After a long struggle I've decided to put this one down for good, but that's not really what this post is about.

I was the first to suggest this book to be read for this group. I know it takes a lot of votes for a book to win but I still feel pretty bummed that I picked a book no one likes. just wanted to apologize.

Honestly, I thought the nomination was a good one. I read the article from Tor and would have picked this up on my own. Doing it as a group saved me some time because I didn't need to read the whole thing to know it was a bust.

Don't worry about it :) I think a lot of people were super excited for it but it was always one where there were mixed opinions. :)

Hey no worries- I was super excited to get a chance to read this one and I would've picked it up even without being in the group! Honestly, commenting in the group was the one thing helped me get through it (I hate putting down books halfway through) so that was nice.
I did a full review of this one for goodreads but I think my major issues with it were things that everyone else picked up on. It wanted to be the next GRRM but the politics were pretty shallow, the characters largely lifeless, and the dinosaurs relegated to set pieces. (Although the dino jousting was pretty sweet and the cover and illustrations are gorgeous!
It's a shame too because this could've been something really great but I for one am happy to finally have the time to join in the discussion on here. :)

I didn't like this book either but I had low expectations because of all the mixed things that I had heard... The things that annoyed me the most were the worldbuilding (or the more precisely the info-dumping), the lack of politics but also the way female characters were portrayed...
