Ian Wright (ianmwright) | 6 comments I found a list of eligible works for the 2016 Hugos. I'm not sure if it's a curated list, so it's probably best to double-check if a listed book is actually eligible.

Bill (Just a) Goodread Choice Awards are kicking off. That's a good indicator of what the market is reading in Horror/SF/Fantasy.

There is even one puppy favorite on the list.

Interesting to see David Mitchell listed as "horror." But it was my favorite book that I'd read from the list so it got my vote!

Bill (Just a) I am listening to "Darker Shade of Magic" because like the rest of Goodreads I got a free audible. I must say I a am liking this venture into YA territory. It would never make a traditional award but it is one of the top 15 in the Fantasy category.

It is interesting to look at the number of reviews (fantasy catagory). Jim Butcher's book has 4K reviews. It's in by TBR pile. Darker Shade has 13K. Neil Gaiman has 14K. A book about mated werewolves has 11K. I am curious if the number of reviews is in any way predictive of number of votes.

Bill (Just a) Little Teddy Beale has just opened the Rabid Puppy Goodreads group and is promoting it on his website. It was pointed out that his doggy books didn't do well in the Choice awards either.

His minions indicate they will be policing the reviews here on Goodreads. Here is just one of his minions:

"31. Blogger Red Bane January 02, 2016 10:54 AM
Flagged quite a few 'conduct' reviews. Get busy folks. Work to be done."

Another:

"54. Blogger Achilles January 02, 2016 2:26 PM
Honored by your Goodreads friendship. No safe spaces for the SJWs."

This should be interesting.

Hmm, the group's discussions are visible only to members. I'm tempted to join, but I don't know whether to just try and screencap the discussions, or to actively participate and see how long I last before getting kicked out.

We really need to do some work on the Hugo's this year. Get Gamergate stirred up and involved. Anyone attending other Cons should talk about it. Se if we can get some names to talk about it (like Larry Corriea, for example). Bulk up our numbers. I didn't vote last year, but I will this year.

Bill (Just a) Sean - you have to friend Beale and answer the secret security questions. Some of the pups have forgotten the answer and can't get in.

Bill (Just a) Sean,

Well done. Send me a PM and I will tell you a bit more how Vox got here to begin with.
