Tea and Tales with Cate and Allison discussion

Hey everyone!

Cate and I thought it would be fun to add a section for buddy reads. These are more informal and less structured than the monthly book discussions, and there's no pressure to participate. But if you see a buddy read you'd like to join, or if there's one you want to add, go ahead and post here! Each buddy read will have its own thread where you and anyone else who is participating can write comments as you read, ask questions, and discuss whatever you want!

Our first buddy read will be The Dinvers and Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray. We're planning to read these through September, but we can take longer depending on what participants want. So far, Dory, Cate, and I will be reading these together, and we'd love to have you join us!

I just started re-reading The Diviners, and oh my word, I'm already completely back in the roarin' 20s! I keep finding myself using Eve's expressions, like "It's all Jake!" and "Posi-tute-ly!" Has anyone else started yet?

I just started it yesterday, only about 50 pages in and I'm captivated already! I love that it is set in the 20s! My past couple of reads have been contemporary, so this is great to be transported back in time! Sigh.

I'm about 150 pages into the book and I absolutely love it! This is totally up my alley in regards to genre, story, plot, etc. It is fast becoming a favorite read for 2015. So glad we were able to do this buddy read!

Im starting this book tonight. I have about 30 pages left of the book im reading now.

I really wish we all lived close to each other so that when we finished, we could throw a Diviners party! Get out your flapper dresses and your ouija boards!

Naughty John is terrifying and any scenes with him give me the chills! Ahhhhhh! Great writing by Libba Bray.

Casey, I totally agree! This book definitely gets a bit scary. When I read before going to bed, I can't stop after a Naughty John chapter. He's too creepy!

I don't want to give away anything for those who may not be as far along, but I just finished reading my favourite chapter, thus far. It is called "The Hotsy Totsy". Some of the story lines are starting together and the "Poet" and the "Creole Princess" just met and it was oh so lovely and cute. That is all I will say for now! ;)

I am currently reading several books at the same time due to various book club reads, lol! And I have to say, I'm having a hard time stopping after 50 pages with this book! I just absolutely love everything about it. And yes! I completely agree with you, Casey. I love how all the storylines are coming together and the sexual tension between multiples characters.

I too have a hard time reading the parts about Naughty John at night. They are super creepy!!

How's everyone doing with The Diviners? I am totally swept up in the roarin twenties, and I want to be BFFs with Evie, Sam, Mabel, Jericho, Theta, Henry, Memphis - everyone! Re-reading it, I'm completely awestruck by just how good Libba Bray is with historical fiction. There are so many elements to this book, and it fits into so many categories (mystery, supernatural, fantasy, etc.) that it can be easy to lose sight of the history. But you never do! It's just at atmospheric as other rich historical novels while also having such fun and engaging characters and a twisted plot that keeps you guessing.

What has struck/interested you in The Diviners? Who else wants to bob their hair, put on a flapper dress, and go dancing?!

I totally agree with you both. I am having a tough time reading this book at the pace I usually read books. The Hotsy Totsy chapter was so thrilling to read. Libba Bray just wrote the book so well. I am lookin foreward to reading more of it everyday, as well as discussing more. I love how the plots are starting to link together now.

If I could change one thing about the book so far, it would be to make it quicker in pace, but I cant think of a single thing I wouldn't want to read!

I am also so happy that I'm not behind on the reading compared to the rest of this group. Makes me feel more comfortable.

I beat this book! I have all my notes done for the review and will be writing that today.

I did enjoy it! It was harder for me to continuously read this,maybe the pace of the book just made it harder or something. But I did finish the last 170 pages in one sitting last night since naughty john is SO CREEPY!

I cant wait to start either! I need to wait till my library gets the hard copy to me, I'm first in queue so it should be in a few days.I was going to read the ebook off overdrive, but ebooks just take me even longer to read.

I haven't been able to start Lair of Dreams yet, but I want to so badly!

Im 262 pages into Lair Of Dreams. Its really good. Currently, Im taking a break from it to finish Miss Peregrines and write some reviews. I broke my hand so its been rather hard to type, let alone type.

I finished Lair of Dreams last week! It was SO good and makes me want the next book to come out! I'm sad we have to wait until 2018 for the next installment in the series!! :( Can't wait to discuss with all of you!
