Which TP book tried to transform the Librarian back into a Human, but he wouldn't let them, and they couldn't anyway because they could not remember what his name was for the life of themselves? Was it "The Last Continent"?

"In a distant forest a wolf howled, felt embarrassed when no one joined in, and stopped."

I'm not sure, definitely something to look up.

I definitely agree with you. I love the subtle humor in this book like when the spells are arguing in Rincewind's head.
"In the beginning was the word,' said a dry voice right behind him.
'It was the Egg,' corrected another voice. 'I distinctly remember. The Great Egg of the Universe. Slightly rubbery.'
'You're both wrong, in fact. I'm sure it was the primordial slime"

I'm sorry, but I found this priceless. As priceless as Cohen's dine chewers.

I really tried to get into The Light Fantastic and The Colour of Money, but they do not live up to the other Discworld books in my opinion. I am sorry if I make anyone mad, I just am giving my opinion. Mr Pratchett to me is one of the greats and when he died I felt bad.

That's why you have to read them first. I've been rereading Discworld in their printed order and I find that this helps. Each book gets more weight to it. The characters develop. The universe expands. Sure, quite a few books are stand alone, but in order you experience them as Terry did.

I agree with Rachel, the order of the books is important, itshows the evolution of the characters. If you read Interesting times before Light Fantastic you might not completely recognize Rincewind, or read "Night Watch" before "Guards Guards", there are very different Vines( although the same on the core)
Try to think those first 2 books as the first presentation of the discworld, a glimpse here and there of what will come :D.

Not good as the others , or simple not good ? Because as the first of the series they show how the writing evolved on the next books.
Unfortunately is hard to compare feelings, maybe because some, like myself, had those 2 books as start point for all discworld universe, and stay found in the memory like first played games or first lovers :) .
Nevertheless i wonder where some characters from the books went... the imaginary dragons reign, or Luck Goddess ( i always wondered when she would appear for Moist Von Lipwig :), or the tree nynphs, and others... i am really glad some came back on the following books... :)
Now I finally know how the librarian became an orangutan!
