Which book are you currently reading?

message 2: by Dana (new)

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) I am currently reading "Father Mars, Mother Earth." It was a free kindle book that I found and enjoy it a good bit, although it is a slower read than I would like. Next I am excited to read The Princess Diaries series! Wanted to read them back in high school(ages ago), but never got around to it!

Firelight! What is this book about? DO share :)

message 12: by Debarati (new)

Debarati | 10 comments Well..in retrospect, the movie is pretty similar. However there are certain nuances and character elaborations which can only be conveyed and enjoyed through a book. So yes, it is more than the movie for sure :)

I am not always doing my best, but I keep trying with a hectic work-life schedule. However, life goes on, one page at a time. Right now I am reading a book on Sahir Ludhianvi - The People's Poet by Akshay Manwani. Must say I never heard of Manwani, but so far its been a pleasure reading his work on Sahir. Take care and happy reading!

Araby (Dubliners) by James Joyce Hello friends,

I read Araby by James Joyce once again today. The journey of the narrator from childhood to adulthood has been expressed so wonderfully here.
Has anyone read any of his short stories from Dubliners (published in 1914)?

message 40: by Deepti (new)

Deepti | 14 comments I am reading Foreign correspondent: 50 years of reporting in South Asia. So far its amazing. These are articles by foreign correspondents on incidents in South Asia over the last 50 years. Includes Indian independence, Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi etc. One really funny article on how British maidens found it difficult to manage with Indian maids and domestic servants while they lived in India.

Well i guess many are familiar with Sahir Ludhianvi. He is an urdu poet from the sub-continent who rose to fame during the 1970s. He is remembered till today for his work in hindi films and outside, his romantic and his revolutionary poem. He had strong communist leanings and therefore, his poetry is full of working-class struggles. Last night I was bewitched after read his poem 'Taj mahal' where he basically questions it as a symbol of love (against a display of wealth). "Ek shahanshah ne daulat ka sahaara lekar Hum gareebon ki mohabbat ka udaya hai mazak" (An emperor has used his wealth To mock the love of us impoverished souls). Manwani has done a good job of exploring him and translating some of his best works. I guess for a lover of poetry and literature from sub-continent, this would be a great read!

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) Reached (Matched, #3) by Ally Condie

I want this series to be over....ugh! I am really sick of reading about character I do not care that much about, in a situation that is a hot mess! I cannot tell if the messy story line was on purpose, or if the writer was making it up as she went!! But, my campers at work are also reading it and they LOVE it when I read the same book as them so I am trying to power through.... This is for sure a book series I will NOT be reading again, and if they make the movie like they have been talking about I will for sure NOT be seeing it in theaters....not wasting my money on it at all!!!

I also got a free credit from Audible and so I'm also listening to Fight Club on the bus. I'm only on the second chapter and it's kinda slow right now, but I hope it picks up.
