sandbag and help those who were suffering from local flooding in our area, even while she was on chemo. She raised her son, celebrated his fifth birthday one year ago this month, and prayed and thanked God for every milestone she got to witness. As hard as she fought, Bethany lost her battle this past February. She was only 41-years-old. I am 41. Others lose too; some even win. They fight, they have battle scars, and they bear the traumas both physically and mentally, yet they continue on as best they can. They heal. Fantasy stories can be laid out, like tracing paper, over our own lives. The battles and the characters are the same; the human spirit, the soul that smiles on in the face of danger, is us looking back at ourselves. My want and need to write comes from many places, but Bethany’s story, and others like hers, is the ‘why’.

I will be adding in to this in a day or two (or three), as soon as I get the cover art figured out for mine.

Melissa here you go:

3) If you love LotR, Harry Potter, and The Hunger Games, ENHANCED should be on your list.
Refugees from embattled Earth share what remains of their technology with Second Earth’s primitive, genetically Enhanced natives. Now that they understand what Enhancement means, growing numbers believe all natives are a threat to Mainstreamers. Citizens disappear. Landers explode. Local authorities do nothing. Searching for their friend, unlikely allies find no one outside the mainstream is safe.
4) People from Earth arrive on Second Earth 50 years before our story begins. They expect it to be uninhabited. Instead, they find two races of people with violet eyes. One race is very similar to themselves, the other is smaller, hairless, and mostly silent. There’s no electronic tech, transportation is by foot or ox-drawn cart. But both races seem to be deeply spiritual and artistic even though they don’t appear to have much to do with each other.
Because the people from Earth have the tech they brought with them, they assume the dominant role and call themselves Mainstreamers. They call all the natives Genics, and slowly discover the Genics are genetically Enhanced. 50 years later, a bunch of politically ambitious Mainstreamers insist to any who will listen that Genics are a threat to Mainstream culture.
Enter the protagonists. Ellisyn, a 17-year old science whiz who works at the Tech Center, witnesses a lander explode and gets drawn into a racist conspiracy that changes her life and how she sees her home.
Her best friend, Tadeh is a gay 17-year old happily sharing his artistic expertise with elderly Firsters in the new field of Assisted Living. When one of his friends goes missing, he discovers lots of people are missing, but local authorities aren’t doing anything to find them. When he and Ellisyn go searching for their friend, they begin to suspect the missing people are somehow connected to the explosion.
Second Earth will never be the same.
5) S.T. Ranscht is a single mom and storyteller/writer earning her living as a seamstress/costumer. She graduated from SDSU with a BA in Dramatic Arts with an English Lit minor. That pesky need to eat led her to a career with the Forest Service and 2 years in San Francisco -- the longest 11 years of her life. Eternally grateful to return to San Diego, she attended law school at USD, and gave up the glamor of Civil Service to become a Licensed Child Care Provider so she could stay home with her new baby son, and costume for a children’s theatre organization. Throughout it all, she never stopped writing and telling stories. She's dedicated to the belief that kids who feel like they're outside the Mainstream deserve strong literary role models of their own. All those kids she cared for heartily approved.
Robert P. Beus is a writer currently working in the insurance industry. He grew up singing, dancing, choreographing, and directing in San Diego. Now he is an active performer and founding member of Musical Mondays at Rage in West Hollywood, where his Turkey Lurkey and Liza are renown. As a proud member of LA’s gay community, he has become an outspoken critic of anti-gay politicians, anti-gay legislation, and discrimination of any kind. He lives in West Hollywood.
John, please let me know if there's anything else I need to do to make this work. Thanks!

The mind can be a dangerous place: intellectual freeways with neurological hazards at every turn. Time for one man to drive boundlessly to find where he made a wrong turn, with no directions as where to go.
...
A mind wrench where two stories are intertwined. John Howard is a regular young man. He has a girlfriend, a job at a law firm, and he usually does nothing too crazy and does well at blending in. He doesn't even have to try. Thirty six hours go by, and then our story begins. Johnny walks into the scene a bloodied wreck with a headache so bad it feels as if his head has been crushed by two semis. Worse off then that, he has no idea who's blood is on him, where he is, and how he got there. The only persistent memories are--
The year is 3027, and the intergalactic race: The Zerseck 6,000 Tri-Universal is gearing up. Everyone is a bit more on edge and with good reason. There has been a new species that has found it's way to Earth, the location of this Zerseck. No one knows what they are; there are guesses to where they may have originated, but no solid proof. A myriad of characters are all in the race, including: Mylan Kresge, a renowned shape-shifting linguist who makes up his own words as he goes, but this competition is especially important, for the winner(s) of this race could lead to the survival of human kind. The terror strikes early, as the unknown creatures crash the party. They have a name, well, one is said of them, one word: 'Makers'; appropriate for those who meet theirs--
Back in the present; Johnny is running for his own life after apparently stealing a cherished motorcycle from a dangerous man, the leader of the 'Fallen Wanderers', a motorcycle gang that is posing a bigger threat now under their new boss. Johnny is not alone, as he is accompanied by one of his dear friends, and the owner of a local newsstand: Jerry Baker.
As Johnny finds his whereabouts and his surroundings in his reality, he is simultaneously racing through his chaotic dream, and the results lead to a neurological break. Jerry can only watch as he sees his friend slip farther and farther into a deranged mental state. If John "Johnny" Howard does not want to lose himself completely, then he has to take a U-Turn At the Next Synapse.

Cory Wyszynski is usually the odd man out, an old soul with a thirst for the absurd. He overwhelms himself and pushes himself to the point of burn out. At least, he has fun while he is doing it.
A lover of improv and a Trumpet player, Cory went to school at West Virginia University, where he graduated with a B.S. in Forensic Chemistry while minoring in Theater. Look above, we all see burn out? Excellent, moving on.
Cory currently lives in Studio City, always running around with what seems to be enough luggage for a small weekend trip to...
He is often heard talking to himself in lieu of 'RaNdoM NonSeNsE', a poorly executed improv podcast that first begun as a pseudo radio show in highschool, playing both characters as they desperately get nothing done. One of his greatest joys was going to a Simpsons table read with his Dad for his 25th birthday.

CONCEPT
In this Battlestar Galactica meets Game of Thrones epic, a noble scientist discovers a strange element that he hopes will cure an ailing king while an egotistical god seeks to use the element to take control of all three realms.
-----
SYNOPSIS
Theo Deus and The Immortal King can be described as an Adult Steampunk Fantasy that explores immortality and what it means to be human. It tells small personal stories and how they have devastating effects on people across the three realms of Earth, the Overworld, and the Underworld.
Dr. Theodore Kemis, an altruistic scientist working for an ailing King, recently comes back from a difficult expedition in the mountains where he discovers a stalactite with strange properties. Upon experimenting with it, he discovers that it may be the answer to curing the King of his condition.
Meanwhile, there are gods who watch from the Overworld to ensure that the fates of the mortals are secure. They are the Balance keepers and do everything in their power to protect it. The Balance is essentially a mystical force that inexorably links these worlds with the beings that exist in them. When they find out that a dangerous object has been unearthed by Dr. Theodore Kemis, they send special agents Filious and Kanious to Earth to maintain the Balance.
Still, there are those who seek to destroy the Balance. Hessic and his sons live out their eternity in the Underworld after being imprisoned by Solus for treason. His two sons, Jinik and Callus, have adjusted well to their new home... but his black sheep of a son, Skegs, feels he has been unjustly punished. Because of this, he will seek to destroy the Balance to meet his own ends.
The King is not everything he seems to be, and he has plans that will send ripples throughout the mortal realm. Meanwhile, a child is born to Theodore and Leeya amidst a dark secret. When the gods in the Overworld see that the fate of the Balance may lie with this child, they take measures to ensure his safety. What they can't anticipate is the dark future that lay ahead, since the Balance has already been offset by events set in motion a millennia ago.

BIO
I have been working on this project for almost 10 years now, but more seriously for the last 5 years. It's been a tremendous passion project of mine, and I thought InkShares would be the perfect opportunity to finally get it done.
The inspiration for this story came from a number of different sources. I've always been a huge fan of steampunk and fantasy. I've also gained inspiration from everything from Back to the Future, Battlestar Galactica, and Disney animated films to flesh out this world's characters and stories.
I would love to hear any and all critiques toward my story as it's an ever-evolving beast. Thanks to everyone who reads this first chapter, and if you like it, please give it a share on social media!

First in a series following a dwarven magus entering a world he grew up only hearing of. As he struggles to find a place for himself in this world he must contend with numerous challenges, ranging from savage brutes to supernatural horrors to perhaps one gnome too many. The most danger may well stem from his own naivete in more practical matters of life and lover, however.
_____________________
Pentaz Muix, a young man native to a reclusive nation of dwarves, feels he has no choice but to flee his homeland in order to escape punishment after revealing his study of magic in order to save his people. As he takes his first clumsy steps out from the isolation of his island home into the wide and varied world of the mainland, he searches for a family to replace the one he has lost.
Along the way he meets a wandering warrior named Buscidia and falls in love with her. Together they wander the mainland learning much of its wilds and cities as well as one another. With their combined skills and resourcefulness they are able to face off against the many perils of their road along the way whether they be cannibalistic dwarves, overly curious gnomes, power hungry spirits and cog monster, or werewolves. Ultimately their most dangerous adversary may well be Pentaz' own fear of losing her.
While he explores the mainland and its many perils, he is unaware that his homeland has not let go of him as easily as he believes. Unbeknownst to him, he is being doggedly pursued by the last surviving member of his family, his brother Palkaz.
Their reunion follows closely on the heels of Pentaz' biggest mistake and tragedy, and they find themselves facing off against one another amidst a danger neither of them had imagined. Can they put aside their differences long enough to survive?

Thomas is above all else a man who hates talking about himself, much preferring to lose himself in a story of his own or another's crafting. His chief past times are writing, gaming, and world building.
Exile, Magus is the first book in a series he has come to think of as the Thierdenvolgenlunders cycle which follows the Muix family: Pentaz and his brother Palkaz as well as those they meet and most closely befriended by them, then eventually Pentaz' children(a rather large list of names at that, most of whom have decades before being born). The world it is set in is the primary focus of Thomas' world building, and the vast majority of his stories take place either there or in its demon-cursed sister world.
You can find Thomas online at a number of places such as his Facebook page(https://www.facebook.com/redthomasjar...), his woefully neglected blog(http://thomasjarnold.blogspot.com/), Twitter(@Thoasoold), Instagram(redtom.mythmaker), and Goodreads(https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/4...). Feel free to contact him at any of these.

The Sorceress of Menlo Park
By Richard Sloan
Available on Kindle
Since childhood, Joanne's scientific achievements have brought her both praise as 'The Goddess of Natural Forces' and condemnation as 'The Evil Impulse.' She calls herself 'Sorceress'; others call her 'Forbidden Grapes', 'Jezebel', 'Bad Girl', and more. Now twenty three years old, she is developing a microchip forebrain implant to cure a neuromuscular disease. Her project is the First Wave for the B.A.A.L.S. (Bay Area Alliance for Life Sciences), a Consortium of Big Money and Special Interests. If she succeeds, dozens more innovative projects will follow.
However, she is opposed by the United Front Coalition, which is frightened by the dangers, such as mind control, Frankenstein monsters, and the Beast of Revelations. The Coalition members include 'The Wrath of God' - a modern day Prophet Elijah, 'The Red Scourge' - a bioethicist who has stopped many risky projects in their tracks, the arch feminist 'Sisters of Gaia', who consider Joanne a traitor to her gender, 'The Regulator' - a U.S. Senator and possible future president, 'The Deacon' - the chief negotiator for a major labor union, 'Mr. Credibility' - a Stanford University Nobel Prize winner, 'The Loose Cannon' - a reporter embedded in the Coalition, and 'The Dealmaker' - a venture capitalist set on vengeance and power.
The Coalition members confront Joanne in a series of public debates with an intensive discussion of the issues. These include, among others: How far should scientists be allowed to go?, Are we God's children, or God's co-creators?, and How can we save our humanity?. At the same time, the Coalition resorts to stalking and smearing Joanne and interfering in her troubled marriage to 'The Prince' - the scion of one of America's wealthiest, most powerful families. But the more they attack Joanne, the stronger she gets. Can they stop her? Will the Sorceress divide and conquer them first?

“February, 1956: Ten months after the death of Albert Einstein, Lawrence Ronald Howard is born at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts. An average looking child, he gave no outward sign that behind innocent blue eyes, his mind burned with genius.
He will spend a lifetime walking a tightrope, blindly negotiating the dark narrow corridor between brilliance and madness. Unaware that he is guided by forces unseen, Ron embarks on a strategy to hide his genius, to cloak it behind a facade of ordinariness.
To the outside world he is everyman, a simple tradesman without an estate. In truth, he is a giant of his time. Using little more than the power of his own mind he profoundly alters the scientific and political landscape of the twentieth and twenty first centuries.”

Here's the derivation of the name.
I started with Lawrence, which was the city in Massachusetts I was in when I first came up with the idea for the comic strip "Einstein Reincarnated" (which evolved into SecretAgentMan)
I chose the last name "Howard" because I was nine years old and liked the Three Stooges. Moe, Curly and Shemp were brothers with that last name.
Then I filled in the middle name because I was about the same age as Opie Taylor from Andy of Mayberry, who grew up to star in Happy Days and direct Apollo 13.
So the name had Nothing at all to do with Scientology, but I couldn't resist having this character use the pen name L. Ron Howard when he wrote science fiction.

I did this with one of my reader updates, sharing the covers (linked to the Inkshares page) of 5 books I thought were great. I had to go through a lot to get the cover images, so it would be nice if each of us could share some standard things here to make it easier for each of us to promote one another.
What to include:
1) A .jpg of your cover (<600px wide preferred -- larger cover files create problems with the reader update window I've found)
2) Link to your project page
3) Short blurb on your book
4) Longer blurb on your book
5) Short author bio
